A tool roll is one of the most versatile packing accessories for organizing a large amount of items in a very small space. It's super compact when rolled up for travel, yet perfectly organized when opened for use. Most are designed with the kitchen or workshop in mind, but Ledr tool rolls are designed for everyone, to use anywhere to carry anything!
Our original tool roll, the Ledr 7, was designed it to help manage a typical mobile life: to organize pens, charging cables and earphones - important items you needed to have with you, but don't always have a good place to keep them. While was a big hit, backers came up with ways to make it better...
One of the things that we LOVE most about crowdfunding: we have a 1,000+ group of diverse, enthusiastic product testers out there who put whatever we create to work: digital nomads, makers, mechanics, knitters & lock pickers (true!), busy moms - they regularly share their ideas, we listen! Here's what they suggested:
1 | MORE tools
"Being able to carry 7 items is good, but 9 would be better" ...we've added two wide slots for a total of 4, along side the original 5 narrow pen-sized slots. The wide slots are great for managing extra cables and larger diameter items like batteries, an Epipen or insulin pen, or even snacks!
2 | LONGER tools
"Some tools I carry are longer then an average pen" ...we added 1.25" (31.7mm) to the height for a total of 7.5" (190.5mm) to accommodate longer items, such as knitting needles, screw drivers and yes, lock picking tools! Ledr 9 is still a comfortable size to carry in a bag or backpack, but is now more versatile.
3 | HEAVIER tools
"Pens and cables are great, but sometimes I need to carry REAL tools" ...workshop-grade tools for car, bike and motorcycle maintenance; we know of at least one that rides in the bag of a Harley! We widened the elastic center web to 1.5" (38mm), which provides allot of extra holding power. When combined with the leather bottom pocket, it's capable of carrying a full range of (heavy) wrenches stored upright without them slipping out the bottom when fully packed.
An added benefit of the leather pocket: it protects pointed, sharp or even small diameter objects from damage.
We're launching the new Ledr 9 along with a re-launch the original Ledr 7 - both have their own unique advantages and offering them both assures a perfect color match in the leather. Ledr 7 has perfect hand carry/coat pocket/small bag proportions, with room for all of the essentials.
Ledr 9 offers more space in a larger package for heavier and longer items. Both are crafted from the same full-grain leather, stainless steel hardware and the same awesome craftsmanship.
What is a tool? To us, they're all of the essential things you need to have with you to help get you through your day! Take a look at what you typically carry with you; it's surprising just how many small things at takes to do what you need to do. No two collections are alike, everyone has their very own unique set.
One of the nice features of a leather tool roll is that it softens with use, develops a nice patina and molds to conform to your personal tool set over time, giving it a custom-fit, very personalized feel.
As with everything we create, we source all of our materials and hardware as close to our Saxonville, MA studio as possible. We use only full grain, US-sourced leather, local machine shops and an awesome, talented shop in New Bedford, MA to bring everything together. Local manufacturing makes it possible for us to spend more time hands-on, participating in the manufacturing process.
All of the hardware for Ledr 7 & 9 is stainless steel - we even CNC machine our own buttons. You'd be surprised what you can manufacture in your neighborhood!
We have been producing leather goods for over 5 years now, and are very familiar with both the production processes and the shops that produce them for us. Predicting shipping schedules is always difficult, though, without knowing exactly how many pieces we'll be producing - but we’re confident we will be able to BEGIN shipping in May:
So far, we have had very high success rate with our planning - our past 17 projects have all begun the shipping process on time. We have a system that seems to work!
Our default worldwide shipping method will be by US Post. We've had a high success rate with it on past projects, but please note that it will not include tracking beyond the US border.
We'd be happy to help make alternative shipping arrangements with tracking at an additional cost if you require.
Inspired in part by the local food movement, our name 'Onehundred' comes from the 100 mile radius around our studio where we seek out interesting, talented New England manufacturers, assuring that we can spend time getting to know them, their experience, machines and capabilities.
We've learned that our neighborhood-made philosophy improves quality, delivery speed and attention to detail. It also cuts the carbon footprint of our products by as much as 60%!
We've successfully shipped over 12,000 pledge rewards to 82 countries from past 17 campaigns - welcome, world!
Risks and challenges
We have been working with our shops for several years now; we have a great relationships with them and they do quality work. Additionally, they have considerable capacity with multiple machines - always good to know in case this project requires larger than expected quantities! The biggest risk to beginning shipping on the stated delivery date, as always, is their production capacity or scheduling of other work at the time of our actual order.
For those of you who are new to our projects, we have a lot of product development & crowdfunding delivery experience. We love working with our crowdfunding community and communicate often!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
