About

My name is Issy Brazier-Jones and my name is Olivia Cura and we desperately need your help.

We all know with cuts to funding in the creative arts it is meticulously hard to get started with any project. This project of ours, however, goes a lot deeper with a strong emotional urge behind it, especially in the current climate. We are actively trying to turn a traumatic experience into something positive and politically liberating if it gets out into the world.

We spent three years enduring the gruelling, challenging training at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. We have had always had high hopes of cracking the notoriously tough industry, with many hurdles to try and breakthrough. From being young, unknown and fresh faced.. to simply being women.

After many knock backs and disheartening experiences here in the murky waters of the arts world in London we decided that we both deserved to get out of here and take all of our hard work, drive and everything we have learnt to Los Angeles. We were craving some kind of new venture and wanted gain some inspiration after feeling consistently downbeat. Our personal lives had unravelled in this time trying to make it in London and everything was gearing up to LA to hopefully be some kind of liberator.

31 hours after leaving the UK to the City of Angels we returned two very different human beings. Issy was swallowed up by the American Immigration system only to be spat back out again. She spent 24 hours incarcerated with no food, water or sleep. She was interrogated, searched, locked up and treated like a genuine criminal. A random targeted crackdown and they were searching for any reason to not let her in... because, why not!?

The officers just happened to be large, armed, power tripping men, enjoying the process of interrogation and humiliation far too much. Issy was then deported and blacklisted from the USA for 10 years. In this short amount of time, both of our hopes, dreams and self esteem were shattered and we felt back to square one, only worse. We had both quit our jobs and flipped our lives upside down for this trip.

Even worse was the hidden abuse from the US immigration system that we felt exposed to.

Issy suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of her treatment. After recovering from flashbacks, sleepless nights and crippling anxiety she has courageously and powerfully turned the events into a play. The detail is so accurate it's disturbing.

With the rise in US airport arrests, crackdowns on migrants, and in our experience, two young wide eyed girls hoping to innocently indulge in the the culture of their country we feel some exposure is necessary. Because no matter who you are, what you look like, where you come from, no one deserves their basic human rights to be so heinously stripped away.

We have crafted the script but none of this is possible without any funding.

Your help is vital.

Funding would cover set, lighting, sound, actor, director and theatre venue etc... Because we aim to put on a bloody good show!

We believe open discussions, debates and story telling are at the centre of holding our communities together more so then ever. To confront hidden wrong doings and put them out into the mainstream is so instrumental in creating change and we want to be a part of that. This artistic endeavour of ours has been our only light through such adversity and we feel this is definitely a cause worthy of investment.

We also aim to use this as a platform to launch further projects under our company oi_projects.

Any recommendations of people who would like to get involved from theatre practitioners to anyone sharing a similar story with us please get in touch.

Thank you for taking the time out to read this and we thank you in advance for any support given... Every little helps :)

Big love,

Issy and Olivia
