My name’s Nina Cosford and I’m an illustrator based in the UK. Alongside my day-to-day illustration work, I try to make time for my other big passion: travel. No matter where I go, I always bring my sketchbook along with me.
Even though I’ve illustrated countless books for other people, I’ve never had the chance to make one about my own travels. Although there are plenty of glossy guide books out there, I want to create a candid, colourful, unique and entertaining look at travel - something that is rarely explored through the eyes of an illustrator.
For my first book, I wanted to start with something epic …
On 5th March 2019, I will be boarding the Trans-Siberian Railway, travelling all the way from Moscow to Beijing. This a trip that I’ve been dreaming of and working towards for years - and I’d love for you to be part of the journey!
A self-published 40+ page, full-colour illustrated account of my Trans-Siberian adventure - jam-packed full of humorous observations, beautiful landscapes (captured in situ) and handwritten notes from the pages of my journals.
From window views, to world-famous sites, daily thoughts to the kaleidoscope of cultures I will encounter, I want this book to offer an insight into this incredible journey and hopefully inspire others in their own adventures.

The Trans-Siberian Railway is the longest train journey in the world, starting in Russia and ending in China. The route covers Moscow, Siberia, Mongolia and Beijing.
Visiting the iconic Red Square, St Basil’s Cathedral and seeing some incredible, distinctive Russian architecture. A four-day train journey across Russian lands, onto….
Listvyanka is a town positioned next to Lake Baikal - the deepest lake in the world! Visiting the open-air Wooden Architecture Museum, a Shaman yurt and a 15th century watchtower in this stunning Siberian landscape. After getting back on the train, the next stop is...
Covering the capital Ullaanbataar and Terelj National Park which is home to glacial lakes, natural hot springs and a buddhist monastery in the mountains. After that, back on the train and down into China…
Seeing the iconic Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and walking along the Great Wall of China!
Funding will go towards the time it takes to illustrate the pages, as well as the costs of printing and shipping the book and other rewards.
If we go beyond our target, there are loads of exciting extra goodies planned, so the more funds we raise, the more you will receive! This idea has the scope to go beyond just this one book - and if its successful, I’d love to expand the series to other destinations.
If we are unable to reach our goal, unfortunately I cannot afford the time or expense to make this book. So PLEASE help to make this happen!
(Please note the trip has been arranged and funded independently in advance of this campaign. No money raised will be used for the actual journey).
If you are unable to support this project financially, you can still help by spreading the word - any and all support is greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!

Risks and challenges
Creating the work:
I have been a full-time, professional illustrator for the past 8 years, and have worked on over 20 published books, as well as other publications. I plan on creating as much work in situ as possible, but I will be gathering large amounts of photographic reference and notes to continue work when I return.
Printing the book / rewards:
I have already gathered quotes from all necessary printers and suppliers for the rewards.
I have been running a busy online shop for the past 5 years, so I am familiar with packing and shipping orders worldwide.
I have a number of ways to upgrade the rewards should we recieve more money than anticipated.
