I am creating a massive, 13ft sculpture of a cap gun entitled: Re:VOLVER as part of my Little Terrors art series. It will be displayed at the Grand Rapids Art Museum for ArtPrize that will be on display from September 12, 2018 to October 14, 2018. I am asking for the absolute minimum I need to complete the project, but the more funds I raise, the smoother the process will be. Ideally, with this money I will be able to hire assistants to help with fabrication and to help pay for the shipping to and from Grand Rapids.
In exchange for your support, I have some really exciting art and promotional materials for you. (colors and details may vary)
Show everyone that you have an address with this charming postcard of the spec art for "Re:VOLVER".
I know what you're thinking: "I like little drawings, but I don't know where to find them." Then you should get an original 4x4in sketch with a postcard included.
Do you want to look "funky-fresh and a little dangerous"? Try this Re:VOLVER T-shirt
Show that you see the bright side of hazardous situations with a HappHazard T-shirt that is hand-printed (by the artist) for you or for that stylish person in your life.
Look at this archival print of an adorable toddler with a toy assault rifle. This is probably a solid investment and a great conversation starter.
Be the master of all you surveil with the "Playtime Color Surveillance Camera".
Or you can be the bomb and pick up a "Pull-to-Play Grenade".
Are your pants more fancy? Try a slightly larger hardwood version of the surveillance camera.
Alright, here's what you've actually been waiting for, "Automatic Fun" itself. but there are only going to be a limited number in this edition, so hurry up and order one already! The price will only go up from here.
Not big enough for you? Why don't you try being the one and only owner of the original sculpture that started all of this, "Re:VOLVER", delivered to you by me. Show your neighbors your complicated feelings about the American indoctrination of children into a gun culture. Made primarily of aluminum this sturdy sculpture would look great in your yard, pool deck, or villa.
Artist info and background:
I was born and grew up as an American in Saudi Arabia. The constant surveillance and threat of physical and ideological violence shaped a lot of my world view. In the Little Terrors series I use children's toys as a motif to deal with adult anxieties. Toys model adult behaviors. As a former toy designer, I am always interested in the behaviors we don't represent in toy form as well as the seemingly arbitrary age we allow children to play with toys and games that reflect the more questionable elements of our society. Risks and challenges
The greatest challenge of this project is the scale and shipping. I have completed other large scale projects for the city of Tempe (inFlux AZ) and the city of Scottsdale (the Catacombs of Professor McGee). I know that fabrication and transportation are going to be the hardest part of the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
