About this project
NOVAC Needs You: Support our Community of Media Makers by Bringing the Best in Web-based Video Creators to New Orleans for Web Weekend 2013.
With web-based video production and distribution in a national boom, local and regional filmmakers are creating video content designed intentionally for distribution on the web, transforming the way we watch movies and episodic programming as a culture. And with more and more local filmmakers creating their own web content, NOVAC is going to do what it does best: bring national talent and expertise to New Orleans, hosting a conference that develops community, networking and learning opportunities for local and regional filmmakers with the Web Weekend 2013 Conference, held at the BioInnovation Center from October 18th - 20th.
Held in partnership with and on the three days following the New Orleans Film Festival, Web Weekend 2013 will consist of panel discussions, masterclasses, and networking opportunities designed to educate media makers and media lovers on the latest trends of video for the web and online distribution. Featuring panelists and mentors like Claire Graves (Managing Director, Webby Awards), Allison Hord (Producer, Funny or Die), Charles Ingram (Writer, Funny or Die), Mark Ganntt (Actor/Producer/Director, The Bannen Way), Angela Tucker (Director/ Producer, Black Folk Don't), Andrew Mer (VP of Content Partnerships, SnagFilms), Mike Tringe (Co-Founder, CreatorUp!) and representatives from Funny or Die and College Humor, Web Weekend is sure to be a success. And to support our community of media makers, at the Web Weekend Think Tank our panelists will join selected local web series creators, to provide them with the critical feedback these series creators need to improve and expand their projects. This conference represents the convergence of filmmaking and the web, and brings expertise from around the country to support Southern media makers. You can bookmark our Web Weekend 2013 page for current details and updates about the conference.
WHERE YOU COME IN: In order to help bring the level of panelists and mentors who have agreed to join us at Web Weekend and to pay for venue rentals and catering, we need your help. By meeting our goal of $5,000 we can bring the top-notch talent to educate and inspire our community of film and media makers that NOVAC has become known for. A successful Web Weekend 2013 will be the groundwork for an annual series of mini conferences and labs/masterclasses that will benefit the regional filmmaking community for years to come. Help us get it started!
WHO'S GOT OUR BACK: NOVAC is grateful to have the support of the City of New Orleans, the Downtown Development District, the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, Louisiana Entertainment.gov, Launchpad, NOLA Tech Week and First NBC Bank to help put on the conference, parties and events, but your help will ensure we make our panelists/mentors/experts as welcome as possible in the Big Easy. Please join our supporters by backing us today!
ABOUT NOVAC: At over 41 years old, NOVAC is the oldest media arts nonprofit in the South and has a mission to cultivate a sustainable film community by providing access to resources, education and locally generated content.
