About this project
Final Two Days Target - £13,500
My sincere gratitude to everyone who has backed or shared my project so far - I am delighted with the response. All new pledges will go towards enhancing the finished quality of this publication. With this in mind I have added new rewards where possible to replace those no longer available.
About my Work
My work is concerned with the landscape, the environment and our current relationship to it.
This book will cover a fifteen-year period in which I have developed my ideas.
During this time my working practice has evolved to the point where I only make work within walking distance of my homes immediate surroundings – which has varied between North Wales, London and currently Cornwall although my intention is that my representations stand for nature word-wide regardless.
The work is formed through studies of the changing patterns of nature over a 2-3 year period whilst using a large format camera and film. Whilst the work has been seen on exhibit throughout the world and made its way into important public collections – it has always been my intention to produce a book that shares my visual ideas (with a wider audience).
It will include work from the six series produced in this time – all captured on large format film and printed by hand in the colour darkroom.
The book will be complimented by texts by Brett Rogers (director of the The Photographers' Gallery, London) – whom will write a foreword, an essay by Martin Barnes (senior curator of Photography at the V&A Museum) and also by the novelist Jay Griffiths (author of ‘Wild’ amongst many other published titles).
Included is my latest just completed series ‘The Relentless Melt’ which is a culmination of my search for a clear representation of the inter-relationship of the elements and the essence of the human spirit as well as its relationship to nature.
The first public viewing for this latest edition will be at the 'Unseen' Art fair in Amsterdam this autumn with The Photographers' Gallery.
Design and Publication
Stuart Smith who has an excellent reputation for his distinctive approach will design the book, it will then be printed and bound in cloth by EBS in Italy, a company renowned for their quality and attention to detail in an edition limited to 500 copies only.
The book will be published by GOST the Photography and Visual Arts specialists for worldwide distribution - through Macmillan.
I am aiming to make a book of real quality – with your support we can make it happen.
