Ocean Mimic is a recycled swimwear collection for men and women to power a movement to protect our oceans. We are trying to solve the complex plastic issue at the source while cleaning up the mess by developing a one-of-a-kind clean up community.
We have created a vibrant collection of recycled swimwear inspired by creatures or plastic found in the ocean. For every $10 you spend on a product we will collect 1 kg of trash from the beaches and oceans.
In Indonesia around 65,000 tonnes of trash a day fails to make it to landfill. Instead, it fills our oceans, buries the beaches and is disrupting the true essence of this beautiful country. Indonesia is the second greatest contributor to ocean plastic responsible for dumping an estimated 3.2 million tonnes a year. That’s 90 tonnes every single minute!
We moved to Bali and started beach clean ups there. One weekend we picked up over 1 ton of plastic from a single beach with over 80 volunteers. Awareness is the first step towards taking action. We have a much bigger vision than clean ups and with your help we can not only spread awareness but implement solutions to stop the plastic at the source
Beach clean ups drive awareness and empower a community to recognize that when united we all have the ability to be a part of a movement bigger than ourselves. Not only are they inspiring to the individual but they start a conversation and they are powerful tools to spread awareness.
If this Kickstarter is a success we will be boosting our clean ups to the next level and worldwide. If we get enough funding we will be developing an app to track the clean ups so you can see exactly where your trash was collected from and even who by. We also want to start local projects in schools and villages to educate on plastic and provide alternatives.
This is what 1 Kilo looks like. Spend $10 today and we will pick up this much trash.
And this is what 20 Kilos looks like. Pledge for the 'Trashbow' and we will spell out your name in a rainbow of trash!
We have created a unique collection of recycled swimwear inspired by the crafty Mimic octopus. The mimic octopus imitates other creatures in the ocean to outsmart its predators. We wanted to take our inspiration from the marine life we love to create bright and colorful designs which educate and inspire.
Our swimwear is made of Carvico Vita, a fabric made of recycled plastic and fishing nets. Why not turn waste into fashion? Vita results in a drastically lower carbon footprint without compromising on quality. Our swimwear is stretchy, soft and breathable with factor 50 UV protection.
Bodysuit Size Guide
This campaign will also allow us to continue developing new designs based on your suggestions. What would you like to see next?
We also have our 100% cotton t-shirts suitable for everyone! Simple logo on the front and plain back. White, black and turquoise options.
For every $10 you spend we will collect 1 kg of trash from the beaches and oceans. The movement can’t grow without the collection. We designed products for ocean lovers to fund our clean up mission to form a sustainable environmental project.
Ordering on Kickstarter is a little bit different from an online store.
We have a few different "perks" which you can see below that you can chose from or you can donate money without a reward. You pick your perk or donate and you choose your design and your size later on along with your shipping address.
If you want to order more than one perk then you can follow our guide below
e.g. one bodysuit + one rash guard OR three bodysuits OR one sticker + one T-shirt
How to order more than one reward:
We are Emma and Chelsea. We are both scuba divers who fell totally in love with the ocean. The thrill of the unknown, the mystery of the strange and wonderful creatures, the beauty of the reefs and it's inhabitants and the calming sensation of flying effortlessly and weightlessly in the water. We met on Rawa Island in Malaysia working for Orca Nation as dive professionals. Little did we know then what our friendship would end up creating!
Part of our work with Orca Nation was doing regular ocean and beach clean ups. Through experiencing the overwhelming amounts of plastic first hand we were not only inspired to be more conscious of our lifestyle but felt compelled to build a whole business around it. We also at the same time realised that there weren't many exciting options for dive wear. It felt wrong to be entering such a colourful and vibrant world in black or grey!
We came up with the idea of developing designs inspired by marine life. People have been wearing animal prints for decades - why not fish prints!? Somehow we merged these ideas together and voila - Ocean Mimic was born.
Honestly we didn't expect the support we have had. We still hop up and down with happiness when we get encouraging messages, reach a new milestone or see a new product in our hands. After all we are just two girls who truly care about the ocean. We took a leap of faith and put everything into this. We really hope it all goes well and thank you for your support and your interest. It means the world to us.

Risks and challenges
Creating a product line has been tough but luckily we have established friendships with many incredible people who are helping us along the way. Their experience in business, manufacturing and distribution has been extremely helpful. We are also lucky to be working with mentors and have a partnership with Orca Nation.
This campaign will directly fund our first production run of the Ocean Mimic collection. We are confident that we will meet our timeline given that the manufacturer's keep to the agreed schedule. If we do experience delays you will be the first to know! If you have any questions about the campaign please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the past year we have overcome so many obstacles already and learnt so much, it’s unreal! Sometimes we can’t believe that we are here finally launching our first collection on Kickstarter.
Ocean Mimic’s mission is to create an empowered community inspired to protect and restore the oceans. Our swimwear helps to fund this mission and we hope the designs inspire us to protect the beauty found in our oceans. Remember - it all starts with you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
