ONE-TIME PRINT OF ONLY 500! 97 LEFT!
The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge . . .
In the vast corpus of short stories in literature, few are as chilling as Edgar Allen Poe's The Cask of Amontillado. We wanted to take this story and put it on the face of playing cards.
As card collectors, we love decks that are off the beaten path; there's just something fun about a unique and hand-made deck with a small print. This deck will have a one-off print of only 300. After that, no more will ever be printed. We may expand the print to 500 if demand far exceeds the limited quantity, as we have done once before, but certainly no more than this. Each deck will be numbered accordingly.
Once the project is complete in August, we will have the decks in peoples' mailboxes by December, and likely much earlier, however we like to play it safe and will put December as our absolute deadline.
We were lucky to enlist the talents of Kellie Hawks, a local Portland artist, in designing this deck. Starting from the text itself, The Cask of Amontillado, Kellie made fifty five paintings by hand, and we adapted them onto the playing cards. What you get is a totally unique and diverse deck. While number cards are often the B-sides of a deck, Amontillado's are put front and center, each with a unique and colorful design. On top of it all, the original artwork for each card is available as a reward or as an add-on.
At the end of the first week, we'll post the diamonds, then the spades, then the clubs, then the aces.
The Deck. Each reward includes at least one deck. In addition to fifty four unique cards, the tuckbox comes is sealed with our custom 'No Reply' label, and every deck is numbered. Add a deck (with wood certification card) to any reward for $12.
Wood certification cards. With the exception of the lowest pledge, every deck comes with a wood certification. We have made these cards in the past and they've always been a big success. This deck will feature cherry cards, certifying your deck's place in the one-time print of 300.
Original artwork. All fifty five pieces of artwork hand-painted by artist Kellie Hawks are available. These pieces are 7.5" by 5" and are über-spectacular. When you pledge for an original piece of artwork, please shoot us a message to let us know which you want, and we'll track the claimed ones here. Add a piece of original Amontillado art to any reward for $25, heck, add a few! (Black Joker, Seven of Hearts, Queen of Hearts, Three of Spades, and Back Design taken.)
Prototype Deck. We have printed twenty decks early to assure everything is ready for the print. Each prototype deck comes with one entirely unique card (each prototype deck has its own), found nowhere else in the universe. You'll have to add a prototype deck to any reward for $18 to find our what your's is! We'll make note if we run out.
Third joker. Holy guacamole, what's that? We will be designing a third joker which incorporates characters from all four of our decks: Royal Dinosaur, Songs of Experience, Deck of Cards (which was never made because of a cease-and-desist order, hashtag whoops), and now Amontillado. If you supported us in one of these past campaigns, we'll include a third joker free in every one of your decks. For everybody else, you can add a third joker to any of your decks for $2 a piece.
Roses joker. We're introducing a fourth joker: the Roses Joker. This card celebrates our hometown Portland, Oregon, the city of roses with another spooky design. You can add one to your deck for $2 a piece.
