They have to ship preorders first because of laws so if they take preorders in june 22nd they have to fulfill them before 90days or the authorization expires.
I am excited to see the final product. I am an experienced 3d printer, having both FDM and SLA machines, I use for our charity that prints prosthetic hands for kids. I am hoping to use some of the ono's in the field for small pin parts during fitting sessions. If you need any more assistance with alpha or beta testing I would be happy to help. Here is our charity site - http://www.apertamanus.org
@sandra awe only about 10% of their campaign turned out to happen. 5% = Backed and 5% first cellphone 3d printer
10% which we the backers made it happen.
They did not:
Assemble in America
Wireless with battery power
Ship on time
Care about backers
Transparent
support windows phones
7 parts thats easily mass produced manufactured
Listen to feedback from backers
Took many precaution
Show their mission, team, experience in anything
I had a bad feeling: once I'll receive the ONO it will be completely different and obsolete than the innovative product that I've baked more than a year ago. Too many updates with too many changes. Disappointed!!!
@CoryZerwas - They've probably abandoned Windows phone. Which is a shame. If they've built their app with Xamarin then they could target the platform and compile appropriately. If they don't bother, well... There may be an alternative... ;)
People saying the "device is useless without the app" and "ship the device without the app being ready".
I understand frustration and delays, but not sure mutually exclusive demands are really beneficial to anyone.
My biggest worry was, because we'd heard nothing about the app until recently, that the app was a later project to be started on. Now it's already on 2nd alpha.
Its starting to seem more and more that ONO's actual "problem" is merely marketing and outreach, and not technological and production capability. Things we backers felt were not being addressed, *were* being worked on but not communicated.
Tho to be fair it looks like that "issue" is being resolved as well.
Makes me wonder about the state of the app for iOS and WinPhone as being farther along but just not being communicated. Not sure how user testing for Apple is gonna work though as each version needs to be approved by iTunes, and not sure Cupertino will allow alpha testing to be distributed. Is a jailbroken iPhone, most likely with a custom loaded OS, going to provide a proper testing environment? Don't wanna know how UAT is gonna work there.
Just went through the second round of Alpha testing. (Quick turn around ONO!) The app seems to be working very well as of now. There are only a few things that need addressing. I am confident that the app will be ready by the time UL certifies the boards. This is actually what the light at the end of the tunnel looks like. Now...lets see what the printer can do.
@Alastair Low, I'm confused what the issue is. The printer (if it ever ships) can print with the phone that's in your pocket. How did you expect it to work without turning off notifications? I'm not familiar with how Android has it set up but the on the iPhone there is a master setting to mute notifications + airplane mode pretty much takes care of the rest.
@CeKWg i already have a few spare phones, and the quality of print relys on the screen resolution , but it was advertised to be usable with your main phone, ie youv already got what you need in your pocket.
I got the alpha testing app, seems sleek but keep hitting a problem when i try to print. It has a checklist of tings to disable, the last one is notifications and i cant find a quick way to dissable them all. dont wana turn everything off manualy coz iv got loads of aps and still wana be able to use the phone afterwords with minimal effort. Any help apreaceated. I also have concerns about amount of storage and reliance on the cloud service, seems weird the app uses the cloud then tells you to turn off the internet before printing, i understand its becse you dont want things on screen messing up printes but feels weird and no ability to upload models from the app also seems a bit weird.
I did see them and talk to them at the Maker fair recently and they do seem to be real. I think they ran into a number of unexpected issues and just got majorly delayed, but I think it will get finished and delivered.
Brief summary: app is still under development (alpha stage), ono is still waiting for the green light for a kind of certification they need to start mass build and ship. No ETA still, lots of hopes for the end of June (where they start to elaborate the pre orders)
I have not received my printer yet. Have you shipped to the US? I am backer number 13,175. Please confirm when I will receive the printer for which I have already paid. Thank you very much.
If we were to crack open a Formlabs, I highly doubt their PCB is UL certified. Why would you even want high voltage hitting your PCB??? That sounds like a bunch of blown PCBs, and dead product returns coming back to you.
Just source (or have your factory source) a UL listed supply and you're good. There are literally thousands of power supplies, from hundreds of factories, to chose from that are already UL listed. You can even OEM the power unit and just re-submit it to UL under your name. It takes all of about 3 weeks, tops, to get it back. If it's already UL approved and you're just re-listing, you can proceed to production because there's no real question about approval.
I would invite OLO to give us an explanation here. If they're actually getting a UL listing on their PCB, just shoot us the UL spec # they're testing to and the listing number once it's listed. It's easy to verify. Hell, if they're getting a UL listing on their board, they'll list that number on the product itself and the packaging. If they're doing all of this, show us...then I can shut up and go back to grumbling about other quasi-legitimate delays.
@Smart.E Smartphone Light - That is a fair point. Generally speaking the only time UL is interested in your PCB is when you have high voltage (mains voltage) going through it. Which is why most 3v-12v devices' power supplies are UL listed but not the device itself.
Maybe because it also calibrates a mechanical component?
Another project run by amateurs. At some point, it will become obvious to us all that unless the team includes someone with mass production experience, the project will either fail or take forever to produce. Even if it ships, it's clear this printer is half-baked. At some point the founders realize they can say "UL testing" and it will buy them another month each time they say it. I've launched hundreds of projects and I've never had UL test a PDB board. Power supplies, yes. I've sourced components that needed UL certs, yes. I get UL on all TV mounts I import. Printed boards, never. I'm not saying this is completely BS, but it sounds a bit fishy to this frequently-in-Shenzhen consumer products manager. I imported a batch of Maylan 3D printers last fall and the PCB boards weren't UL certified. The power supply was, for sure...but I'm not even sure what UL would be testing for on a PCB. I mean, you can get 3rd party labs to test just about anything (BV, Intertek, etc.), but it doesn't mean it's needed, unless you're just trying to stall for some reason.
Whatevs. I've long since mentally kissed this money goodbye.
@Gerwin - You can still update your address in your backerkit account. If you wish to contact ONO you are best served by sending them an email rather than comment here.
They have never commented here and I expect they will continue that.
