About this project
Valiant is a multiplayer medieval combat game, exclusively for virtual reality. It features horse-based mounted combat, where players can charge into battle alongside friends, using weapons such as lances, bows, swords, javelins, crossbows and maces.
- Developed exclusively for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive
- Dedicated servers with eight versus eight online team battles
- Three unique classes: Lancer, Archer and Slayer
- 3D HRTF positional audio for an amazing audio experience
- Full ingame positional VoIP, to strategize with teammates or demoralize opponents
- VR sweet spot - The medieval combat in Valiant happens right in front of your face, with intense medieval weapons at fast speeds, such as a knight hitting you in the face with a lance. Arrows flying past your head are also wicked in VR, especially with our 3D HRTF positional audio.
- Comfortable - There are numerous comfort modes you can use, as well as a virtual helmet around your vision. This helmet increases both comfort and immersion: see the helmet, feel the weight of your headset, and enjoy the added immersion as your brain is tricked into thinking you're actually wearing the medieval helmet.
- Social presence - look over to your friend riding by your side and watch them glance back at you. Full head tracking and close proximity teamwork makes you feel like your friend is right there alongside you, so real you could almost reach out and touch them.
We released a free alpha version of Valiant onto Oculus Share over one year ago. The playable alpha version has remained one of the highest rated games on Oculus share for the last 12 months, with over 12,000 downloads.
During that time, we have added a lot of your feedback into Valiant, such as user accounts, stats, leaderboards, computer AI and unlocks.
However, with new consumer headsets about to hit the market, now is the time to make Valiant epic, ready for its official release. With the support of the Kickstarter community, we’ll be able to further enhance our game by creating additional maps, forging new weapons & armour, and crafting exciting new gameplay modes like Capture the Flag and King of the Hill.

We're an independent VR game studio based in Australia, comprised of:
Christopher Parkin: We have been playing online PC games since we were young. Some of our best memories are from playing with our friends in various games such as Ultima Online, Counter Strike and Battlefield, to name a few.
When we first tried a VR headset, we realized this technology was going to change gaming, eventually resulting in amazing experiences that would far surpass those great online experiences that we had so many fond memories of.
Liam and I quit our corporate jobs and formed Offpeak Games, with help from long term friend, Andrew. It was a very scary thing to do, going against the advice of almost everyone we knew, our friends, family and colleagues and quitting our high paying jobs to follow our passion. However, 18 months on, we are extremely glad we made that choice, as now we get to spend every day working on what we love and we've been able to employ our friends part-time to make Valiant as good as it can be.
Risks and challenges
Executing on an idea does come with risks. We believe the main risks with any project are: running over budget, running behind schedule, or not meeting the expected level of quality for the final product.
For the budget risk: we have already invested thousands of unpaid hours into this project. Running out of money will not mean we will disappear - we'll be seeing this project through to completion, no matter what arises.
For the schedule risk: We have had Valiant available to the public for the last 12 months. During that time, we have always supported each new Oculus runtime from day 1 of its release. We always have something ready - as we have the Valiant alpha live now, we will always be able to release Valiant for both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on day 1 launch. The main aim of this Kickstarter through is to raise the quality of that day 1 release.
For the quality risk: We have worked on this project for over a year - we are aware of all the tools and methods that we'll need for the final polished release. We have had this project running smoothly in Unity 5 since June 2015 and we always keep up to date with patches. We have already researched the packages and assets we want to buy, to deliver an amazing polished project.
