Project Update XV: UPDATE YOUR ADDRESS! Second 500 batch shipping! Parties!

Posted by Lisa Q. Fetterman (Creator)

Dear awesome backers,

Thank you so much for being the wind at our backs, our operations have been going smoother thanks to your thoughtful feedback. Below are our latest updates!

Second 500 batch:

We’re happy to announce our second batch of 500 120V units are shipping out on Monday. Once they pass US customs it takes 2-5 days to process before they come to the doors of backers who got in by July 18th. Monday night is the LAST CHANCE you have to update your shipping address to Patrick@Nomiku.com if you are a 120V Nomiku backer! If you plan on moving or don't have a permanent address, let Patrick know and we can hold your order for you. Don't worry-- your Nomiku will be at the warehouse when we release your order so you don't have to wait for the next shipment. If you have to change your address after Monday and your Nomiku has gone through processing, please note that this may incur an extra charge ( :-( our shipping overlords do not cut us any slack).

240V Update:

We are going back and forth with CE regarding a new powerboard. We submitted four last week and they have been sent back today for revision and review. The major challenge we face now with CE is the required EMI (electromagnetic interference) testing. We need to reduce the peak noise level further in order to pass, and this requires identifying the root cause and creating an alternative implementation or creating an EM (electromagnetic) filter. We are running frequent diagnostic tests to get this issue resolved as fast as possible. This is our top development priority at this time.

#MyFirstNom:

We are so excited to see what you are cooking! It has been a joy to gawk at unboxing pictures and the first dishes to come out of your water bath. Please post your pictures and videos on our FB page, or holla at us on Twitter and Instagram @eatnomiku with #MyFirstNom. Participating in your first meal made with Nomiku via the internets makes our insides feel like sunshine and it inspires others who are thinking about what to cook. Here are some great #MyFirstNom moments:

Backer parties and pop-up fun!:

Lastly, but not least, the SF Kickstarter Backer party is set to go on Wednesday, October 16! There will be delicious sous vide hors d’oeuvres, adult refreshments, dancing, and demos. We have sent backers who live in SF and within a one-hour drive of the city an invitation, please let us know if you haven’t received one or if you’re in another city but will serendipitously be in town to join us on the 16th.

Tomorrow we are having a sous vide demo and throwdown at Sebo in Hayes Valley! Two chefs will compete to win your stomachs starting at 1pm. The Nom team will be there from 10am to 5pm serving up perfect 64°C eggs.

Our parties in cities you voted on will roll out steadily; we aim to get our nom on with our Seattle and LA backers by the end of this year!

Dedicated,

Lisa, Abe, and Bam

Hi just wondering if there is any update on the 240V model? Many thanks and keep up the great work.

Sorry for the confusion double Dave. What a bummer you didn't have it for the 'rents. Happy to hear about your l33t hax0r skills though.

@Douglas, I was also confused about that. Patiently waiting for so long and then super excited that I'd have my Nom the next time I visited the 'rents and it wasn't there! One last styrofoam-cooler-sous-vide-cooked lamb steak tonight for posterity then. Cant wait to upgrade my technique :-)

Yes Douglas. I'm sorry I thought announced it on Kickstarter as well, but I see I only said it on FB. Our shipping house made a typo and the second batch covers all of those who backed by July 13th, not July 18th as I originally typed in the update. The good news is all 120V orders should be flown in Oct 15th.

Hey @Lisa maybe you should inform the rest of the backers that the second batch is really for those who backed by July 13th and not 18th?

Hey @Jon, look it got cleared up: "For those folks asking about the long-awaited Nomiku, well the makers decided not to send me a tester model when I told them I was planning on testing and writing about the Anova at the same time. Hopefully I'll get my hands on one through different means so we can make it happen within the next few weeks."

But we are sending them one next week.

@Jon, It sure is! What an unfortunate paragraph, especially since I have offered Kenji a Nomiku for exactly a three-way comparison. Not sure why he would write that, I am very curious to see how exactly Nomiku stacks up against our other friendly competition from an objective journalist. I'm confident we will clear up this misunderstanding in the future.

@William: We go through Shipwire so it could be any of the three. It will likely be UPS, the majority of Noms seem to be arriving that way.

this is bad press: "For those folks asking about the long-awaited Nomiku, well the makers decided not to send me a tester model when I told them I was planning a three-way comparison. Hopefully I'll get my hands on one through different means so we can make it happen within the next few weeks."

What shipping method is being used? USPS? FedEx? UPS? I'm curious to know, because I might want to change my shipping address if it's not USPS (they can put it in the package lockbox in my community; FedEx or UPS might be easier to receive at my office).

Hi Lisa! I'd like to confirm I'm on this batch, as I backed fairly late on the 18th. Very excited, and planning on doing Kenji's porchetta for turkey day this year.

    12. Daniel Morales on

Do you have any info on the parties in other cities? I bought one for my mom and she's in New Orleans, but I live in Chicago, so she'd have double the incentive to visit for the Chicago Nomiku party. I could attend for her, of course, but it would be cool if she had time to plan out a trip. Just a thought. Great work so far! You're almost done with fulfillment!

    13. Lisa Q. Fetterman 2-time creator on

Of course he can Andros, this means you will forgo your ticket for your city when we roll around. Shoot us an email at info@nomiku.com with details and we'll forward it along.

my brother is in the area, can he attend the backer party instead of me?

This is so going to be like Iron Chef! :)

    16. Lisa Q. Fetterman 2-time creator on

Sure! The votes will be tallied on Twitter and FB. I will definitely post lots of nommy pics. Sorry you're so far away Mark. The Nom will grow strong and make our way to you.

Are you going to video the throw down so we can watch it?
