You guys bring so much joy to me when i was a kid, i hope this game will be awesome

Yeah, another backer that would be devastated to find out if you spent his hard-earned money on voice actors when it isn't necessary at all.

    4. Arkimedes on

I think voice acting is very important, but it doesn't have to be for all lines and all characters. I liked Fallout 1 and 2 style where some npcs had voice and animated face so you know what kind of person he/she is and how he/she reacts to you.

Hope you hit 2m since I would love to see another game on Linux. Wasteland is going on that platform, Valve is going on that platform and I hope you too.
Voice acting - give it a break. Main character should not have it. NPC... well I'm sure it would be better if like in Fallout 1 and 2, VA apply only to important characters. This way you can create world as big as you want, expand it, allow people to make their own stuff (mods) etc.
And one more suggestion from me. You should think about map like in Fallout 1 and 2. Mostly because if you would at some point release mod tools for community it would be easy to add new locations and stuff.
Hope at some Xm point you will add mod tools to this game :) We would love that.

Thanks for this game guys! I can't wait to play it.

Voice acting makes it impossible to have a personal interpretation of the lines/characters.

    7. Goran Alajbegovic on

Yea, I'm with the guys below. I don't think voices are a good idea for such kind of game and such a budget.

Look at what happened to Dragon Age when they decided to voice the PC.

      Christoffel de Gruyter on

I agree, please don't do voices!!

It limits the choices available for building a PC, it limits the amount of creativity a designer can have and it absorbs a serious amount of resources that can be spent on far more important things like character detail and depth.

    10. Almir Listo on

I don't think voice overs are a good idea. Maybe for 1-2 lines for some NPCs, but if we want something in the scale of the games of old we need to be able to give Game designers the possibility to come up with funny NPC's without having to think about voicing them. The time it takes and the money it costs is just crazy.

    11. Johannes 'Waldgeist' Rebhan on

Since RPGs are very text heavy, I think a great stretch goal would be voice overs. They are terribly expensive, I know, but they enhance the mood a lot. Back in the day we gamers were a lot more used to reading a lot of dialogue, but after so many years of playing mostly fully voiced games, it's always a bit "silent" to go back to the old classics.

If you've already planned to have that anyway, ignore this comment :D

You rock and congrats to achieve funding that fast!

      @Mirko -
Good idea. Some localization for some non-english languages would be cool.

    14. Robin Ottens on

Oh wow, that went fast. Congrats!

Not having waded through the existing comments, I think you should work to add a soundtrack by Jeremy Soule at one of the funding levels. I think that alone would increase your number of backers all by itself. His music is fantastic, and one of the many reasons I loved the older Obsidian RPGs.

    19. Petr Kelbl on

DRM free is a must if you ask me..

and if there will be Dwarves, Elves mainly as playable rases and then some other classical ones also, and Orcs, Dragons and Trolls races to battle, im happy :)

Hell yeah! 1.1 mln in just 1 day, I think it's a sort of record...now give us a top-record rpg, we know you can do it guys! :):)

@Craig Bear -- Isn't it more like an 18 month wait?

    23. Craig "Daikaiju-Bile-Runner-san" Hatter on

WOOOOAHAAHAHAHAH!!! AWWEWEESOSOOMMMEEE... Now the excruciating 2 years wait begins. Goodluck guys! Take your time, do it right, and we will love you all because we know you want to produce the game that you want to make. Loving what you do really shows off in the end. Congratulations!

Ooops. Posted in the wrong thread. Sorry. Go team!

    26. Clocknova on

@ Anthony P Silva Thanks, pal. But a whole host of Mac and Linux gamers beg to disagree with you. These days, multiplatform support is a must. All the cool indie developers are doing it. I was holding out on my payment until a Mac version was certain. And now it is.

Mac and Linux gamers also tend to be more likely to pay for their games, too. Nice bonus.

Past fully-funded in two days to the tune of $1.1 million. That has got to be a record, or darn near close to one.

I believe in you Obsidian! Swing for the fences!

I didn't expect at all to see the goal reached so fast. It's quite amazing. I'm looking forward to the stretch goals.

I am tired of people destroying gaming with half ass super restrictive games! or games that make fun of the originals and the fans *cough*DIII*cough*

I want to see what a team of people without restrictions and backed by the fans can come up with : )
I hope to see you guys come up with a game that is a true masterpiece something we can connect with on a number of levels that will be amazing to play and will draw us down into the world you are creating for us and make us a part of it : )

You guys have made my favorite games of all time; Games that I can play till the day I die. I have never been a big fan of Kickstarter, but when I saw "Obsidian" I just had to pledge. I know you'll make yet another masterpiece guys. Thank you!

Fantastic :D. Just goes to show that you were right to believe in yourselves, and your fans do too :D. The publishers are simply wrong! You make great games, and people like me (in vast numbers it seems) want to buy them :D

I would really like to see the housing confer some kind of tangible benefit. I'm not really fond of games with housing that basically just acts as deco-ratable storage. Maybe unique buffs from buyable shrines? Forging unique weapons? Basically, elaboration on what the housing entails would be great.

definitely hoping we reach both race/class/buddy stretches.

This is great and all, but please remember to finish up South Park as quickly as you can too! Man, I want to play the Stick of Truth. No joke - it was my favorite game of this year's E3 :) Finish that up and polish up, optimize it for all platforms (I'm a PS3 gamer and I'm tired of getting crap ports, like with the whole recent Skyrim Dawnguard DLC not showing up on the platform) and squash all bugs please. Then knock yourselves out with Project Eternity!

I'd like to see stretch goals based on aesthetics: more detailed graphics, more voice acting, etc. Or (if it's not already planned) more differences in story/dialogue based on your character's race/class, to put more variety into replays.

    44. Andre on

What did you guys expect after dropping so many name-bombs? When I reloaded the latest projects on Kickstarter and saw Obsidian I couldn't believe my eyes and did a triple take. I didn't even see what it was you guys put up and clicked on pledge.

By the end of the campaign I'll probably go up higher than I already did because, face it, new IP from the guys that put out incredible games is something I want in on.
