A standard bicycle is by design not able to accommodate electrical components and batteries. Our hand-crafted carbon monocoque frame will transform your existing bicycle by replacing its frame and repurposing its components. The result is a highly versatile and rigid E-Bike. Our Kickstarter campaign will help us to acquire quality production tools and offer our product worldwide.
First and foremost, we would like to salute the ingenuity and resourcefulness of E-Bike pioneers. These builders started crafting frames with sheet metal, wood and duct tape, represent an enormous source of inspiration for us.

From Regular to E-Bike
NYX 2015 Frame Kit is designed to be the cornerstone of your E-Bike. The highly compatible carbon fiber frame can be utilized in two intuitive ways to match both your experience and budget.
Option 1 : Salvage your existing bike (Easy & Affordable)
On one hand, the frame can be used to convert your existing bicycle into a highly versatile and rigid E-Bike with three simple steps:

- Step 3: Incorporate electric power
Our frame is designed to house the widely popular components, and can easily be adjusted for the less-common range using 'off the shelves' bushings.
The first step is simply to attach the swing arm (depicted by the blue bars below) to the frame using the provided fastenals.
The second step is to replace your frame with NYX 2015. As shown below, the front fork, rear suspension, seat, front wheel, handlebar, braking system and pedal system of your existing bike will be fitted to the carbon frame.
The conversion process is almost done! The very last step is to install the electrical components in the 16L battery space.
Off the shelves electrical packages are available for any budget and experience level. Our frame is one of the largest available one on the market and will fit anything you throw at it. You can house a range of electrical components for both quality and performance.

Not well versed in mechanics/electrics? We will personally provide assistance during your E-Bike conversion. Comprehensive conversion instructions for our backers will also be made available. Your local bicycle store should be able to assist you on both mechanical/electrics aspect or do the conversion on your behalf.
No budget for electronics? Not a problem, the third step; the electric power can be implemented later. Your bicycle will be fully functional and doubtlessly lighter with the NYX 2015 frame kit.
Option 2 : Start from scratch (Tailored to your needs)
A specific idea in mind ? The frame can also be the platform for your own unique project. The NYX 2015 Frame Kit is remarkably compatible, making it an exceptional tool of development.
Custom E-Bike can range from a regular city bike to a dirtbike. The conversion below is a prototype made by Stéphane Melançon (DoctorBass from endless-sphere.com) using parts from an electric motorcycle. Mr. Melançon broke the world-record for fastest E-Bike in 2009.

Having the motor on the rear wheel allows more space for battery thus increased autonomy. It is also much more convenient for maintenance.
Compatibility / Customization
One frame fits all
The NYX 2015 Frame Kit comes with a variety of options to insure universal compatibility. On the mechanical standpoint, we have made available two steerer diameters, two suspension brackets and a standard seat tube diameter (27.2mm).
The suspensions brackets are designed to rotate, allowing an extra 8 different geometries. The frame can used to re-purpose your bicycle into anything from cross-country to downhill and mountain bike.
The frame's 16L battery space is the holy grail for electrics. It will fit virtually any E-Bike battery configuration. It is designed for flexibility; your battery power can be scaled up as you go. The battery space can even be used as a small cargo area.
What all that space really mean ? Well, it really depends on what are your needs : Do you want to go as fast as possible or as far as possible ? Probably somewhere in between. For example, Stéphane Mélançon has achieved an autonomy of 100km at 45 km/h (on slick tires) and a top speed at 115 km/h with 2kWh of batteries on his NYX 2015's prototype. Each and every NYX 2015 Frame Kit will be CNC machined, individually, using infusion molding for flawless repeatability and quality.
The frame is a marvelous piece of gear that weighs only 6.1kg (13.5lbs) including all the components; swing arm, bushings, suspension brackets, torque arms and fastenals. The swing arms are made of numerically controlled machined aircraft aluminum, a material chosen for the best mechanical properties-to-weight ratio. All aluminum parts are weld free to guarantee a perfectly aligned frame and no possible weak welds.
NYX 2015 Frame Kit can easily accommodate more than 10 kW of power and is designed to withstand the torque and forces implied.
Our design is equipped with torque arms to prevent any failure at the motor axle and swing arms, where most forces are applied. The torque arms will secure your wheel, withstand the torque and efficiently transfer the motor movement with minimal losses. The material used is a thick and highly wear-resistant 1/4" HARDOX 450 steel to prevent the motor axle to tear off or impair movement translation.
Carbon Fiber alone is useless: the fibers need to be mixed with a precise amount of resin. The carefully measured balance between epoxy resin and carbon fiber will allow the fibers to lock into position and sustain major force.
Although the frame is mostly made out of carbon fiber, it must be made flexible to prevent disastrous snapping failures during use. In addition to two thick carbon fiber layers, an insert of fiberglass cloth is added to increase the strength and flexibility.
To prevail against premature wear, the frame has been meticulously upgraded in highly solicited areas. The suspension brackets are reinforced with kevlar layers and an aluminum plate is added inside the frame to cope with forces susceptible to cave the frame in. A high-density polymer spacer is also added under the suspension bracket attach to ensure a smooth force transfer between the rear suspension and the carbon fiber monocoque.

E-Bike are source of leisure, transportation and represent one of the most convenient to travel to the trail or simply form point A to B.
Budget and Timeline
Our current prototypes are created on rented equipment designed for punctual prototyping purposes. Our molds are not ready for anything close to a manufacturing volume.
We need the funds to purchase adequate tooling, exercise high-volume orders on raw materials/components and create the new manufacture-ready molds. These steps are all mostly 'no-brainers', but cannot be accomplished without adequate funding.
Your funds will help us implement a real production setup and give us the ability to bring this product on the market at a realistic price and guaranteed quality.
Our project is well underway and we want backers to understand it will be delivered within the given time frame. However, some projects face problems of packaging/delivery, we decided to go ahead and rule this issue out. We already walked through the whole design of the box and drop test successfully.
This project took root from a passion and a need. Éloi wanted to enjoy late-night dirt biking trips after work. Like most of us, he is not located near offroad trails or anything similar. Whenever he wanted to get into the woods, he had to strap his dirtbike on a trailer, drive a few miles and then ride a circular pathway to return to his car.
When he saw Cédrick on his first electric bicycle, an E-Bike using a normal bike frame and electric components found in the internet with speeds of up to 40 mph, he knew he wanted one too.
It was ideal for his situation. However, he didn't like the fact that the battery packs were located in a backpack. We tried to find an electric bike frame kit and we found nothing suitable for us. Therefore, we combined our forces and developed the first carbon fiber frame kit. To do so, we went through done drafting and prototypes for months to end up with the NYX 2015.
Simon Le Bouthillier has been our marketing advisor for this campaign. By succesfully leading the BI V2.0 KickStarter, he was a candidate of choice to help us on a variety of elements like description, pledges and partners. He will also assist us in areas related to delivery and logistics of the KickStarter.
Risks and challenges
The budget consisted of a few thousand dollars from our personal funds. Bringing the NYX 2015 Frame Kit to you with such a low budget was possible only because of our existing occupations and formations. It is also possible thanks to our many friends/supporter who made available their equipment to us.
One of our major milestone was to develop a molding technique to highlight the carbon cloth in a complex mechanical part like the frame, whilst keeping the mechanical properties. The technique we've developed allowed us to place the carbon fiber tissue in an aesthetic manner without wave or distortion and without cutting the tissue to preserve the strength. After mastering fiber glass molding, we realize the frame would be too heavy. We then mastered molding of carbon fiber which made the frame excellent on a mechanical standpoint. However, it was our know how of infusion molding that brought aesthetic quality of the frame, reaching a very high level of quality in composite materials.
Part of our work was to design a manufacturing process that could realisictly produce large quantities of the frame without impairing the quality. The infusion molding technique, with hand-made molds and pre-cut fiber was part of the solution.
Compatibility and Space:
The shape of the frame is not random, it was part of our tedious study on compatibility and battery space. We investigate a large array of bicycle and listed the standard parts we came across. Our design was based to accommodate the vast majority of those parts. We prototype heavily on battery space to find the best recipe between liter capacity, center of gravity and ergonomics.
Our prototype is in continuous improvement. Our latest prototype is beyond your expectations as it features some more additional subtle features for both a better esthetic and a smoother ride.
