This New Dance Film is the second collaboration between Obremski/Works and The Roof Films. After the first collaboration, No Words, Jesse Obremski (Founder and Artistic Director of Obremski/Works) found a deep appreciation for dance films in relationship to live performance and the creative processes for new works to find an honest, human atmosphere.
This New Creation's concept stemmed from a rehearsal for a commissioned new work at Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah) and their Contemporary Dance Theatre company. In rehearsing the new work, which was a double casted quintet, side by side, Obremski found that the unison stories with slight differences of intention, timing, focus, and physicality can explore our unique differences and universal connective tissue at the same time. This New Creation will explore this possibility and dive deeper into what the words "same", "identity", "unison" could mean.
This New Creation will have it's World Premiere at DUMBO Dance Festival 2019 at Gelsey Kirkland on Friday, October 11th at 9pm with another performance on Sunday, October 13th at 6pm. We will then film this New Creation with a new composition by The Roof Film's Co-Director/Co-Founder Jack Frerer made specifically for this work.
Risks and challenges
Through film, we are allowed to specifically guide audiences eyes into certain moments we are wanting more weight and gravity on though, with this concept, the entire world and all the artists are important to see. So how do we create an intriguing film that is sharing everyone as well as intimate moments?
With this, Jack Frerer and Liana Kleinman (Co-Directors and Co-Founders of The Roof Films) will be in the rehearsals process for this New Creation, in conversation, and finding moments and ideas to remedy this complex task of finding both synced "unison" and individual choices within each cast/atmosphere/world.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
