Update #26: One Final Stretch Goal

And here it is...

$4m Stretch Goal - Enhance the Whole Game

OK! After much team deliberation we have one final ultimate stretch goal. At $4.0m we will be enhancing the whole game. We will use live instrumentation for the soundtrack, add developer in-game commentary, and use every dollar between $3.5m and $4m to enhance the game. Also at $4.0m Chris Avellone will be forced to play Arcanum.

We are streaming live now on Twitch and UStream. We will be playing board games, answering your questions, and having fun!

Thank you everyone!

@Dylyan Yes it counts towards the stretch goal...

@Gorthauer. I think we would love to back Shaker, but we are now broke. Talk about bad timing. They should have waited at least a month for the dust to settle and our wallets to recover. Too bad, looks interesting.

I think they are all hung over from the party yesterday. We may get some news tomorrow when they can type again ;)

Yeah, where is the update? ^^ And do you still "make the whole game better"? You reached 4 Mill with PayPal, but not sure if that counts towards the strech goal?

And of course: Congratulations!! Can't wait to play the game!

      Hello, Obsidian Intertainment developers!
I love your games so much, starting from Fallout and Bloodlines, and ending with my favourite Neverwinter Nights 2 (replaying it now) and New Vegas.
I'm very glad with your new game announcement, Project Eternity.
BUT! As you've already scored the success and collected most funds - would you please turn to players in your next update, asking them to support less legendary devs with their project Shaker on Kickstarter.
Because you've already achieved 100% goal and even set up the new funding record. And they have to get atleast announced minimum (1 000 000$).
Too few worthy old-school RPG's are released nowadays, their project can't even rival yours (another genre, weaker crew)...I wouldn't like another great game become dead without a birth.
Please show solidarity to Shaker-RPG devs and support less lucky associates.
Your words mean much for players. And if you ask them for support in your next update - you can save as Shaker project as prevent COMPANY RUIN.
      Hope for your mercy.
      Sincerely yours, Gorthauer.

We reached the 4M goal - it's kinda irritating that the "we're funded!" post does not reflect this...
Anyways, congrats for funding the game and looking forward to get unemployed in apr. 2014. :)

    8. Aoyagi Aichou on October 17, 2012

Oh, some of the comments here remind me...
I'm really hoping that this won't turn into a game full of half-naked women with perfect body and oversized ... chest. The artworks Obsidian released so far look great though!

    9. retakrew7 on October 17, 2012

Arcanum was and still is the game I consider having the best character development I have ever seen in any game, I played it since my childhood and since then I always wanted another game with such a depth in char creation and general gameplay. The only thing that wasn't the best was the fighting system.

This close to the four million mark? Unbelievable... But still one heck of an accomplishment!

Lmao. He shouldn't need to be forced to play Arcanum if he's a true RPG fan.

    12. Senchaholic on October 17, 2012

Yeah, I'm sure they should've reached over 4 mil with Paypal.

    13. Jeff Kaplan on October 17, 2012

Awesome. We were so close that PayPal assuredly pushed us over the 4.0 Million goal. I personally have no qualms with a quality synthesized soundtrack composed by a real artist, with the savings going into more story depth and additional areas along with character development. This could possibly exceed even the venerable Sid Meiers fame as a legendary gaming milestone! Go Obsidian!
Finally, I am personally honored to be part of such a dedicated, motivated focused group of fellow gamers!

    14. bl0m5t3r on October 17, 2012

congratz! as for the 4.0mil, i guess with paypal and kickstarter combined it must have been reached.
i guess they will post a final update soon.

Awesome! Thank you for reply :)

    16. Eran on October 17, 2012

Yes, the forum says the 4 mil goal was cleared, so now we get an enhanced game and Avellone will be tied to a chair and made to play Arcanum! Personally, i can think of worse fates than that :P

    17. Missing avatar

      NorthCross on October 17, 2012

Hmm. It's very close to 4mil. So will we get stuff from this goal?

    18. Galahard on October 17, 2012

Yay for 4 M! Sorry Avellone, it's worth it, don't deny it. :P

    19. Aoyagi Aichou on October 17, 2012

@Petrus: What? Live instrumentation on it's own is worth that much, at least for me.

      Petrus on October 17, 2012

Well that 4.0 millon goal was basically saying: we don't really have anything specific we want to promise, but yes if you pay us more we'll be putting it into the game, and don't feel to bad if you miss this goal we never expected to get this far anyway, but it would be awesome if we DID get 4.0 million. Biggest difference between 3.9mil and 4.0mil would have been that someone would have been forced to play arcanum. So i don't see why they wouldn't add pay pal to the goal.

    21. Nadan Hotić on October 17, 2012

doubt that they will count paypal towards the 4 mil goal... im hoping, but im doubtfull :-(

    22. Jorge Palanca on October 17, 2012

This is so much full of awesome. Congrats, guys!

    23. Eran on October 17, 2012

13k short? are you kidding me??
Well, even though it didn't reach the official stretch goal amount, i'm sure they will use it to make the game better, even if it means getting better lunch for the team everyday - a happy team is a better team :)

Now i need to find something to keep me occupied for 18 month :-/

    24. sasklacz on October 17, 2012

So have we reached 4m with kickstarter + paypal together ?

    25. LuckyLuigi on October 17, 2012

I'm playing Arcanum right now, it's one of the best games I know even with its many flaws because it is so INTERESTING. Play it Chris, you won't regret it.

    26. Francesco De Domenico on October 17, 2012

Oh god this is going to be achieved too right? :D

    27. Jared87 on October 17, 2012

"So Chris, we'd like another set of eyes to go over this-"
      "SHUT UP! Arcanum!"
"Man... this was a bad idea..."

    28. JonNik on October 17, 2012

Arcanum rocks. Chris should definitely play it (just finished a replay myself) ;)
Also 4+ (with paypal)... Simply amazing... Currently replaying IWD complete and I am very eager to see what you guys have in store for us here.

    29. Jukka Palko on October 17, 2012

So, the $4 million mark was now reached when counting also the Paypal payments?

Just checked that the update in twitter read $140,099 via Paypal.

Yeah with PayPay the exceeded it easily already, plus probably another dungeon level. So no worries the 4.0 Mil goal was successful.

    34. Bunker Beaker on October 17, 2012

if they hold it open through the week they could get that through paypal if they haven't already.

    35. Ingemar on October 17, 2012

Meh 13071$ from 4m and many improvements :/

Yo guys, just going to quote this post for all of you wondering if this 'counts' for 4.0m:

Ryan Torigoe - Obsidian Order about 2 hours ago

$4,000,000 has been reached about 40 minutes ago. Now go for $4.5 million.

I'm sure they'll post on their website the grand tally for everything. Also: If they want to make the dungeon REALLY mean they WON'T let you have an easy way back out, MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    43. Karkarov on October 16, 2012

Grats to everyone at Obsidian, this was an awesome kickstarter campaign and I am happy to have gotten a chance to support it. I also cant think of a more appropriate number to end the Endless Paths on than 13 hahaha. Will give the place a nice ominous feel.

      on October 16, 2012

@Rainmaker Try to be patient a while longer. My charge just went through a minute or so ago, and they have over 70K accounts to go through.
If you haven't heard by about noon tomorrow, suspect something went wrong. (Usually, though, even if the payment gets rejected, you'll get an e-mail telling you that fact).

    45. T.J. Brumfield on October 16, 2012

They did pass 4 million. I know they had over 100k on PayPal which gets added to the Kickstarter total.

    46. Stevepunk on October 16, 2012

Aww so close to 4k. But I'm sure they'll put everything into it to make it the best it can be! :D

    47. Aaron Alberg on October 16, 2012

Probably the best computer game stronghold I have ever encountered was in Suikoden. I encourage anyone working on Project Eternity stronghold mechanics/design to play all the way through Suikoden. Lots of companions/alternate party members as well.
