Stitches - A Card Game of Monstrous Proportions

$16,480

523

Stitches is a fast-paced, semi-competitive card game for 3 to 7 players. Each player starts off as a reanimated body (à la Frankenstein's monster) and upgrades their body parts by attacking other players or scavenging from a central market, trying to become strong enough to defeat the Abomination.

  • Communicate as a monster, grunting and growling your limited vocabulary
  • Eye-catching art for each of the starting humans, the six monsters, and the four Abominations, illustrated by Kyle Ferrin (Vast: The Crystal Caverns
  • An easy-to-learn but surprisingly deep Rock-Paper-Scissors combat mechanic
  • Plays in 20 to 30 minutes, making it an engaging and humorous opener or an evolving game over multiple rounds
  • Lead other monsters in battle against the Abomination or try to take it on by yourself
  • Family-friendly: kids love the art and pick up the combat quickly because everyone knows Rock-Paper-Scissors

After a decade of gaming together, three years ago we decided to try our hand at making games. We’ve always been rabid consumers of new titles, but since we’ve been designing and developing our products our consumption has become more focused. We hunt down anything tangentially related to the games we’re making, old and new, to see how others have approached a theme or a mechanic, and to discover how they try to solve the common problems of board games. Playing games through the designer lens has changed how we approach every game we play and has taken our hobby and turned it into a passion.

Doug grew up suffering through many a family game night, tantalized by the possibilities of classic games but often disappointed by the realities of their mechanics. After a decade or so where video games took precedence, he returned to board gaming and found that a new world of better games existed. Now working in math education and creative writing, Doug still craves the rich gaming experiences that board games promise, but he wants those experiences packaged into manageable chunks of time, with interesting choices and streamlined rules, so no one need suffer.  You can follow him on Twitter @dirgeoverdrive.

Jason has been playing games ever since his dad brought a Compaq PC home and showed him Lunar Lander. Designing games and meeting other players and creators has been a fantastic experience. When he's not busy chasing after his two boys, he does a variety of business stuff as a consultant. If he were a monster he would be a cockroach, because those suckers can live through anything. You can follow him on Twitter @jasonerankin.

Our master illustrator Kyle most recently illustrated Vast: The Crystal Caverns. Check out his work at kyleferrin.bigcartel.com and follow him on Twitter @d20plusmodifier.

Special thanks to all of our families for putting up with and helping us along with our crazy dreams. Thanks also to Scott of Black Spot and Nacime for their extraordinary help with the videos.

Risks and challenges

Stitches is Norwester Games’ first Kickstarter project, but we’ve been doing our homework. We’ve read all of Jamey Stegmaier’s and James Mathe’s blog posts, have spoken to and connected with numerous other successful creators online and in person, and have been testing Stitches for over a year. Our graphic design is 90 percent complete, and Kyle will be working to quickly finish up any stretch-goal art that you unlock. We’re working with established manufacturers and fulfillment partners and are confident that we will deliver on this project.

That being said, it’s still our first time doing this, and anytime you’re manufacturing and shipping a physical product, unforeseen delays can occur. Our promise to you is that if we do run into issues, we will do everything we can to resolve them as quickly as possible and, just as importantly, let you know what’s happening. We have a whole bunch of other game ideas that we’re excited to design, develop, build, and release into the world. It would just be stupid to lose you as a customer for all of those future games because we didn’t tell you about a possible delay. We take your trust in us as creators very seriously.

Not to mention, the whole reason we’re doing this is to see people play our games! We have these fantastic monsters that are just begging to play with all of their new friends, and we want nothing more than to get them in your hands so they can do just that.
