Update #4 - Add-Ons (Updated Oct 11), Digital Tiers, and DRM

Add-Ons (Updated Oct 11)

Looking to customize your reward tier a bit? Add the following on to your pledge using the Manage Pledge button at the top of the Project Eternity Kickstarter site. When making an add-on you need to manually change the amount of your pledge when using the Manage Pledge button.

You can change your pledge as much as you want during the Kickstarter campaign, you will only be charged after the end of the campaign based upon what is listed as your pledge at that time.

Note: All add-ons require base pledge to be at the $20 tier and above.

Digital Add-Ons (Any Tier $20 and Above)

  • Digital Download of Expansion Pack +$20 (included in tiers $165 and above)
  • Digital Download of World Almanac +$15 (included in tiers $50 and above)
  • Digital Strategy Guide +$7 (included in tiers $80 and above)
  • Early Access Beta Key +$25 (included in tiers $110 and above)
  • Extra Digital Download of the Game +$25
  • Extra Three Digital Downloads of the Game +$60

Physical Add-Ons (Physical Tiers Only, $65, $100, $140, $250 and above)

  • Project Eternity Mouse Pad +$15 (included in physical above tiers $140 and above)
  • Project Eternity T-Shirt +$25 (included in physical above tiers $100 and above)
  • Obsidian T-Shirt +$25

For T-shirt add-ons, we will ask for the size that you want at the end of the Kickstarter campaign in a survey that will be sent to you in e-mail.

As a quick tutorial on how to add add-ons, goto the Project Eternity site on Kickstarter and then hit the Manage Your Pledge button. The reward tier you had already selected will still be selected and the amount will be in the big box at the top. All you need to do is add the dollar amount that covers the add-ons you would like to your pledge and enter the new total number. For instance, if you are at the $35 Pledge level and want to add one Digital Download, you would enter $60 as your total pledge.

After the Kickstarter campaign is over, we will send you a survey that will let you explain how you wanted to additional money pledged should be used.

Update #4

Well you all did it, you helped us get to $1.6M and we now have a Mac version and are adding more story into the world.

We have also been listening and reading your feedback on Kickstarter and have some changes that are happening as soon as this update is posted. One thing we are not updating just yet are the stretch goals but don’t worry, those are going to get updated very soon. Oh, and we are putting a schedule together for updates that will include guest stars almost every day – Josh will be talking more about the design tomorrow (Sep 20), our unflappable CTO Chris Jones (architect of the Fallout and Arcanum engines) on Friday (Sep 21), and I think we will be able to squeeze one in from Mr. Tim Cain over the weekend.

So, what are those changes?!?

DRM-Free Option

You asked and we are delivering. In conjunction with GOG, we are going to offer a DRM-free version of the game for our Kickstarter Backers. When the campaign ends, you will be able to choose whether you would like a key from GOG or Steam. For our Mac friends, we are still working on a DRM-free option, since GOG does not currently support the Mac. Oh, and the great guys at GOG are having a special right now on all of the great Infinity Engine games (ends September 21st!) so check that out as well.

New Digital Tiers

We are adding a $50 and an $80 digital tier. The $50 tier will get you the digital version of the game, the soundtrack, the digital version of the Collector’s Book, a collection of wallpapers made for multiple resolutions and multiple monitors, high resolution concept art, a high resolution version of the map, and ringtones. For the $80 tier, you will get all of that plus a digital copy of the strategy guide, and a second digital download of the game.

New for our Collector's Edition Box Level ($140)

Lastly we want to announce that we are going to give our backers at the Collector’s Edition Box Level ($140) a little extra today and that is Beta access to the game! That’s just a little taste of what we will be adding into tiers in the coming days and weeks through stretch goals and the occasional random act.

Wonder will the game have support for eyefinity or multiple monitor support. If not I'd like to request it.

Many thanks for GOG version. I'll definitely chose this one, since I don't need a client installed to run PE. Love Your approach to the phrase "listening to the fans" :)

DRM free awesomeness! I consider upping my pledge!

    4. IIzTrollin on September 19, 2012

Lets say we pledge the 50$ would we still get 2 copies one from the 25$ and another for adding another 25$?

Nice, I love seeing GOG getting more exposure. I love Steam but for singleplayer games I prefer GOG because of the lack of DRM.

Anyway, just updated my pledge to the new $80 tier! I love strategy guides for the second (and third etc) playthrough, and now I can gift a copy of the game to my brother.

I'm not to happy about the stretch goals..
Seems to me that it shouldn't cost 200K to get another Race, Class, and Companion..

Stretch goals should be for things like mod tools and ports for different OS's
It just feels lazy.. and a way to cox more money out of us..

I guess i'm saying that I feel half the stretch goals are kind of rubbing me the wrong way..

Props though on the DRM free version on GoG!

    8. Jhonrock on September 19, 2012

Hey, i thought in a stretch goal that could be really fun and, at the same time, very good to give the game world more life.
      .
As one of the digital rewards, you could let the backer voice a NPC, but not a main NPC, just the simple ones, like a beggar in an alley, or some commoners talking common things while walking on the street, or a shopkeeper atending the player character, or a crazy cultist talking nonsense in a square, things like that. (Obsidian chooses the dialogs to be voiced and where the NPC will be located).
      .
It could be really fun, and i think that kind of voice actors within the game could contribute a lot to the game immersion, breathing some life to the game world, without compromising the story branches.

Glad it's going to be on the Mac. I'm happy for a DRM-free option as well. I'd love it if there was a way just to add the Strategy guide and map. Looking forward to this great game!

Isn't it nice when things work out the way they should? This project and GOG are so perfectly suited for one another. I'm glad they realized this, and I will definitely be getting the GOG version.

    12. Daz23 on September 19, 2012

Thanks for the GOG version. I'm interested in the Linux version of the game. Will the Linux version of the game be steam only or will there be a GOG version also. I guess we have over a year to find out. Oh.. I'm confident we will reach the Linux stretch goal. :)

    13. Robert Baratheon on September 19, 2012

DRM few version is EXCELLENT! Will raise my pledge on principle. Thanks for listening to gamers. GOG rocks!

@Armin: If you never had a problem with Steam before and like it, just go for that. A DRM-free version can be copied as you see fit to other computers and played without any form of activation. That's it.

    15. Kevin Vega on September 19, 2012

yes...being deployed to Afghanistan, or any country where internet is a rare commodity, DRM is the bane of our existence. Hence why people console game more deployed, but I think PC would make a come back if not for the DRM.

As an old Ultima fan and map nut I'd very much love to see the cloth map as an add-on or just made available for purchase once the game is out or something. The collector box is cool, but I can't justify the additional cost for the map (the other goodies are cool too, don't get me wrong, but the main draw for me is the map).

Great news! I've been waiting just for the No-DRM news to increase my pledge.

P.s. may I suggest the Humble Store ( as used by FTL, Retro City Rampage and others ) for the drm-free mac ( and hopefully linux ) builds

    25. Hobbes on September 19, 2012

Thank you for the GOG option.

    26. Armin Momtahan on September 19, 2012

Hmmm now the question is, do I want it on Steam or GOG...I have an account on both but idk, I really like steam, what are the pros of a DRM-free version?

    27. Pedro Antonio Sanz Jiménez on September 19, 2012

About the Addons thing; the first day I pledged $60 but I choose the $35 tier, because it was the only digital tier on the first day.
If I have understood it well, If I left my pledge as it is ($60 pledge, $35 tier), I will obtain the $35 tier and a second digital copy. Is that correct?

Why don't you guys just disable DRM on the Steam version of the game?

It's not a required thing that every game sold through Steam has DRM.

    29. Dragoon on September 19, 2012

Thanks so much for the GOG.com option. DRM really diminish the value of a game and I don't like that my ability to play games depend on something unreliable like the Internet.

    30. Tobi (Crusader Kickstarter pls!!) on September 19, 2012

oh and i'll definitely get my game through STEAM.

    31. Tobi (Crusader Kickstarter pls!!) on September 19, 2012

awesome! wow, looking forward to the updates and guest stars, woohoo! need to get my kickstarter fix after all ;)

    32. Matthew Nash on September 19, 2012

Kinda annoyed that I want 2 copies of the game (Steam/GOG) shouldn't they be both in the $50 bundle as it is the last digital only tier, asking this as I'am from the UK and it would cost me an arm and a leg for any of the other tiers to go through customs and tax as well.

Very good news on the DRM-free option! Thank you for considering other distribution channels than Steam, I think many will appreciate that (I certainly am), especially through a site like GOG, which is building a reputation for selling quality RPGs and adventure games.

    42. Laurent Maire on September 19, 2012

Classy guys. Well played. The GOG option is a perfect fit for your game and I'm sure they'll help you promote the hell out of it. A real pity they haven't made the move yet to supporting Mac games. I guess the Mac ports of games they distribute have different publishing deals and thus different partners to negotiate with. With ports that are self-published though here's hoping we start seeing those in the next couple of years.

Some more more meaty updates and details on your vision for the game will be much appreciated. Looking forward to it!

    43. Joel Connelly on September 19, 2012

    46. William C Crawford on September 19, 2012

@Matthew, they can't update the language on tiers that are already backed. "Previous reward tier + " is an unfortunate way to have decided to write their descriptions.

Yay for DRM free version from GoG!

      @John-Paul
If you want additional copies of the game, add $25 to your pledge for each additional copy, $60 for three copies.

      @Matthew
They can't update the $65 and $100 tiers (unless Kickstarter has changed that), but they can post something on the front page explaining that they do not include the previous all-digital tiers.

    48. Tevious on September 19, 2012
