The earliest known measuring device, the Cubit ruler, made building everything from roads to the Great Pyramids possible. It was the first portable, standardized measurement system for designing & building new things - the ‘original’ maker's tool!
Ancient tool > modern interpretation
Part tactile artifact, ALL function - Qbit is a modern interpretation of this 4,000+ year-old tool. Inspired by its original rod form, Qbit is precision-turned on a Swiss CNC lathe, with machined Standard or Metric scales and laser-etched graphics. Each comes with an adjustable marker for transferring measurements, making guide marks, measuring depth or simply remembering an important dimension on a trip to the hardware store.
Qbit is simple...
Qbit comes in metric or standard measurement systems, Stainless Steel or Brass, and both short, key chain-friendly (3" or 75 mm) or long (6" or 150 mm) desk/home/backpack/shop versions. Your choices for each can be make at the end of the project - mix/match however you would like!
Qbit has CNC machined measurement increments for for measuring from any side...
Rule your domain!
No matter what you do in your typical day, there's always something that requires a quick measurement. Qbit was created to be where you need it, to measure anything you come across and be as mobile as you are. Its pen-like size means it can be stored wherever a writing instrument goes - on your desk, in your shop or in your bag and can be hung or be tethered.
We use CNC lathe turning and laser etching processes often and we have several shops whom we trust to work with. Predicting shipping schedules is always difficult, though, without knowing exactly how many pieces we will ultimately be producing. We’re confident, though, that we will be able to BEGIN shipping in November.
So far, we have been very successful with our planning - the majority of our projects have begun the shipping process on time.
Our default worldwide shipping method will be by US Post. We've had a very high success rate with it on past projects, but please note that it will not include tracking past the US border. We're happy to help make alternative shipping arrangements with tracking at an additional cost if you require.
Made by our neighbors... literally!
Inspired by the local food movement, our name 'Onehundred' stands for the 100 mile circle around our studio where we seek out interesting, talented manufacturers, assuring that we can spend time getting to know them, their experience and capabilities. While we manufacture everything we design exclusively with our 100 mile 'neighbors', this time we will be using a shop we share a wall with!
In 16 projects, we've learned that our 'Made in our Neighborhood' philosophy improves quality and attention to detail, it also cuts the carbon footprint of our products by as much as 60%!
Risks and challenges
We have been working with our shops for several years now; we have a great relationship with them and they do quality work. Additionally, they have considerable capacity with multiple machines - always good to know in case this project requires larger than expected quantities! The biggest risk to beginning shipping on the stated delivery date, as always, is their production capacity or scheduling of other work at the time of our actual order.
For those of you who are new to our projects, we have a lot of product development, crowdfunding delivery experience and we communicate often!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
