About this project
We are Ogden Made
Ogden, Utah is a place full of tradition, history and a lot of grit. We've created a line of versatile, rugged bags inspired by our hometown and made in America.
Who We Are and How We Got Here
We know bags. Our team has been making industry-leading backpacks and shoulder bags for the photographic industry for years. Our existing products are designed, tested and sold from our HQ in Ogden, Utah, and sewn in Vietnam.
Nearly six months ago, we started sketching some new bags just for us, based on things we wanted in our everyday lives. We discovered creating these bags in our own sewing room was fun, and we love being able to touch and feel the process from inspiration to execution. Our bags are made one at a time and imbued with our passion for functional, clean designs. This made us think...
We looked around our community and saw an opportunity - to create local jobs and products to help shape the future of Ogden. We took an empty room, filled it with a few state-of-the-art sewing machines and found talented Ogden locals with a passion for well-crafted goods. We codenamed the project 'Ogden Made™'.
Awesome bags Made in Ogden, USA. Each one signed and dated by the person who made it. We've done the hard part by investing in equipment and finding talented craftspeople. Now we need your support to make Ogden Made a reality! We are turning to Kickstarter to fund the first run of production of our bags.
Ogden's history, culture, people and buildings continually inspire us. Ogden is a town with hidden prohibition-era speakeasies, magnificent art deco buildings contrasted against rugged mountains, and a can-do spirit when faced with long odds. That's our inspiration. So when we began naming our products, we naturally looked to that tradition to lead the way.
The Junction City™ Messenger
Our signature bag carries Ogden's nickname, the Junction City. Ogden is at the crossroads of the US rail system - we even have a golden spike to prove it. There was an old saying that to get anywhere you had to go to Ogden first. Reflecting our city's rugged and plainspoken lifestyle, the Junction City Messenger is made from equally durable and rugged CORDURA® 1000D fabric to ensure it stands up to your toughest challenges.
The Junction City is a messenger with grit and grace. Each bag is carefully handcrafted with tried and trusted CORDURA® and/or our custom X-Pac™ ripstop fabric and an obsessive amount of pride. To work, to play, or to the other side of the globe, the Junction City will carry your essentials with unpretentious style.

The Transient™ Tablet & Laptop Sleeves
Ogden is as much about the folks who traveled through as those who stayed and called it home. Throughout WWII, soldiers came to Ogden on their way to training, deployment and home. And as a result, a good portion of Ogden's history and vitality came from those just passing through - the transients.
If you are anything like us, your technology travels with you for both work and fun. We designed our Transient Tablet and Laptop Sleeves to look equally comfortable at the office on Monday morning as they are all weekend in the mountains. Transients are designed to protect your technology from the everyday bumps and scrapes without being complicated or pretentious.
- Exterior Construction: Tough & protective X-Pac™ laminated fabric and 1000D CORDURA®
- Interior Lining: Soft & cushioned custom-made quilting (50D soft nylon facing with a 6 oz polyester fill backing)
- Strategically placed and hidden velcro closure holds your technology in place
- Sized to fit: iPad Mini®, iPad 2®, iPad Air™, 11” MacBook Air®, 13” MacBook Air, 13” MacBook Pro® or 15” MacBook Pro
The Boxcar™ Dopp Kit
The Boxcar is inspired by the Dopp kit, a fixture of first class train travel and eventually issued to every GI coming through Ogden in WWII. Almost 100 years ago, Charles Doppelt was somewhere in a bathroom fumbling for a place to store his straight razor and horsehair brush. In 1919 he introduced the Dopp kit into the world and things have never been the same. We’d like to think Mr. Doppelt would be pleased with our rendition of his ingenious product.
Shaped like a Union Pacific boxcar and just as roomy, the Boxcar Dopp Kit holds your shaving kit or other stuff like power blocks and cables just as easily.
- Shaving cream and toothpaste-proof X-Pac laminated fabric bottom
- 1000D CORDURA® fabric top

- Webbing handle for hanging or carrying
- External Dimensions: 8 1/2” l X 4 1/4”w X 2 3/4” h
The Divide™ Accessory Cases
Ogden is nestled on the western side of the Wasatch Mountains. The North Ogden Divide is a beautiful mountain pass with amazing views of the Great Salt Lake, Ogden and northern Utah. We named our accessory pouches in honor of this gorgeous pass over the mountains.
Designed to carry all the flotsam that comes with your daily life, the Divide Series of cases come in three sizes and two styles. The Twisted Divide is a pencil case with a quirk that allows it to lay flat when full and expand when you open it to see all the goodies it carries. Both of the Flat Divide cases hold every little thing for your day's adventures - pens, ear buds and power cords all tucked away and tidy. They all fit a standard Apple power block and are constructed with our custom X-Pac™, 1000D CORDURA® accents and a water-resistant YKK zipper.
- Tough as nails 1000D CORDURA® and custom X-Pac™ construction
- Water-resistant YKK zippers
- Each are 8 1/2” wide in varying lengths from 4” to 8”.
We've put together a palette of CORDURA® colors we love: Beehive Yellow, Mandarin Orange, Firehouse Red, Sky Blue, Beach Sand and Moonlight Silver (yeah, we like fancy names for colors). Plus our custom X-Pac™ comes in Black. All the colors are available in all our products.
For the Junction City Messengers we pair an exterior color with a contrasting bright interior so you can see what is in bottom of your bag. You may choose your favorite colors for any of our rewards. We have several favorite color combinations for the Junction City Messengers:
- Silver exterior with Red or Sky Blue interior and accents
- Sand exterior with Orange or Sky Blue interior and accents
- X-Pac™ Black exterior with Sand, Silver or Blue interior and accents
Sketch, Sew, Refine, Design Complete
We started with an idea that we could build a bag for ourselves that was simple and elegant, yet tough. Sketches filled our notebooks. Our office white board was written on, erased and written on again and again. All the while we were creating bags in the sewing room.
The first bag from our sewing room was olive drab green and pretty rough. But it was a starting point. From there we spent the next six months sewing prototypes and arguing over details like zipper direction and buckle selection. We asked our friends to test our prototypes and adjusted the pocket configuration and strap style in response to their feedback. We found that paper prototypes helped us check the size, shape and concept of our bags. And then we got back to sewing.
As our messenger bag came together we realized several things: shortcuts are for nincompoops and don't result in inspired design. Quality construction takes patience and skill. So we ditched the idea of binding the interior lining to the exterior of the bag in favor of sewing the two together, laboriously turning them inside out and letting the interior and exterior become their own finished edges with a color matched top stitch. It's definitely not easier, but it's simply better. We then created our own custom CORDURA® binding for any exposed edges like pockets. Does this take longer and cost more? Sure thing, but it results in a clean functional design that we love.
Our accessory cases and sleeves took the same path as the development of our messenger bags. We started with what we wanted to carry in each accessory and translated that into sewn prototypes that were tested and refined, argued over and sized up and sized down until we got it right.
We knew the materials had to be right. Again, no shortcuts. This meant working with our suppliers to develop a new material as well as relying on materials that have proven themselves over time. Costs have never been the driving force behind our material choices. That would be like serving ramen on a yacht. We're not about that.
We chose a fabric from CORDURA® that's tough as nails and looks and handles well. Not only does CORDURA® 1000D have decades of real world proven durability but is also made and sourced in America. We then worked with one of our favorite American mills to produce a custom version of our favorite fabric, X-Pac™. Our X-Pac™ RS has a ripstop facing that resists tears and specialized PU coating that is water-resistant with a taffeta lining for beauty and durability. Bottom line, it's awesome.
Choose Your Reward
Our in-house sewing production facility will handle all bag and accessory production and fulfillment for this Kickstarter project and beyond. We've found talented craftspeople who have been intimately involved in the prototyping phase of our project so they know how to sew each one of the products we make.
We have accumulated an inventory of fabric and the other necessary materials to produce a limited amount of our product. In addition, we have established relationships with several suppliers so that we can easily replenish fabric and other material inventory as needed. All patterns are made and final materials have been selected and sourced.
As soon as our Kickstarter project funds we will begin production on all Early Bird Specials. We have specifically limited the number of Early Bird Specials to what our current capacity can produce and ship within a few days. All other rewards will be placed on our production calendar for completion, quality control and shipment by the end of February. Should this project blow up, we have cultivated contacts with reliable contractors with whom we have worked before who will provide back up sewing production capabilities.
Risks and challenges
We have reached deep in to our pockets and collected enough change to invest in the equipment and talented passionate craftspeople necessary to start this project. Now we are turning to Kickstarter to fund the first run of production of our bags. If this Kickstarter takes off far beyond what we anticipate, there may be some delays in production until we can either catch up with demand using existing production, or increase our equipment and personnel allocation. So that being said, the more successful this campaign is, the more jobs you help us create. We only ask that if that be the case, you be patient with us as we try to increase our production capabilities to get orders out as fast as we can.
Additional risks and challenges may include turnaround times by our suppliers. We have worked closely with our primary vendors to ensure adequate raw goods supply based on our projections. If this Kickstarter exceeds our projections, there is an outside possibility of delays in delivery of the materials as many our custom produced to our specifications specifically for this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
