About this project
WHAT IS IT?
"Notes by Christine" is a modern retelling of Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera. Inspired by "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries" and "Marble Hornets," a new twist on the original tale comes to life on your screens. Christine studies Vocal Music at university and reluctantly gets dragged into the limelight by her friend Meg. Meg needs a subject for her film editing experience and decides Christine and her voice are perfect. However, not everyone is a benign observer. A mysterious stranger begins to help Christine improve, but not without certain bumps in the night to accompany that help. Add to that the haunting of the university’s theater and a reunion with a childhood sweetheart, events take a turn for the extraordinary. Be prepared for the mystery of a lifetime that unfolds before your very eyes, following our heroine every step of the way.
This is the first and fairly ambitious project coming from our group, but there is a wealth of story not told by the musical and we hope that our adaptation reveals new facets of the story. The Phantom of the Opera is well known as a musical; however, many people forget it was based on a book by Leroux with some wonderful characters and grotesque details left out that we will bring to you, dressed up for a modern online audience.

HERE’S WHERE YOU JOIN US IN THE EXPERIENCE
As we’ve said, we are fairly new to the big project venue, so we lack the necessary equipment that would bring the best possible series to life. We are looking to get a better camera, lighting equipment, sound equipment, cosmetics, costuming that our cast cannot provide, and various props. This project holds a place near and dear to our hearts and we are hoping you feel the same and support our dream.
We have already started pre-production and are currently in the middle of writing scripts and hope to be ready to release the first episode in the fall of 2013. We hope that you wonderful folks will help us out so that we have our equipment up and ready for the series. Your help can make a huge impact on the series. In addition to our utmost gratitude, you will receive something even just donating $1! Thank you so much for believing in us and helping us in any way you can!

Risks and challenges
A project of this magnitude is our first, and we will inevitably come across challenges. Our crew members have varying levels of experience, but that means we have many different skills sets to bring to the table. This is also a clash of two worlds, mostly people from two rival Florida universities, but brought together by a common love of film and creativity.
If our project is successfully funded, some problems our project might have include: composing original pieces, scheduling around the busy lives of college students, and creating the horror of the Phantom. BUT by problems, we mean challenges we are excited to take on.
We already have a composer working on the music, but we have a multitude of ex-band kids on speed dial should we need to pull more resources. Scheduling is no stranger to us, but with nearly 20 cast and crew it's going to be...fun. We are already planning the schedule through December and creating an alternate crew should we run into any issues. We're willing to work days on end without sleep while still attending classes and clubs. Make, no mistake WE ARE DEDICATED TO THIS PROJECT. And regarding the "horror of the Phantom," we don't want to give away too much... Let's just say it'll be something you have to see yourself and we'll keep tweaking it until even we start to cringe.
We know there will be setbacks and issues, but that is what makes the film process so unique and dear to us. The process is continuously changing and we might end up with a better product than we anticipated because we had to work around our problem. BUT until our project is funded, we're relying on you to help us get to the other production issues!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Well, there are a lot of things they're going to, but here's a brief list:
- Camera (2 if we have enough)
- Camera Dolly System
- Boom Microphone/Shotgun Microphone
- Boom Pole
- Boom Blimp
- Light Stands
- Lighting Gels
- Editing Program
- Costume Pieces the cast doesn't have: Mask for Erik, Ballet Shoes for Meg, Masks for
Masquerade, Masquerade Costumes, whatever else might come up.
- Makeup: Both natural and special effects
- Props: Piano, Punjab Lasso, Roses, Breakable Glass, Mirrors, etc.
- Renting a space for the lair (if needed)
- Renting whatever equipment we couldn't afford to buy
- Food/Drinks for the cast and crew. We're working at least 8 hour days on and off for a year and
no one is being paid, the least we could do is keep them alive.
Hopefully, September 2013 and on Youtube. But it might be delayed if we aren't funded just so we have enough time to figure out how to get everything we need.
