Dan Brereton’s GIANTKILLER Monster Edition Hardcover
An over-size, expanded hardcover collection of the classic American Kaiju Epic
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Thu, March 7 2019 9:15 PM UTC +00:00.
Hi! I'm Dan Brereton, creator of GIANTKILLER, a graphic novel inspired by the love I share with my kids for Japanese monsterfilms. As my obsession with "daikaiju" grew, the concept for a story took shape:
A cosmic event sparks an invasion of giant monsters in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the only effective weapon the military possesses to combat them is a hybrid soldier sharing both Human and Daikaiju DNA.
I wanted to paint a comic book epic about giant monsters beating the tar out of each other and wreaking havoc, but also explore the catastrophic effects of such an event on the area of Northern California where I grew up, in the shadow of Mount Diablo.
I began sketching and plotting what would become my obsession for the next two years. As the character of Jack (affectionately named" Yochu" by his creators) began to take shape, so did rogue Special Agent Jill Sleet.
The by-product of emerging storyline resulted in the development of enough menacing new Daikaiju to fill an entire FIELD GUIDE TO BIG MONSTERS. Not only does the FIELD GUIDE figure into the story itself, a separate bonus issue #0 came out of it as a happy result.
Making GIANTKILLER happen was one of the great storytelling experiences I've ever had. I take great pleasure in bringing it back, adding to the story, and presenting it in a larger format as always intended.
To quote Maurice Sendak, "Let the wild rumpus start!"
A MONSTROUS HARDCOVER
To mark the 20 years since the first issue of GIANTKILLER hit the stands, we present a whopping 240-page, 8.5x12.5 inch Hardcover Monster Edition with expanded story content, Galleries of Concept Art and the work of several Guest Artists, along with a few surprises we hope to bring to light as the book is funded. I'll need your enthusiasm and support to make it happen the way it should be done: BIG!
- We're talking a hardcover graphic novel over 20% larger than comic book size, to really let the bombastic, fully-painted story come to life in your hands.
- I will be adding brand-new story pages in the form of an epilogue scene to the tale, as Jack and Jill reunite for a new mission!
- An expanded Concept Gallery of sketches and art taken from my sketchbooks
- A Rogues Gallery of Guest Artists who love monsters as much I do, masterfully depicting the world and characters of GIANTKILLER.
- And with your help—a LOT more. (here's a hint: there's always room for more monsters, and more surprises)

ADDITIONAL ENHANCMENTS UNLOCKED:
-Full color illustrated end papers to all books
-Foil stamping on cover of all books
In addition to physical enhancements for the book like foil stamping, and full-color illustrated end papers, I have plans to embark on a project-within-the-project:
MISSION CODE NAME: DECEPTION ISLAND
More on this as we go along, but suffice to say we will all be very pleased to realize this goal.
Please bear in mind—with what I have in mind for the big stretch goal, should new content be added to the book, it could mean extending things a bit, which will definitely be worth a months’ delay at most!
The books should be back from the printer at Summer's end, shipping to you in October, but no later than November. I wanted to be both realistic about the production schedule and how it will coincide with my work schedule, to make sure nothing is rushed, and everything looks beautiful. Barring another giant monster invasion in Northern California, we are looking good.
After the campaigns ends, production on the book will continue (we are currently in production now) until all design and layout is completed, as well as all additional art. I'd like to be ready for the printer by July.

Risks and challenges
the bulk of the work is done: story, cover art, and printer's quote, with just some further expanded content to add and design. This is our sixth Kickstarter book project and we're excited to be making this happen in time for the 20th Anniversary of GIANTKILLER!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
