A next gen dive computer — with built-in wireless buddy communication!
For scuba divers, communication under the surface is a challenge. Hand signals work well, but they’re hampered by one obvious caveat: the signals rely on divers looking at each other. But improving underwater communication is hard and radio waves used for communications on land fade out instantly under water.
Over the past year, Oceans' team of engineers and product designers have been working to create the next gen dive computer. In addition to high-end features like a retina class color display, 3-axis digital compass, haptic feedback and wireless charging, we’re adding a new dimension to recreational dive computers — buddy communication.
We call it the “Oceans S1 Supersonic”, and we believe it’s amazing! But scroll down to see the working prototype for yourself, and what the reviews and our test pilots says.
Using soundless ultrasonic waves, the S1 allow divers to summon their buddies, dive master or instructor with a tap of a button. Then, the S1 sends a ping message to each paired dive computer, and shows a notification on the display with the name of the diver looking for attention.
We’ve been testing the Oceans S1 Supersonic extensively during fall and winter, and it's ping feature is truly addictive! After diving with the S1, you will never again want to miss out on the possibility to summon your buddy when needed.
Stretch goals and colorways!
We love the Oceans Yellow, but to celebrate reaching 100% of our campaign goal, we’re adding stretch goals with more colorways. When the campaign reaches SEK 400K (~$42K) in funding you can select the “Abysmal Black" S1, and at SEK 500K (~$54K) the Pantone color of the year — “Living Coral" — will also be unlocked!
If one or both of the stretch goals are unlocked, we will send out surveys where you can select the color of your choice before shipping.
The Oceans S1 Supersonic comes loaded with tech you’ll only see in hi-end devices selling for $1000 or more. The unrivalled kickstarter price point — combined with S1’s unique ultrasound communication feature, Oceans' award-winning user experience and product design, and seamless connection to the Oceans app for logbook syncing — makes the S1 a game changer in dive computers.
The S1 connects via Bluetooth to the Oceans app (Available free to iOS and Android) to import your dives into your digital logbook. In the app, you can add buddies, observations and photos, and share it with friends and family.

Where we’re at.
Over the last couple of months, we’ve been testing the S1 prototypes in the ice cold waters of Stockholm archipelago, Sweden. And the results are beyond our expectations. It works just like we first imagined it, and the ping feature is a true game changer.
In the video below you can see how the S1 prototype looks underwater in dive simulation mode with a demonstration of the buddy ping communication feature.
The biggest obstacles and challenges have been cleared and we are ready to go into final design and production. Now, we need your help to put the device into production and finish software development for integration into the Oceans app.
A word from one of our test pilots.
The reward comes in two variations: a single Oceans S1 Supersonic (with 2 early bird specials) and a buddy pack of two units at a limited Kickstarter price.
The box contains the Oceans S1 Supersonic dive computer, a wrist band and a quick start guide. The Oceans app can be downloaded for free at oceans.io.
When your battery is running low, the S1 charges wirelessly using any Qi standard charger. To keep price, shipping cost and environmental impact as low as possible, no charger is included in the box. If you do not have a wireless charger already, it can be found in most electronics stores at a low cost.
Oceans (oceans.io) is a mobile social network and digital logbook for scuba divers, founded by divers in 2014 with a mission to make the underwater world universally accessible to anyone, everywhere. With award-winning design and user experience, and a community of tens of thousands of scuba divers and ocean champions, we are co-creating the number one community for divers around the world.
All weekends, we highlight some of the best logs in Oceans in what we call #DiveoftheWeek — and every year, one of our diver's logs is selected “Dive of the Year” by our ambassador and aquanaut Fabien Cousteau. Have look at our Instagram reaching over 40 thousand followers to see some of the stunning underwater photos taken by our community!
The creators of Oceans are long-term divers, engineers and product designers with decades of experience in software and hardware design for the scuba industry, working to create a better world for the global ocean, and the diving community worldwide.
