College offers the opportunities and resources to build a foundation for the future. People enter the first year of college with an open mind to learn new ideas and meet different people. However, as the semesters progress, students often become too comfortable with their routine of class, work, and socializing with the same circle of friends. It seems that they often limit their personal growth and seldom think outside the box in order to experience new things.
While many don’t recognize the issue early on, in later years it leads to boredom or dissatisfaction that may be hard to remedy. We get stuck trying to find out who we are, what we want to do and what will make us successful, all at the same time. So a few of us began to wonder…
Are the ways in which we are spending our time in our weekly routine truly getting us to where we want to be in the future?
Why do we believe that doing only a specific and finite amount of work is going to create a fulfilling life for ourselves?
THA Road Trip
In order to answer these questions, to find a way to inspire and motivate young adults, we’re embarking on a journey of discovery. This trip will allow us to speak with a wide variety of individuals in a very short amount of time. We'll engage with unique people who are, in our opinion, living "Off THA Couch." We’ll also gain insight from leading psychology researchers on how people can make changes that ultimately lead to a more productive and fulfilled life.
The many inspirational stories from our trip, along with our personal experiences in gathering them, will be transformed into a captivating visual experience. We hope college students, and others alike, will be inspired to get Off THA Couch and discover what it is that they are truly passionate about.
Off THA Couch (OTC) is a organization created by two ambitious Georgia State University Students. The phrase “Off THA Couch” is a metaphor for reaching beyond the daily routine that people seem to blindly accept. THA stands for Touching Higher Atmospheres, a mindset that exemplifies commitment, willingness, and drive to simply do more than what is expected. It is our goal to inspire and motivate individuals, in addition to providing tools and resources, to adopt this new way of living by getting off the couch and pursuing new passions.
We're 6 college students, all 21 and under, with a mission for change.
Why We Need Your Support
We began this project several months ago collecting info at the local level in and around our hometown of Atlanta. Your support will help us expand the number of interviews and experiences across a wider population to provide a better story.
The team has already spent an extensive amount of time and money on this project. Your assistance will help expand the reach of this research and help the film reach its full potential by allowing us to employ the proper equipment and post-production resources.
$2,000 - Video equipment
$6,000- Post-production costs (editing, sound, colorist), travel expenses
$2,000 - Publishing, PR, Kickstarter rewards, and distribution
While our goal will provide enough to fund this project, more funds means more production value, more interviews, and an increased ability to spread our message. THA Future We have HUGE plans for OTC!!! Upon completion of this project, we’ll start building our official website, which will provide a rich, interactive user experience. We’ll provide people with the necessary tools and resources to kick-start their journey in getting Off THA Couch and ultimately enjoying a more productive and fulfilled life.
What gets you Off THA Couch?
Risks and challenges
We've planned out the entire trip and are very excited about taking on this project, however, some risks and challenges could occur. It will take some time to finish the project as we are working with the proper postproduction people. Other rewards such as the shirts, books and such will take time to get produced and shipped, but we hope to have it all finished on time. We feel very confident in getting this project finished on time and we'll let backers know of any delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
