Monster in the Woods is a competitive card game that uses a new 4x4 face down grid mechanic in a world filled with monsters.

Living in LA, you randomly run into so many creative people. Last year, I had the happen chance meeting with Andy, part of the Brazilian team that makes the board game Zombicide; and Elan Lee, the creator of the card game Exploding Kittens. I had known that because of Kickstarter we are in a massive rebirth of tabletop games; however, actually meeting people who make these games really inspired me. Plus, both of them flat out told me to go and make my own game.
Less than a year later, Monster in the Woods was born.
I gave myself three rules when designing Monster in the Woods.
1. Card game
Although it would certainly be cool to have miniatures, fantastic boards, wooden counters, and dice, all of these things add to the complexity of the manufacturing. I restricted the design to only cards for the sake of simplicity.
2. Kid Friendly
I wanted to make a game for all ages and a theme that would relate to everyone. So I designed the game to feel like a fairy tale, but set in contemporary time. The theme of the game is a reflection of that vision.
3. Interactive Gameplay
Tabletop games give us a reason to hang out with our family and friends. The focus of this game is on bluffing and reading other players. Although the mechanics themselves are simple, the complexity of the gameplay is the interactivity between players.

To win the game (1) have Mei and a Door at the start of your turn, or (2) be the last surviving player.
Gameplay consists of searching for the winning combination of cards and manipulating the movement of objectives. Action cards allow you to look at another player's hand, skip another player's turn, or steal a blind card from another player. Event cards force other players to give up objectives and reshuffle cards.

Risks and challenges
Fortunately, fulfilling a successfully backed card game on Kickstarter is simple. You order a print run from the factory in China, and send them out as soon as they arrive. Since I already have a prototype in hand, I don't expect any major problems with the manufacturing.
If this campaign really takes off and there's a massive tidal wave of backers, it might present a challenge. However, I'll use a reliable fulfillment distribution company. I've kept this campaign as simple as possible to avoid any messy or complicated problems.
