Welcome to the project page for Burrows & Badgers! This is a project that has us really excited - it's to start production of a miniatures range of anthropomorphic animals, cast in fine pewter.

If you've seen Disney's Robin Hood, read the Redwall books, or played Mice and Mystics, you'll know the sort of thing we mean; mice, hares and other critters walking on their hind legs, wearing clothes and wielding swords... but ours are maybe a bit darker, more swords-and-sorcery  than cute and cuddly.

We want to start the range with 20 miniatures; we've got 15 sculpted already, and with any luck, the other 5 will be done before this project ends. (Edit - they're all sculpted now! Pics below...)

We're also aiming to put out a set of rules for a miniatures skirmish game; they'll be a free PDF for all backers. But that might take some time... the main focus of this project is to start producing the miniatures. (Another edit: A very basic alpha test version of the core rules is now online here:)

The Pledges

There are several pledge levels to choose from; ranging from a lone Badger, up to a full set of 20 pewter miniatures.

We are now adding Jo's new scatter terrain as a Pledge Level, and as an Add-on to other pledges for £20.

As a special bonus, all miniatures and terrain pledges will get a free resin Tomb of the Mouse Lord model!

The miniatures are different sizes depending on the pose they are in, and their species, from tiny shrews to giant badgers. Under each of the pictures above is a caption with the height in millimetres.

Here's a picture to show how some of the species scale up to each other:

Edit: The Ambush the Camp terrain set is avalable as a Pledge, or you can add it to another pledge level by adding £20 to your pledge. The terrain pieces are cast in polyurethane resin, and you get:

Thanks for looking at our project - I hope you think it's as cool as we do!

Risks and challenges

The biggest risk with metal miniature production is that the figure won't mould and cast correctly - this risk can be reduced by using the correct sculpting materials, by careful planning, and by having a good mouldmaker. The guy we're using has 30-odd years' experience, and we've worked with him on three projects before, so we know he's good.

Another risk is success - if we get more backers than we expect, then we could end up taking a longer time to deliver - there are only 2 of us to handle all the sorting, packing, and posting. But we have set the 'expected delivery date' as September 2015 to allow for this.

We actually hope to be beginning delivery earlier; all 5 of our previous projects delivered early.

Other than that, we don't expect any major problems. This is our sixth project, so we've already faced most of the possible issues, and figured out how to deal with them.

But I'm sure there'll be something we haven't thought of!
