New pledge level: 6 for the bar + 3 for the road!
We have added a NEW pledge level to give your Pucs added versatility! We're offering 6 in your choice of Maple or Walnut for tuning your drinks at home ...PLUS 3 in a cotton bag to take along on the road for taming blazing hot coffee. Several requests for this combo; thanks to Kickstarter for helping us respond!
Stretch goal: help us get to $80K!
Help get us to the 'magical' $80K mark we'll add a free set of Pucs 100% cork coasters! Environmentally smart and very cool looking - they complete the Pucs experience! We plan to have some fun with Pucs tag lines that have been popping up lately - we'll give you a chance to weigh in on the final design later.
How can you help make this awesome stretch goal happen?:
1) If you have a current pledge in place - upgrade! Change your pledge to the next level up.
2) If you have any friends or family who would enjoy Pucs - steer them to our project - pester them relentlessly if you have to!
3) If you know of a particularly effective way to drive traffic to our project, let us know or just make it happen!
Everyone has a favorite drink that's best when served at the RIGHT temperature... scotch, apple juice, mineral water, bourbon, OJ, chardonnay, coffee, tea... ice can handle the chilling job, but can leave behind unwanted chemicals, unplanned-for flavors, plus a lot of extra water your drink could do without.
Pucs = control...
What's in a tap water ice cube? Plenty of water ...plus a couple of tag-along chemicals - chlorine, dichloromethane and nitrates, to name a few. Filtering water helps, of course, but doesn’t remove everything. Pucs let you decide exactly how cool your drink gets, as well as what goes IN during the process. You chose exactly how to chill and dilute to suit your taste. Most experienced scotch drinkers would agree that a splash of pure branch water helps release the unique flavor signatures of that batch. Keep it pure!
Stainless steel is a gradual conductor, so a set of Pucs will chill steadily and evenly, and stay cool for quite a while. Pucs size gives you the flexibility to add 1, 2, 3 or more to ‘tune’ your chill to the desired temperature, as well as accommodate for different drink volumes. For some, one Puc will be enough, others will prefer three - you decide. The softened marshmellow-like shape of Pucs does an excellent job protecting your glassware, too.
...great with coffee, too!
Pucs are an excellent excess heat absorber as well. 2 Pucs will lower the temperature of a small coffee from 160°F to a much more manageable, drinkable 142°F in about a minute. Over time, all of that absorbed heat is returned to the coffee, extending the drinkable range for longer. Whether driving, taking public transport or on foot - take Pucs along, you’ll be glad you did.
SOLID Stainless Steel...
Pucs are precision machined from solid 304 stainless steel - the same material used in most medical, dental and kitchen tools. For that reason they are 100% inert, will not add or subtract from the flavor your drink in any way, will not absorb smells or flavors from your freezer, will not rust, oxidize, degrade, discolor, leak, pit, chip, flake, crack or dissolve. They're impervious to every drink imaginable, can also withstand tons of pressure and have a melting point of 1450° C! Pucs are completely dishwasher safe - either clean them with soap and water or give them a quick ride in the dishwasher, then send them to the freezer to re-chill.
Think of them as rechargeable ‘thermal batteries’ that last forever!
Pucs come in sets of 6 in either a solid Black Walnut or Maple case. The wood case is simply beautiful all by itself, and helps keep them organized and cool if they are out and about. We use FSC sourced woods throughout to assure responsible forestry practices; environmental thoughtfulness is baked into everything we do.
We have had a very high success rate using standard post as the default shipping method, though post only allows tracking to the US border - not beyond. At project close, we will offer UPS shipping for an additional charge. If selected, we will apply your international shipping charge and simply pass along the extra cost estimate for you. UPS gives extra degrees of confidence, security & tracking.
Onehundred is a collection of projects within a project: 100 products, designed & produced within 100 miles of our HQ, 100% supported by our crowd funding family - you! Created by my son, Calvin and I, Onehundred combines the amazing manufacturing talents found in our New England backyard with our enthusiastic family of supporters.
After years of designing & delivering products for big international brands like Apple, Microsoft & GM, it's intriguing to bring that broad, global experience down to a hyper-local level where we can work hands on, day-to-day, designing and creating a simple, sustainably-designed collection of beautiful objects.
Pucs is the very first of many projects to come - we hope you'll join us!

Risks and challenges
For this project, we’ve chosen some extremely qualified local craftsmen whom we've gotten to know and can easily visit on short notice to trouble shoot issues if they arise. We expect to spend plenty of time with them, hands-on, helping get all of our parts out on time and at the expected level of quality. We’ve also lined up additional producers for each part as back up, or if we need the extra capacity.
We LOVE to communicate, share, tell stories, post photos and give insider views of the entire process from idea through to shipping. We see Kickstarter projects as a community-building event - fun, engaging and informative for all. We'll even prod you after the project for photos of Pucs out in the world.
In short - your Kickstarter project support couldn't be in better hands!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
1" X .75" or 25mm X 18.8mm... almost exactly the size of a stack of 9 US Quarters.
True, Pucs are made of some tough stuff, but with a little common sense i.e. putting them in the glass first, sliding them down the side or dropping them in the center - but no slam dunks from across the room - they work just fine. The softened shape works well - we haven't damaged a glass yet!
No, that's what's great about stainless steel! A nice synopsis on stainless steel:
No, which is why stainless steel is the material of choice for dental, medical and cooking tools. A good thorough wash with soap and water before using and they are good to go.
Pucs are not for children under 12 due to Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines for children & choking hazards.
It depends, of course, but about an hour or so from room temperature.
We tried to pick a set of dimensions that had an easy to manage shape, but could also be used in multiples if desired. How many Pucs to chill to your liking will be up to you - 2 per about 6 oz. might be a good place to start... add one for a boost later. You'll need to experiment with them to get it to your liking.
1450° C, you probably shouldn't be concerned...
Pucs are similar in size to a standard ice cube or whiskey stone (1"/25mm) and combined with their weight and cylindrical shape (multiple flat spots), they live out the evening at the bottom of your glass to the very last drop.
Also, your lip acts as a natural 'bumper' for everything at the bottom glass making the short 2" trip - ice cubes, fruit, little paper umbrellas, a worm, fire. In fact, it's physically IMPOSSIBLE to expose your teeth sufficiently at any time (...I just know that you are making that face now!)
A little common sense and you will be more the fine, but of course they will ship with a long list of obligatory legal cautions: Not for children, keep them out of your mouth, don't eat them, don't throw them...
