Welcome to the launch of the newest North Drinkware product: The Mt. Hood Blanket. We’ve created a unique design inspired by the USGS geology map of Mt. Hood, celebrating the inspiring rock and ice formations of the mountain in a contemporary graphic design. We’ve partnered with heritage brand Pendleton Woolen Mills to produce the blanket in their Oregon mill, using their 155 years of history and expertise to create this intricately woven wool blanket.
The launch of North Drinkware and The Oregon Pint in 2015 gave us and our community a new way to connect with the mountains that we love. The Mt. Hood Blanket represents the beginning of a new phase for North as we expand beyond drinkware into other parts of your life, enabling you to bring the mountains home in new ways.
The design of The Mt. Hood Blanket offers a rich and technical story. The variety of grayscale tones woven into the blanket define the geologic features of the mountain. The lightest shades represent the current glaciers and perennial snow fields, while the darker tones show the glacial deposits and various types of volcanic deposits and flows that make up Oregon’s highest peak at 11,250ft. The detailed topographic lines of Mt. Hood are woven into the blanket every 200ft of elevation with bold lines every 1,000ft.
The commitment to locally produced products is thriving in the Pacific Northwest. Over the past three years producing glasses and accessories we have been honored to be a part of the local maker community. Our dedication to making quality goods in Oregon is stronger than it has ever been. Pendleton Woolen Mills is a pioneer in Oregon craft manufacturing, whose Oregon weaving history dates back 155 years. Family-owned and operated for more than six generations, the uniquely American story of Pendleton Woolen Mills continues today. By backing this project you are supporting North Drinkware, an Oregon-based brand and our network of craftspeople who produce, sell, and distribute our products. Everything offered in our rewards, from The Mt. Hood Blanket, to our the Oregon Smoke glasses, to the packaging that they are shipped in is all produced here in Oregon.
We designed our blanket to work with Pendleton’s jacquard weaving process. The wool is sourced from the highest quality sheep and is processed, dyed, and finished from end to end by Pendleton in the Pacific Northwest.
Using a process called pick and pick, the jacquard weaving loom blends two colors of yarn to achieve the range of colors in the blanket. This process produces the inverse of the design on the back of the blanket.

Risks and challenges
There are always risks in making a new product, but we’ve done our homework and feel confident that we will deliver a quality product on time. Since the successful fulfillment of our first Kickstarter project, The Oregon Pint, we have refined our production, warehousing, and shipping operations and now have a 3-year track record of successful operations. Pendleton Woolen Mills has a long history of successful and professional production, and have been great partners through our design and sampling phase. If our Kickstarter project is successfully funded (fingers crossed!) we are well prepared to execute and deliver.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
