Rebranding and Moving Forward

Part of launching a successful product is learning how to roll with the punches. We were faced with an unexpected situation and we made the decision that was best for our backers. Despite our preemptive work prior to the campaign, we were contacted by another company claiming that our name was too similar to theirs.

While we love the name OLO, and we still maintain the rights to use it in the future, our goal is to focus our time and resources on production and our backers. So OLO is now ONO.

The website and our social media pages will be updated soon!

Moving Forward

Even when the unexpected happens, our primary goal is our backers. While our name may have changed, what has not changed is our dedication to getting you the best printer we possibly can. The final molds were put into production and are estimated to be completed by August 24, at which point we will be able to make 1200 ONO bodies a day. Once the bodies are complete, the components need to be installed and all the accessories packaged together and shipped. We are doing everything we can in order to make sure every part meets our standards and is ready as soon as possible.

Due to the ONO rebranding process, production for some of the parts has been delayed waiting for the final trademark approval. We are doing our best to lower this inconvenience, but at this point, we cannot guarantee the precise timeline we had planned. This is a priority for us and we will continue to keep you in the loop!

Pre-Production Printer

Now that this rebranding has been finalized and registered, we are happy to finally share pictures of the first pre-production ONO.

Phone Jacks

Whether your phone’s headphone jack is on the same side or the opposite side as the ONO USB port, it will work with the new ONO design. The headphone jack needs to be pointing in the same direction as the USB port, but phone power cables can come out of either side. For example, the iPhone 6 has the jack and port on the same side, while the Zenfone 2 has them on opposite sides. Both phones can easily be connected to ONO and powered at the same time.

There has been concern that new phone models, such as the iPhone 7, may not have standard headphone jacks. This is something that we are aware of, but cannot design around until the phones or their specs come out. It’s on our radar!

Thanks again for all your support. We look forward to delivering a great printer to you!

Hope stuff is still on track , dont wana have to wait for a redesign after apple removed the iPhone jack. Cant wait !!!

How about the app? When will it be ready? Especially Windows Phone one? I don't see any mention about Windows Phone on the new website

I love your pragmatism and sense of humour. Perhaps the new name will cause more problems, perhaps it won't. If a telco gets upset they will have to determine that your product could be confused with theirs, and that is doubtful. Mind you, that did not stop Apple from pursuing Woolworths in Australia over Woolie's use of a stylised apple in their new logo. Truthfully, your new logo is nicer than the old one and it reminds me a little of the Canadian National Railways logo, and of the classic 70s (1975) modernist NASA "worm" logo. The worm is better than the NASA "meatball" and the new ONO logo is better than the less connected OLO logo. It is nice that you are sticking with the palindrome theme in your branding, which is why it would be tricky trying to use other letters between the two "O"s. If you squint the ONO and apply NASA worm logic to the lettering, the ONO might look like "CND", and we could all do with a little more of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Perhaps in the CND there is a lesson for all of us: Live and Let Live, Invent Stuff and Move On, and whatever you do, don't sit on the side lines and be a Whiny Little B____h, even if the GOP says that it is fun and want those qualities in their "Hair Apparent".

    7. Danielo Rodriguez on August 21, 2016

I don't think ONO is a good name either, at least for your product. This is not criticism, it's because ONO is one of the biggest network operators here in spain. A simple Google search will reveal hundred of results about the company, which includes the and domains. So eve if they don't decide to take any action against you, you will lose a lot of visibility and some great domains. Just my two cents

    8. Ferruzoft on August 21, 2016

Thanks for update. What other models of smartphones can be used?

    9. Fritz Toch on August 20, 2016

I'm planning on using my wife's old iPhone 4 for this: it's supposed to have a particularly bright screen, I can dedicate it to long print times, and it wouldn't be a disaster if the tank leaks.

    10. David Montenegro on August 20, 2016

My congratulations to the marketing staff, they've made a briliant job: it looks very pro, very usefull, rocksolid and never seen before.

...but...talking about mere material things do you have any hint about shipment date? probably it's among the informations bakers care the most.

We belive in you and obviously a rebrand is an info that bakers should receive but please give us maccheroni with tomato sauce, not just sauce ;)
      Thank you so much ;)

ONO is a BIG (Vodafone owned) internet provider
Are you sure you wont face similar issues in a near future?

    12. Steve John Petrakis on August 20, 2016

awesome to get an update but wondering when the estimated shipping date will be?

I personally would prefer a good product vs. rush to production. Your dedication inspiring and appreciated. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to a really cool ONO. When it comes is not as important as it bring really cool!

Ono is an internet supplier here in Spain, now property of Vodafone. Make sure that will not bring further problems with trademarks as it is not a small company...

    20. Lothar on August 19, 2016

I believe on a worldwide lvel there will be always problems with 3letter words, since they are all used.
maybe QLQ is unused or OQO.

thanks for the preproduction photos! been wanting to see those for a long time. Not so big on the name, reminds me of "oh no!" like something has gone wrong. But I'll deal. the changes made to the device all make a lot of sense and there are a lot of people who are looking forward to seeing this work here at the office.

You could go with OIO, capital "i". (eye, it keeps making my lower case into a capital!) I've done that in WoW to get a lower case L look to a name.

And Anthony... no more jokes about Beatles and OnO.. so sad you so old. :p Wait... I remember that Beatles thing... I take it back. You are not old. lol

Considering all the changes you've made since you first started, it's only fitting the name change as well. Just get them packaged and shipped, no matter what they are called, we still want them!!

As Spencer noted earlier, "Ono" means "delicious" in Hawaiian, but not only that, it is their name for the fish known as "wahoo" or "peto," and they are quite delicious.

How has the delay impacted the timeline? When do you think any units will be ready to ship?

    26. Tanausú Hernández on August 19, 2016

Well, ONO is also a telecommunications brand owned by Vodafone in Spain. I fear you might encounter the same issue in the future with them :(

"There has been concern that new phone models, such as the iPhone 7, may not have standard headphone jacks. This is something that we are aware of, but cannot design around until the phones or their specs come out. It’s on our radar!"

Mmmmh, I propost having two USB ports on the ONO, bypassing this phone jack thing completely and at the same time powering/loading the phone AND the ONO. The control would have run through USB instead of phone sound. While this may have required redesign in software, it would have been quite future proof.

Phone Charger -> [OLO's own USB cable] -> OLO -> [Phone's USB cable] -> Phone
OR (for the neurotics among us)
      Phone Charger -> PowerBank -> [OLO's own USB cable] -> OLO -> [Phone's USB cable] -> Phone

But apparently you made other decisions. I am not convinced of your results. They might match your original offer, but missed the chance of improving in the given time frame.

Looking forward to release. Hoping the ONO isn't a prophecy, Oh No! It would be so disappointing to not get this great new product. My grandson is looking forward to picking the first printing item! Much luck!

    34. Lord Lethris on August 19, 2016

I actually love the new logo :)

However, I'm now sadly waiting for that Viral Videos twonk to start making comments about "Oh No.!"

    35. Stewart Lawrence III on August 19, 2016

If a new iPhone is released without a headphone jack, I am aware of the Lightning to 30-Pin Dock adapter ( and then a 30-Pin to audio and USB cable ( Not elegent, but it's possible provided the new iPhone uses the Lightning connector.

Otherwise, I'm really happy to see your hard work nearly realized. Good job!

    36. Edward Cui on August 19, 2016

Really sounds like "oh no". How about "ojo" ( eye in Spanish)?

    37. Chris Brown on August 19, 2016

There will, without a doubt, be an adapter released for the iphone 7, first party or otherwise. I wouldn't waste too many cycles worrying about something that will be resolved with a (hopefully) included piece of hardware.

ONO is a great name, shame you had to wast good creative time on the name :(

I'm sure there are many things named OLO but there is only 1 ONO ;)

    42. Wing Wong on August 19, 2016

      Oh No! (lol) Oh well.

So dovetailing from the Iphone7 no headphone jack concern, is the communication protocol for the ONO printer going to be released so that folks can interface with it themselves?

And if other trademark issues arise, any chance we can get the printer unbranded? I mean, from a company aspect, it's important, but the branding issues isn't something that has impact on the actual functionality of the printer itself.

If it helps 'Ono' means delicious in Hawaiian. Which I think fits. :)

    45. Reveille45 on August 19, 2016

I'm currently using the moto Z force and it has no headphone jack, just a USB C port. Haven't seen anyway to split this for power and headphones at the same time. That being said i also have several other phones that will work with the printer. Just putting it out there that a major phone without a headphone jack already exists.
