Update #23 - Less than 50 hours to go!

Posted by Obsidian Entertainment (Creator)

We’ve hit the $3M mark now on Project Eternity and it’s on to add another Big, Big City to the game! We have less than 50 hours to go before the Kickstarter ends!

Before we announce some new stuff, some quick housekeeping is in order. If you are looking to add anything on to your pledge, check out our Project Eternity Add-On List page. This includes instructions on how to add on other options, as well as what our current offerings are.

Also to reduce some confusion in finding what each tier contains (we’re no longer able to update some of our posts on the Kickstarter site), we have a comprehensive list of the Project Eternity Reward Tiers up as well over on our Tumblr site.

Two last items, we’re hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) tomorrow on reddit. A number of Project Eternity staffers will be on hand at 10AM PDT / 1PM ET to answer your questions about the game! Then at 5 PM PDT / 8 ET, watch us on Ustream play some D&D in the studio!

Project Eternity the Documentary

The big news for the day is that we are adding a documentary covering the development of Project Eternity.

After getting a lot of requests to do a documentary, like the Double Fine Adventure, we started looking into it a couple of weeks ago. We talked about it more last week and decided that we don’t have a visual history of one of our games, even after almost ten years as a company. We felt it was something we should just do and do it without it being a new stretch goal.

So, we are happy to announce that we are going to include a stream, download, or physical copy of the documentary in all of our Kickstarter reward tiers. At the $20/$25 level you will be able to stream it, at the $35 level you will be able to download it, and at the $140 level (and physical tiers above) we will include a DVD / Blu-ray.

We are not going to use the Kickstarter funding to do this however, since this is something we decided to do anyway. To us, it is a thank you to all of you for supporting us over the last month in making Project Eternity a reality and a historical record for everyone at Obsidian as well.

Project Eternity Playing Cards Add-On

As a fun new add-on for Sunday, we are now offering Project Eternity playing cards for $10. Designed by Scott Everts, one of our longtime technical artists who worked on Black Isle’s Infinity Engine games, and does a lot of work on board games, he designed this beautiful set which will feature characters and maybe critters (Kerfluffleupogus, Devourer of the Faithful anyone?) from Project Eternity. Check out the Project Eternity Add-On List on how to add-on items to your pledge. (Please note: Playing Cards only available to tiers including physical items. For digital tier folks, we’ll hopefully sell these as a future store offering.)

New Wallpaper

Last, but not least, we’ve received a lot of great feedback on the concept art for some of our first key characters. So here is a new wallpaper with each of the characters that we have released so far. Might we be releasing more art soon? Stay tuned…

1920x1080 | 1920x1200

Tomorrow, we will be updating everyone with a schedule for Tuesday and another fun add-on. Oh and we have some plans for a crazy new reward tier for Tuesday morning.

Thanks everyone!

Wait, a steam key or a gog key? What's stopping you from providing both?

    2. T.J. Brumfield on

Baldur's Gate or NWN-style co-op would be nice, especially if it is determined you'll be able to write and run your own modules/adventures.

Who knows? Maybe support for that could come with the expansion.

I would up my pledge to the $80+ tier if co-op was going to be a feature of this game. So far it seems that it isn't likely though. :(

What's the chance to get a larger view of the cards? I'm upping my pledge already, by almost double, but more information on the cards would be nice.

    5. Jeff on

Documentary sounds great! Pledge upped to get a download of it. Wonder if I can afford a Strategy Guide and a few other add-ons...
      Poor credit card!

    6. Nioub on

The Add-On List is still missing the Downloadable Soundtrack add-on. Please add it before the final hour!

Still waiting for a new pic of the mega dungeon( should be 9 levels now, should´n it?).

    9. T.J. Brumfield on

The project is currently on pace for $3.3 through Kickstarter (and a little more through PayPal).

      http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity/

If this is going to hit $3.5 million before the end, we need to keep spreading the word.

    10. Michael Morfeld on

You should definitely do 2 different colored card backs and sell a set of playing cards as well.

    11. Johannes 'Waldgeist' Rebhan on

And added 20 dollars for the expansion :D I hope that we reach 3.5. It would be great to see this taking the record for game funding on Kickstarter. I've backed many gaming projects so far, but this is by far the most exciting for me.

    12. Brad Dobberfuhl on

What's the back-side of each card look like?

    13. Alexander Martinsson on

      Another great update!
Can almost see the finish line from here...

btw, will there be a chance to buy some of the physical stuff down the line? Like cloth map and playing cards?

    14. limesix on

Hey Stephen, the headline of every email (in the body) is actually a link to the kickstarter.

Any chance of a cloth map add-on?

Hey, when you send out your updates can you include a link to your kickstarter in them? I mostly view updates through my email, and it's discouraging to have to type in the kickstarter URL and then search for project eternity and click on the link in the long list of games with eternity in their name when all I want to do is send you money. Kickstarter's UI isn't very good and the less clicks you put between backers and sending you money the more money you'll probably make (at least if the intro to UI design class I took is correct).

      @Riley Mann:

They have stated in an earlier update (no clue which one) that they will do their utmost to release modding tools for PE after release of the game (and that the Union Engine should make it possible too do so), but that they will not make it into a stretch goal because they believe the money should be used for the game itself primarily.

    18. George Patterson on

it says "we’ll hopefully sell these as a future store offering" which would be good i like that they look like playing cards with the king, queen and ace but like LeDe i am on a digital tier i wish i could put more to this but that is how things go

    19. Missing avatar

      Britt LeDe on

Oh man oh man oh man, is there any possible way you could make an exception on the physical tier requirement for the playing cards? I'm only at a digital tier, and can't afford to go up to 65 for a physical tier, but I have to have those cards. I collect playing cards and my heart skipped a beat when I read this announcement, then immediately sunk at the reminder it was only available with the physical game. I would totally buy these if you made them available some other way if you are not able to get them to me as a reward for my digital tier pledge

    20. Per Kristian Brastad

Added to get cards too. cant wait to play the game when it comes out.

    21. ET3D on

I think it's cool that there will be a documentary. The Double Fine one has been interesting.

      ;)

As an international backer, how much extra will I have to add for shipping if I want to get the cards? I'm already going for the collector's edition box

      Riley Mann on

What are the chances that they'll release a dev kit or some modding tools like for Neverwinter Nights 2?
I can only imagine how more infinitely awesome this game would be if they were to do that...

    25. Richard on

I gotta agree with some of the previous posters; for the love of God PLEASE upload the final stream somewhere! And if not officially, I hope one of you guys (yes, you reading this) will record it and put it on YouTube for us who can't watch it.
      Bros before sleep guys!

    26. Aoyagi Aichou on

Hmm, I've just noticed... the $250 and $500 tiers aren't that different, are they? :) Oh well, the game will make up for it no doubt I can't wait and yet I can't avoid thinking "don't rush this, Obsidian". Not that the voices in my head mattered :3
Anyway, how come nobody has mentioned the level of violence? Is it going to be the bloody mess from Fallout 1/2 or the very mild blood splatters NWN2 has? Either will do, it's more of a curiosity than reassuring.

    28. Laurent Maire on

Incredible news about the documentary. That's just extremely generous of you. I'd happily have paid extra for this so I'm off to increase my pledge by a few dollars in thanks. Those playing cards are awfully tempting too, you know exactly how to massage the nerd-collector centers in my brain ;)

    29. Paul D on

The wallpaper makes a great backdrop on a latest model iPad. Thank you for another great update!
As much as this is a computer game, and its medium digital, I am looking forward to the physical items :)

    30. September Abraxas on

Uh, Cartman, I really think you should change the name of the mountains from "White March" to something a bit less politically unsteady.

Damn, those cards are tempting, I would buy 2 of those. I play a lot of cards with my girlfriend. Is it possible that we get those before the game ships? Also, if I choose that, how much money should I add for shipping?

    32. S.D. on

Great update! Our clan is excited to see what you've got in store for us. Thanks for confirming the update will play in the Linux version... that kind of platform commitment will gather you some rabid fans for years to come, no doubt about it! I hope to catch the live webcast... popcorn in hand.

    33. Michael Ryan on

+1 for a Cloth Map add-on. I'm going to go for the Collector's Edition, but I would most definitely get the Signed Collector's Edition if I didn't have to open the box for the Cloth Map.

PLEASE make the Cloth Map an add-on for any physical tier!!

    34. Johan Munkestam on

There we go - doubled my pledge. ^_^

Please can you make something like skyrim as you can travel to new parts of worlds and pick up new magics and talents so can your NPCs. But unlike the player you can only enroll them in schools that they present interests to go. So the monk can join plenty of kung fu and meditation schools and can really look great in the game.
U see I believe even if a character is creepy from outside, it can stand out as a great character later on if we are able to add great abilities to it and some expression of a personality that is very different from others and make the NPC to stand out from the crowd.

      @Dj Gilcrease
I think with the FB and the 62.5k contributors we are at 10 levels right now, plus with the paypal contributors (about 1,813) we are almost to 11.

    38. Dj Gilcrease on

Just checking the status of the mega dungeon, if my math is correct we have 9 levels now (62,500+ contributors and 20k FB likes).

    39. Mark Fenrir on

Congrats on all the achivements, team! Let's try for 3.5 mi.

Just have to say I'm not really feeling the "monk" character. He has a weird feeling to him.

    40. Nektarios Karamalikis on

Nice wallpaper and great idea to create a documantary. Making it available even for the low level backers, like me i'm afraid, was also a very nice gesture. Keep up the good work and don't forget that we are counting on you to bring back the magic of old school and yet timeless rpg's.

edit: looking forward to another in-game screenshot/wallpaper

      @Gerardo

It's worded a little funny, but when they say "it’s on to add another Big, Big City to the game!" I think they are implying "the push is on to add another big, big city"

I thought Big City was in 3.5M... is a mistake or what?

I too would like a cloth map as an addon. I'd like the boxed version here with the map as well as being a part of the RPGCodex party, but both pledges would be a bit too high so I'll have to compromise. With a cloth map I'd be able to get the regular box and fund both.
