The goal of this Kickstarter is to bring to life some of my favorite smart guys (and girls) as jeweler quality enamel pins and bring attention to the important role STEM subjects play in all of our lives. I've been an artist and designer for years, but science is a very close second place in my heart. I've never made pins before and I really want to try this process, and give all you lovely people some kick-ass pins that are sure to start an intelligent conversation. If this Kickstarter goes well, my plan is to continue the POP Science series.
These super cool hard enamel pins are ready to take part in all your out of this world adventures while pinned to your coat, bag, scarf, or hat! All the pins are a massive 1.5" at the widest part with a polished metal lining, sooooooo shiny! Each pin comes with a butterfly clutch backing to hold it's pretty little head into place and comes attached to a cute printed card inside a poly protective bag that makes for a fantastic presentation. The pins are HARD enamel pins (not the cheap soft enamel) and are jeweler quality! They are smooth, shiny and incredibly durable (just like Stephen Hawking!).
I recommend picking up a couple for your star students or as a nice thank you gift for your amazing science teachers or coworkers.
The Neil DeGrasse-Tyson Enamel Pin was the starter pin, but I spoke to the manufacturer and they informed me that what was driving the price up on these is that I designed them with different backer cards. SO, I redesigned the backer card so that it would work with all the pins and eliminated the rewards that had posters or stickers since no one seemed to want them. Now, that means that I can afford to order ALL six designs if I make the goal! You will now be able to choose any pin or combination of pins you like!
Since I first started creating this Kickstarter, the science world lost an incredible lady who has made some major contributions to the field of astronomy and getting more women into STEM. So in memory of Mrs. Vera Rubin, I created a memorial pin in VERY limited supply (#MAKE100 ONLY, now and forever) available to those who pledge at the "Dark Matter" Level. The Vera Rubin pin is the only one in Black Nickle and she will have starry glitter details in her hair. If you back at the "Dark Matter" I will also give you a Carl Sagan to round out your collection, now that I found out I can lower my cost.
Risks and challenges
The BIGGEST challenge I have is getting the word out about this Kickstarter!
I can't make the goal if nobody knows this exists and if nobody pledges. This is a challenge that YOU, the backer can have a lot of impact on.
I'm only one person and I know I can't do this without your help. So, PLEASE share the link with people you know who will love these pins as much as you, and then share it again, and again, and you and I can make this collection a reality!
I don't foresee any major challenges, it's a pretty straightforward project without too many moving pieces. I've calculated the timing, production, and shipping costs and added a little bit extra of everything just in the case something does come up.
The delivery date is set to March. You should expect to receive your pin at the END of March. It takes 14 days for me to receive the funding from Kickstarter should I make the goal + time for the orders to be processed (15days), and then time for me to package with care & ship it all out to you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
