RAVEN NEVERMORE is a 9-part limited comic series set in a bleak and dreary supernatural horror-fantasy setting that tells the origin story of the elite lawman, Corvan Moore, as he faces off against criminals, shifters, fiends, and spirits.
This Kickstarter is for RAVEN NEVERMORE, CHAPTER 2: “TEMPTER SENT”, a 30-page comic that follows Corvan Moore, as he seeks answers regarding what’s happened to his family. He heads down into The Waterways, a complex sewer labyrinth beneath the city. He’ll get some answers down there… the lead to more confusion, questions… and grief.
As Stretch Goals unlock, purchasing subsequent issues will be made available as new Campaign Tiers. Hopefully this provides a unique way to crowdfund, and receive, future issues sooner! Hi, my name is Nuno XEI (pronounced "Shay"). The production of the entire RAVEN NEVERMORE series is complete: The nine issues were released digitally in 2014 - 2015.
What started as a plan to write, and produce, a standard 22-page, six-issue series, totaling 132 pages in 2009, turned into a sprawling 9-issue series, 30 pages each (32 for issue 9), totaling 272 sequential art pages—more than double the original goal!
Alas, the funds ran out and I had to return to the standard "9-to-5 job" to recoup and re-stabilize my life. I don't regret a second of the disruptive, imagination-drenched life-bomb tied to the production of this comic series, not to mention the plethora of other tales that developed in parallel due to world-building the "BREACHSPACE Setting" (the fictional setting in which this story takes place).
The deeper I got into the process of writing the story, the more the fictional setting of BREACHSPACE started to evolve in my thoughts. I envisioned a world that could be the foundation for other stories. I explored these other ideas until 2014 with collaborators in other, shorter comics; in collections of fiction; in single-page comic strips for local, monthly periodicals; and so forth. It goes without saying that this ended up taking on a life of its own!
Now, after a two-year hiatus from both RAVEN NEVERMORE and BREACHSPACE, I'm eager to reach the next milestone in this comic-creating journey!
If these Stretch Goals are met, I can proceed with print production on future issues ahead of schedule. This will ultimately save on shipping and get the series out to supporting Backers sooner than later!
Risks and challenges
One way that I mitigated the risk and challenge was to ensure the entire production of this limited comic series was complete. Production on all nine issues (272 pages and nine covers) that make up this sprawling tale are completely done and ready for print.
I have partnered with a local printer, located just over an hour away from me. This significantly reduced the anticipated production time on issue #1. With the first experience out of the way, I am confident that subsequent production runs will be smooth and efficient.
The first packaging and shipping experience is also now out of the way, with issue 1, and I am confident that future campaign fulfillment will see a reduction in turnaround times. The distribution goal includes a 4-6 week buffer, to account for any other challenges along the way, that could delay the fulfillment process--but I don't anticipate requiring it this second time around.
I will frequently update backers on the campaign status and hope to be as transparent as possible about the experience. If you have any questions or concerns along the way, I will do my best to address them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
