Experience the Nomad Chair
During the Kickstarter campaign, the Nomad Chair has been travelling to Design Junction in Milan and New York. Now we just got it back to Copenhagen. You can see and test it at Dansk Furniture Store in Istedgade. This is how we delivered it to the shop:
The Nomad Chair
With love and respect for the Roorkhee chair and Kaare Klints `Safari chair`, Sebastian Jorgensen has spent years to create his own interpretation of the chair. He has finally created a worthy contender -The Nomad Chair. Now, we invite the World to help us bring a new classic to life, while setting an example against overproduction in the furniture industry.
The Nomad Chair is a true field chair that can be assembled or dissembled in a matter of seconds. The furniture parts are made from turned bamboo, which gives a lightweight, exceptionally strong and very comfortable chair. Highly portable and perfect for the modern nomadic lifestyle.
Change the furniture industry with us!
We all need chairs, beds, cupboards and shelving. All those furniture we use every day. However, during the last 30 years the furniture industry has entered an unsustainable ’throwaway’ culture, where overproduction is the norm and consumers use furniture as seasonal fashion items.
Crowdfunding could be the solution to produce the right batches and reduce waste to zero. We need your and Kickstarter’s help to change the unhealthy throwaway culture and create a beautiful, sustainable and lasting design item.
We need your help to make the Nomad Chair and show a good example to the furniture industry.
The Nomad Chair is made in the same color tones as the 19th century Roorkhee chair, and the first three available colors are Khaki, Blue and Green.
Stretch Goals - New Colors!
We are unlocking new colors, when we reach the following targets:
Design and aesthetics
In line with Scandinavian design tradition, the Nomad Chair is designed with an eye for detail. Practical and useful, without aesthetic compromise. The canvas and leather straps will adjust to the individual sitting and remain balanced on uneven surfaces. Prepare to explore the chairs many small and subtle details.
The leather armrest are carved into the legs. An elegant finish that ensures the armrest are tight when in use and flexible during transport.
Symmetric leather straps tightened together with a belt binds the chair for perfect seating.
A leather belt with a belt buckle made of brass, tightens the backrest according to individual preference.
The chair is assembled in 7 easy steps.
The Nomad Chair includes: 2 * Armrest pieces 2 * Forelegs 2 * Backlegs 1* Backcanvas 1* Sittingcanvas 1* Leather belt with brass bucket
Sustainability and The Nomad Chair
The Nomad chair is made using sustainable materials. The wooden parts are made of certified moso bamboo, one of the most sustainable natural resources in the world. It is the only woody plant that can keep up with human consumption and deforestation. Bamboo is a fast growing grass and reaches maturity in about four years versus 10-20 years for most softwoods (pine, cedar) and 40-80 years for hard woods (asch, oak ,teak).
We work exclusively with certified plantations. This guarantee that our bamboo is grown without chemicals, pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. All leather and canvas fabrics produced without the use of harmful chemicals, such as chromium tanning and unnatural dyeing.
Designer Sebastian Jørgensen
Sebastian is the designer behind We Do Wood. As a trained furniture- and cabinetmaker, Sebastian is an experienced craftsman. However, Sebastian’s understanding of design originally comes from the world of art, which creates a different approach than most. Sebastian’s design process is a bit like painting: he usually make a sketch and goes directly to the workshop to make 1:1 mock ups and prototypes. The designs are made in the workshop located in Copenhagens North Harbor, under strict supervision from Sebastians dog Nelly.
We Do Wood
We Do Wood is a small furniture design company based in Copenhagen, Denmark. We create furniture based on the vision that eminent design and strict sustainability principles should go hand in hand. We believe that a piece of furniture is a success when it invites usage and does not require explanation. Sustainability is our very foundation, all our furniture is made from handpicked sustainable materials and build to last.
“One of the happiest moments I had as a designer was seeing the Lily chair in a second hand store. Seeing the chair getting ready for a new life, I knew that it was a quality piece of furniture”, WeDoWood Designer Sebastian Jørgensen.

Risks and challenges
This project is very different from the existing works of We Do Wood. Both in terms of craftsmanship and materials. Yet, the Nomad Chair sticks to the fundamental sustainability principles of We Do Wood.
When working with turned wood or other woody materials, quality and accuracy is essential. There is no 'quick fix' if one part is out of specification. There is a risk of production delays if our preferred workshops are not able to deliver the right quality of the turned parts, however we do have very good experience in this field.
Another challenge is the canvas and leather work, which we have only gained some experience with during the prototyping phase of the Nomad Chair. We have found that the quality of thickness of the materials must be very accurate, and we have started sourcing for the optimal materials, without compromising our sustainability principles.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
