Elysian Fields is a Farming Adventure set over a thousand years in the future, where many planets have been destroyed, replaced by mini-planets and black holes. You’ve managed to acquire a Planet Orb (Plorb) all of your own, and now it’s your job to care for it and its inhabitants.
Farm your plorb and care for its occupants, then blast off from planet side life and set sail for a sea of stars and cities. Trade with scattered humans and aliens, fight off space-pirates and discover new worlds. The universe is your oyster.
Elysian Fields is designed with two interacting gameplay styles, a fantasy farming simulator, and a like space RPG. The idea is that some days, you just want to relax and work on something not too stressful in your own time. That's the farming game element. Other days you want to go on adventures, meet people and explore! That is the space RPG element. Elysian Fields combines both of these gameplay elements together, and things you do on one side can benefit the other, and vice versa. We want the game to be as fun and accessible as possible, and in Elysian Fields we aim to give you a vast array of things to do!
Discover new crops and animals across the galaxy, some familiar remnants of old earth and other new and alien species.
Learn to care for your planet's inhabitants, make money and revive long lost produce using a variety of tools at your disposal. Organise your farm and choose what produce and resources you want and need, or work hard to make a profit on the markets.
Plots of land can take on one of six types, four farming specific plots:
- Fields: Grow small crops and bushes like Carrots, Frozen Peas and Purples.
- Orchards: A flat area for growing Apple trees, Bi-nana palms and Starfruit.
- Pens: Small enclosures that hold all manner of Chickens, Cows, Sheep and Pigs.
- Pond: A place for ducks and other water based creatures to relax.
And two utility plots:
- Storage: A large, upgradable storage container to safely store your resources.
- Machine: A utility that can provide additional services to you directly (Such as another trading outpost or a teleporter) or the entire sector.
Collect resources to restore your home planet to its former glory. Unlock new areas with differing geology and climates, to keep all of your crops and animals happy and make them feel at home. Mammoth woolies would much rather prefer the arctic sector to the volcano zone, while binana trees favour a warmer climate, just for some examples.
Craft solutions to uncover new areas of your plorb to better look after your planets occupants, or make your farming a little easier. From bigger fences to automatic feeders, soil monitors to full on automation. Elysian Fields will feature a large list of potential upgrades to its many complex interacting systems.
Set sail for the stars and discover new lands, new species and new possibilities. Maybe you'll uncover secrets of the universe along the way, or maybe you'll just find some cool rocks, who knows?
Help fund your farm with exploration and mining, or uncover treasure and make your fortune as an explorer. It's all up to you.
Complete quests and build up new relationships, unlocking future possibilities and opportunities.
Trade with scattered lifeforms across the expanse of space to uncover new produce and new stories, all whilst adapting to a fluctuating market influenced by your actions.
Go head to head with some of the most fearsome pirates this side of the sun. Fend off attacking drones who may be guarding untold treasures or who just want to start a fight.
Every character and location has a story. Uncover multiple story lines and deep conspiracies that may influence a single life or the collective lives of the entire solar system!
If everything goes better than we hope for, there are a lot of things we want to do with Elysian Fields. We have quite a few stretch goals planned, but our main focus is funding the game and getting it into your hands!
NovaDawn is a very small indie development studio made up of two friends and Computer Science graduates. We've been working on projects together for a couple of years, but we plan on having Elysian fields as our first official release.
If you've read this far down the page, thank you! We appreciate your time, but this is the bit where we get a little serious.
Elysian Fields is our first game, and so far business expenses like the software licences we need, looking after the backups and website, and all of the hours we've put into the game have been supported by our full time jobs.
We've managed so far, but when we start to look into store fees, dev kits and some of the more expensive software we'll eventually need, it's obvious we're going to need a little bit of help to make Elysian Fields what we believe it can be.
Obviously we've come to Kickstarter to get the funds we need, but there's a bigger reason we came to Kickstarter instead of trying to get a loan or find funding through a different method.
We've both backed Kickstarters in the past, and have experienced communities that started on Kickstarter. A big part of our backer Discord and presence on social media is because we want to hear your feedback, and we want to get you involved. We're not always the best at keeping a posting schedule, but we're always excited to show off new features, and want you to come along for the ride.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk we can foresee with Elysian Fields is a delay in the planned release date. In order to support our passion we both have to work full time, and up to now game development has been a hobby for us. A successful Kickstarter would remove some of the stress from our full-time work and let us make Elysian Fields what we believe it can be.
The current delivery time that we've specified is an over estimate and we're hoping to publish Elysian Fields in some form before that date.
NovaDawn is a very small studio, and we've never professionally released a game before, even though we both have experience from game jams and creating other projects. We hope to bring our technical and creative experiences to Elysian Fields, but understand the amount of effort and research we will need to put into polishing the game and bringing it to the market.
