The Smart Parka is made in two layers. The outer layer can be worn in normal winter temperatures in most parts of North America. The coat's inner lining can be attached in extreme weather.
North Aware uses a proprietary synthetic insulation in the outer shell and white duck down (10% feather) in the inner lining. Duck down, despite being very warm and light, absorbs moisture and loses many of its insulating properties when wet. Therefore we used synthetic insulation in the outer shell. In extreme conditions, attach the inner down-filled lining for more warmth.
Women Classic features a thinner and silkier fabric. Women Expedition has a more sturdy and thicker fabric, which is more common in traditional parkas. Additionally, there are differences in design such as additional outer pockets on the Classic.
Classic for Men and Vogue for Men are very similar and both incorporate all the "smart" features, with the difference being in the design elements. The Vogue features leather accents and a contemporary design, which makes you stand out. The Classic embodies a more traditional look, suited for a professional setting.
The coats are designed in Canada and we hope to manufacture them here too. If we get Kickstarter pledges for at least 7,000 coats, they will be "Made in Canada." If our pledges are fewer than that, the parkas will be manufactured in Vietnam. No matter where our coats are made, the high standards we have set for the North Aware Smart Parka will not be compromised.
Yes. Our only coat with leather trim is the Vogue for men model. To exclude the parka's leather gloves, choose the "no gloves" option when placing your order. You can also ask us not to include the inner lining to avoid duck down (please note that this will make the coat less warm in extreme weather).
