From a very fundamental point of view, you need one motor for one axis of space. Since we live in a 3-dimensional world, the Üo needs three axes. A simple way of explanation is this: one motor for going forward/backward, one motor for sideways left/right, and one motor for turning around the yaw axis (around yourself). Üo's motors' axes are basically similarly aligned, but not aiming into these three directions.
