Cheer on these unlikely heroes as they learn to disarm a bully without ever becoming one.
What's our motivation . . .
Four years ago, we responded to the requests of educators and created “Calling All Zeros”, a comedy-based play, which compliments public school character curriculum, by effectively showing students how to overcome bullies without becoming one.
After 4 consecutive fall tours, where we visited a total of 29 schools and performed for over 10,000 students, reviews have been overwhelmingly positive and they want more. So, we have adapted the story into a screenplay.
What's the plan . . .
This campaign is to raise money to fairly compensate the film crew for their time and talents. Thanks to several local film companies, the equipment necessary to capture and preserve this story and message is being donated to us.
Our goal is to break up the story into several 7 to 10 minute episodes, post them weekly this spring on our website, www.nwp.me, (along with downloadable lesson plans) and spread the word to educators all across Middle TN, and ultimately far beyond; many of which we might never be able to visit personally.
What's the message . . .
In the film, the "Zeros", a group of middle schoolers who are bullied, rally together to learn that people who regularly cause others pain are most often in a great deal of pain themselves and that fighting back/retaliating is not the right solution. Mr. Robertson, the school's janitor, and seemingly unlikely voice of wisdom, compares the situation to a dirty floor and urges them not to "throw more dirt on top of it" but to "cover it with something else entirely." One of them suggests "soap", to which Mr. Robertson affirms that "both the floor and the mop are better off when the job's done."
