A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
About this project
The Nodez. Nodez makes it easy to connect the things in your physical world to the Internet. You can monitor, control, automate, and have fun with them from anywhere - at home, the office, or on the go. Connected home for families, travelers, workaholics, homebodies, grandparents, moms, dads, kids, friends, roommates, neighbors, everyone. Begin automating your home for a safer and more comfortable life with Nodez, the neat, smart home product family.
There are two paths to creating a new scenario: The Easy Peasy and The Creator Mode. At the Easy Peasy level, you can choose a scenario from a ready made list using the Nodez App with full access to existing triggers and available actions. At the Creator level, you are creating and exposing a scenario for the physical world of non-smart devices enabling them to plug into the digital one and become smart. Smart fun, creativity, and comfort; these are what we are talking about. This is simple and requires no technical knowledge.
Take nodes out of the box, open your Nodez app, and setup in seconds, literally. If you want to customize the Nodez by creating scenarios, (the automation relationships), that's really simple to do as well. Every Nodez family needs a Hub, which helps facilitate quick and easy set-up and runs the chose scenarios. Place nodes where you need them no need for installation. Nodez will keep your home safe and make life easier.
Alexa is Amazon's mighty cloud-based voice service. No need to reinvent the wheel, as a voice assistant, she’s the best, and most affordable. So Nodez will work with her. With the Nodez's Amazon Alexa integration, you can rule your physical world through your voice. Yeah, it's cool!
Nodez is made affordable by cutting out the middlemen, unnecessary distributors, and getting rid of ridiculously high margins. We'd rather provide affordable smart home solutions to all instead of high priced solutions to the rich.
The Hub. It never sleeps. Its job is to facilitate communication between nodes and store your scenarios so that they do what you want. The hub gets to know the other Nodez by simply tapping each Node to the hub. This is called near field communication, or NFC. Just a fancy way of saying gettin' close. The hub has a backup battery and can be store your scenarios on it. This means it can work even in a power outage or when your internet connection lost. The built-in secured Wi-Fi connection has military grade encryption which prevents would-be intruders from controlling your nodez.
Several sensors come together for a serious purpose: they've got you covered. In the case of an emergency like increasing carbon monoxide levels in your bedroom, smoke from your fireplace or motion in the middle of the night, Nodez Guard flashes its lights, sounds the alarm and sends alerts to the phones of anyone who needs to know. It can distinguish between smoke and steam so it wont bother you while cooking tasty meals.
Nodez Guard is not only used for protection, creating scenarios is also fun. Imagine walking into the living room and turning on the lights via Nodez Sockets or dimming the lights to exact levels by using the light sensor in Nodez Guard!
The Nodez Plug. Control the lighting, a fan, your portable heater, coffee maker, aquarium pump or any other device which has a plug and works below 1800W. Switch on, switch off, schedule or add a reminder if it has been ON for some time. Also, there is a 5V USB Socket for charging phones, tablets etc. Yes, the USB is also controllable.
Screw in a dimmable LED, halogen or incandescent light bulb. Now, it can be controlled from your bed, while you're out of the house, from overseas, or even International Space Station,(yeah, they've got an internet connection too:)). Use the Nodez Socket to mimic the sunrise at dawn, switch off the lights if nothing is stirring not even a mouse. Schedule it for specific times of the day. If there's nobody at home, the lights can be switched on randomly, so it deters thieves by acting like the house is occupied.
Do you often forget where you put that darn remote control? No worries, mate! The Nodez Remote can control all devices via IR(Infrared) and RF, so it's combines all of your remotes in one and all are now controllable from your smartphone. There are already gazillions of popular devices whose "remote controllers" IR codes are open-sourced. This means we were able to pre program them into your Nodez Remote, so most of the time you won't have to do anything, just chose your device from the app. Place this node in the same area with the device that you want to control remotely, choose it from the Nodez App's ready device list, and start to control the device. If your device is not listed on the Nodez App, teach it to the Nodez Remote by pushing its remote control's buttons. Teaching might not be as quick as choosing the device from the app, but it's still an awesome way to control your less-popular remote control.
At the weather gets cold pipes can freeze and burst and flood the basement and ruin your stuff. To get notified about the water leakage, the Nodez Flood Sensor is the hero that helps you keep places dry, even in a power outage. If you left the water on to fill the tub with water, don't worry about flooding the bathroom. The Nodez Guard will sound an alarm and also notify you through your smart home.
The Nodez OpenClose Sensors alert you if the burglar uses the doors or windows to get in. Also, it's great for monitoring the sensitive areas like your passport drawer, a safe, a medicine cabinet, your cleaning supply storage, your gun safe, a jewelry box etc. You'll get notified when the rain or wind are headed your way and can make sure all of your windows are safely secured.
Turns on/off devices, activates scenarios, arms, disarms or silence alarms, controls lighting or can even tweet something. Lots of use-cases are possible with this little thing. For example, give it to your elderly loved ones, they push the Nodez Button when they need help and if you'd like an alarm will sound or you'll get notified via Nodez App. You can also set it up so multiple text messages and emails go out to whomever you'd like so everyone will know if your nana needs help.
This tiny node has temperature, humidity and an ambient light sensor. It helps you by giving you more details about the place you care about most. This can be a cute baby's crib, the cabinet that you keep leather stuff in, temperature sensitive food pantries or even a humidor for expensive cigars. The Nodez Ambient Sensor can also be used for adjusting lighting via the Nodez Socket. You can automatically dim the lights to keep ambient light to the exact level with a single, simple scenario created on the Nodez App. Customizing your lighting can change your mood, help improve sleep, and even increase productivity.
The nodes have removable adhesive mounts to place them vertically. Also, the Nodez Guard has a screwable attachment to attach it tothe wall.
Nodez’s many features and affordability are made possible by the fresh, highly optimized IoT technology at the heart of the system: Bluetooth 5. The Nodez are armed with Nordic Semiconductor's flagship Bluetooth Low Energy system-on-chip(SoC) nRF52840. It delivers a perfectly customized degree of power usage that allows Nodez's compact, long life battery-powered design without compromising quality of features. More details about the SoC can be found on Nordic Semiconductor's website.
The nRF52832 BLE SoC combines its ARM processor with a 2.4GHz multiprotocol radio featuring -96 dB RX sensitivity, 512 kB Flash memory, 64 kB RAM and NFC-A tag for “Touch-to-Pair” capability.
And finally, there is no need for radio repeaters, amplifiers, and extra hubs. With the Bluetooth Low energy mesh networks, nodez that are far away from the hub will be connected via jumping over the other nodez that are in range of the hub.
The Bluetooth enabled Nodez means these devices communicate with each other off the Internet. Apple's HomeKit and other hubs also operate in this way. Only the hub goes through the Internet in a highly encrypted channel, so this concept makes the Nodez more secure.
Tap to pair, job done! "The pairing over NFC is the most secure option available by completing the pairing process and encryption key exchange entirely Out of Band (OOB) at 13.56MHz where NFC operates. The very limited range that is inherent to NFC, typically mm to a few cm, means it is next to impossible to eavesdrop without becoming apparent to the user." as Jonh Leonard from Nordic said. There is a explanation video about NFC pairing by the Nordic Semiconductor.
We keep everything up to date by Over-the-air(OTA) updates. Hackers are getting more sophisticated. Hackers can easily exploit the most minuscule of openings in your security protocols found in software that hasn't been updated.
We use 128-bit AES encryption for communication between nodez and the hub inside your home. In order to allow you to control and monitor your home from anywhere, your data is processed anonymously in the cloud. We used TLS1.2 encryption with user authentication between your home and the cloud to ensure the highest level of security and privacy. So, we've done everything possible to make your system safe.
We set out to design Nodez to adhere to minimalism while being aesthetically pleasing and cool. We wanted these devices, which you can place anywhere in your home, to add beauty by accessorizing it. During the design phase we emphasized ease of use and ergonomic design. We went with a internationally recognized and award winning design team, Kunter and Ozum, and believe they really came through for us.
We currently have working prototypes of the key hardware and software components of the Nodez that you are backing as part of this Kickstarter project, including the hub, nodes and the mobile app.
For us to live a more connected and comfortable life, our living spaces need to be smart and connected. Everyone deserves to live in such spaces. We believe that people shouldn't be forced to spend exorbitant amounts of money to achieve this. We also didn't want our backers to have a bad user experience just because our devices were affordable. We want to make "the smart home" accessible and enjoyable for all. We also realize that a "smart home" means different things to different people. To some it might mean knowing the temperature of your baby's crib to ensure it's comfort while to others it might mean a fully automated lighting system in your house. To answer the call of all consumers, we designed a fully customizeable solution. In order to insure all of these aspects come to life, we need the Kickstarter community's feedback and support. Please share with us what you'd like your Nodez to do for you. In order to make Nodez more affordable for everyone, we need your support.
Risks and challenges
To be honest, when designing and manufacturing a new product, there are always various difficulties, unexpected setbacks. We created our timeline by accounting all these difficulties. We have an experienced team who designed and manufactured several consumer electronics before, and we have partners who can help us overcome the challenges. Nodez's key software and hardware components are prototyped. You can be sure we will promptly inform you about unexpected things that happen. We will do our best to bring Nodez to you in time, in line with your support. Thank you!
