Hello we're Objest. We started out as a small, boutique product design studio. Now we've taken on the challenge of starting a new brand.
We launched our unisex Swiss quartz watch earlier this year. Now we're super excited to share our latest project with you: a beautifully crafted, Swiss automatic watch. Take a look, take your time. Download design PDF below to help configure your design.
After a rigorous process of sketching, 2D and then 3D design, we concluded that our unisex watches needed to have soft, subtle geometry and exquisite detail. The rolling, cambered surface help take the visual weight out of the product: put an Objest next to another 42mm case and Objest will appear smaller. This also has the added advantage of feeling more balanced on smaller wrists.
Although this is a modern watch design, we nonetheless wanted to draw from the ratios and component relations in older, classical timepieces. Traditionally watch hands used to have proportions of thirds – for example, the hour hand was two-thirds the length of the minute hand. This is a standard we've retained and designed back into the watch.
Our three-dimensional, numberless dials are made from one piece of metal. Each has a two-tone colouration, giving the dial added character and lustre.
Some of our earlier prototypes show the date window on the right side. The final design will have the date window on the left side. Some of the imagery and the video of consumers reviewing the watch are of the earlier prototype. i.e. window on the right.
During the development process we also asked our suppliers to prototype samples without a date window. These still use an ETA automatic movement but look the same as our Quartz watch. Some of this imagery has been used in the project.
Objest watches are hand made in Switzerland and assembled by a master watchmakers. Our unisex timepiece uses an ETA movement: an immensely reliable mechanism from a company with great pedigree within the luxury watch market. Watches that use the same mechanism include Breitling Windrider B13358LA/A700 and Rolex Submariner . You will even find it in some vintage watches.
ETA's build quality, precision and reliability are the three reasons why we decided to select this movement. Unfortunately, opting for a premium watch movement comes with a premium manufacturing price. Therefore, the biggest constraint we have is order volume and securing the watch movements, and this is where we need your support!
We have a good understanding of design, materials and colours but also appreciate that sometimes you, whether buying for yourself or as a gift, want a greater level of control. This is why we have integrated a level of customisation into our first automatic watch. You will be able to select from a pre-defined palette of materials and build a unique, premium timepiece. The customisation is extended to case, dial, strap, crown, buckle, minute, hour and second hand, and you can adjust everything: design, colour, material.
We've brought together a palette of colours that reflect a broad spectrum of tastes. From muted metallics to bright accent hour hands. Your design, your time.
Now we have the components, lets design! All of the cases, crowns and buckles come in a matte finish. There are two dial designs and four options of Italian leather straps.
These are a few of our favourites. What is yours?..
So many options, I need help
We've tried to make it a little easier for you to select the best option, from an all black watch to a beautiful gold nude version. Download and save these documents to your computer to help. Your final design will even be collected via a survey at the end of the project. All in good time...
All our watches are unisex and have a 42mm case, are 11.5 mm thick and are rated to 5 ATM (50 m). We are currently offering a number of finishes including Diamond Like Carbon (DLC), IP and gold. We use sapphire glass.
At Objest we believe in putting pleasure into the everyday. As our name suggests, we combine the playful with the practical, to produce beautiful contemporary objects that reward every touch and glance. Through imaginative conception and unexpected detailing, we seek to create a smile and unlock the lasting pleasures of thoughtful, personal design.
Our deeply held design principles shape our products. We are dedicated to high-quality materials, top craftsmanship and simple, elegant and engaging design. Adhering to these ensures beautiful, cultured products that will be treasured for a long time.
We have a very limited number of timepieces at the first watch reward level. We've tried to keep things as lean as possible in order to offer the Kickstarter community exceptional value.
We have a very close working relationship with our Swiss partners and will ensure the campaign and product runs within the schedule as outlined below.
What people are saying
Last week we exhibited at designjunction in London. We showed some of our earlier samples to consumers, this is what they said.
Objest was founded by Jared Mankelow. After fourteen years of collaborating with Conran, Tangerine and Ideo, he was inspired to create a new premium lifestyle brand.
Objest is immersed in London’s unique currents of design, art, architecture and culture, all of which find expression in the products we create for our worldly, wise and design-conscious customers.
Risks and challenges
We have done everything we can to identify potential or unforeseen risks or delays. We have a great team of manufacturing partners and work with real, achievable deadlines. If for any reason there are delays in production we will do everything humanly possible to identify and resolve the issues so there is little if no impact at all to you.
Developing new products can be extremely complex and requires a broad bandwidth of skills across brand, product and manufacturing. We have been rigorous in our approach, testing and prototyping but no development venture is entirely without risk.
One of the final Challenges is to keep the Kickstarter community informed of our progress. This is as the project runs but equally importantly when we near final production and as pledge rewards are sent out.
We really hope you can join us on this journey!
