Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) is becoming a more prominent sport for both competitive athletes, as well as general fitness enthusiasts. Two of the leading OCR names in the industry are Reebok Spartan Race and American Ninja Warrior, and more names are popping up as the sport rises in popularity. What makes these challenging races so popular? What thought process takes the average person and entices them to participate in a potentially dangerous, often dirty, physical and mental challenge like an obstacle course race? The bustling Bay Area has a rapidly growing community of OCR enthusiasts who are in need of a safe and comfortable environment to practice their skills. Those who have been involved in the community for a while have reached out to similar gyms in search of such a facility, but the options have been limited. Finding a fun and engaging group of like-minded individuals, and the right fit at the right price, is of utmost importance to maintain a consistent fitness regimen.
ObstaCourse currently has the most variation in obstacle selection, and we insist upon a positive and fun environment for everyone who walks in the door. We have skilled professional athletic coaches with years of experience to help you train, and to prepare you both physically and mentally. Although strength and fitness are important assets for OCR, technique is key. It’s difficult to learn technique during a race, which is why we have designed ObstaCourse for you to fully prepare yourself before you get on the course! With the hands-on experience of our wonderful coaches, you will be reaching beyond your goals in no time. ObstaCourse was designed to meet the needs of all levels of fitness, from the first-timer to the skilled elite racer. At ObstaCourse, our goal is to help you gain confidence in your abilities, and to give you the tools you need to succeed. We offer a fun and welcoming environment to learn, train, practice, and hone your skills. Whether this is your first time joining a fitness group, you are a competitive obstacle course racer, or you dream of being the next American Ninja Warrior, ObstaCourse has the tools you need to build strength and stamina, and to conquer obstacles. We have designed an elaborate indoor course with obstacles of varying difficulty. It can be used as a full course, or taken on section by section. We'll be open Monday - Sunday with strength training classes, obstacle training classes, obstacle course racing, teen nights and an after-school program for teenagers. We also offer a scholarship program for underprivileged teenagers.
One of the best aspects of obstacle course racing, is that it is a close-knit community filled with other people just like you, who are trying to better themselves and achieve their highest potential. It’s a supportive group of determined individuals who have chosen to challenge themselves in new ways. We focus on the positive, and stray away from negative thoughts like, “I can’t,” and “I will never be able to.” Everyone starts at a different level of fitness, just as each person has different personal goals. Some of us are overcoming injuries or disabilities that we feel prevent us from doing certain things. What everyone has in common, is that they’re working to improve their fitness, working toward goals, and expanding their goals and achievements to include things they may have never thought possible. The strength lies within you; sometimes the biggest obstacle you face is fear itself. We want to help you overcome that fear, and reach beyond your insecurities. This is best achieved in an environment where you can learn and grow without worrying about the judgment of others. It is our hope that you will find this at ObstaCourse.
“I could NEVER do that!” “That’s crazy!” “You must be CRAZY!” - These are all things that we hear people say out of fear of the unknown. This kind of fear instills and encourages a negative attitude about one’s own abilities. If you doubt yourself, you will fail. If you believe in yourself, you will achieve. It’s that simple.
Risks and challenges
We're up against many challenges. But that is the nature of the beast. This is what we do and teach people to do. Face a challenge and conquer it. Our business plan is in place, we have found a building we really like and ready to move forward. We need the Landlord to trust in our program and give us a shot. Right now we are in the application process and negotiating lease terms. This is a big investment and we're putting everything on the line leasing a building in the Bay Area. The building we want is available in May. We love it! It is 5,000 sq ft in the heart of Redwood City. We want to secure the spot, start construction in May, and distribute our KickStarter rewards. We hope to have the doors open by June. There is a possibility we do not get this building and we need to continue the search for the right spot. That would mean rewards would be delayed until we have a new building secured. We will continue our search until we find our building no mater what obstacles we face.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
