The New Wilmington Art Association enables artists to work, develop, and think through its creative interventions staged in vacancies.

THE PROJECT

Create expanded cultural energy and activities in Wilmington, DE through the development of public art exhibitions, publications, organizational collaboration and community engagement in 2012 and 2013.

ABOUT US

The NWAA exists as an evolving, mobile labor-of-love, bringing unique creative projects to the City of Wilmington, DE, primarily activating vacant commercial properties. Over the past 4 years we have worked on projects of varying scope - from collaborating with internationally acclaimed artists to developing collaborative projects with area institutions to helping regional and national artists create area exhibitions.

This past year we developed an ongoing artist residency with the Winterthur Museum, informed by their collection, as well as partnered with the Public Allies to envision Wilmington STIR, an ongoing series of "Sunday Soup" micro-granting events which provide a venue for exposure and opportunities for direct funding of creative, community based projects. Active For the Arts, our unique initiative which promotes wellness understanding through cultural programming, will experience substantial growth in the coming year; featuring participants in the Boston Marathon, public discussions, a philosophical investigation of "running" through photographs, inner-city community collaboration and a creative journey made by an area artist traversing the continental United States via bike.

Our mission is to infuse creative energy into the City of Wilmington - in any way we can - and at any level. We have big ideas and we need your help to realize them!

THE FUNDS

As a grass-roots organization, the direct support of individuals are what keeps us operating, existing and growing. The NWAA will utilize the funds generated here to support up to two years of original programming - including public exhibitions, catalogs, community events and receptions, exhibition and curatorial opportunities for artists, site-specific art projects and anything else we can dream up to imaginatively impact our city and region through the arts.

Without your support we can not continue to build upon the creative infrastructure we have developed and share challenging new programming. We hope that you will offer your support of our activities here. Every bit goes a long way.

Our deepest thanks,

The New Wilmington Art Association
