About

Actual gameplay

We created a step-by-step video of the actual gameplay with spoken and subtitled explanation. Please keep in mind you are watching prototype card used and the pace is very slow compared to the real thing.

Rules to play

We have a pdf with the beta play through version of the rules. The full set of rules on how to play blindsight is also available on our website, along with a few short videos explaining the several gameplay situations.

Music was our first love

Quite some time ago... we, three music-making friends turned our leisure life upside down when one of us proposed to create a card game. So we swapped our musical instruments for paper and pencils and threw ourselves into a whole new adventure. No more jamming and writing music but drawing and writing rules!

The first friend was Nils, who woke up from a dream about a fantastic surrealistic card game and he knew it had to be created. Oh, and he plays keyboards and piano. The second friend was Olav, the artistic one, with an eye for design and detail. Yes, he is a musician as well, he plays the bass. The third and final friend was Sebastian, the heartbeat of the team, he gets things going when the other two are slacking off and he keeps the pace. You might have guessed: he plays the drums.

You can make it if you try

So how do three musical friends create a card game? Well, we started with a regular deck of playing cards, a piece of paper and a pen. We figured if the game had roughly the same amount of cards as a regular deck, the production would be less complicated. We thought of special moves and assigned them to the picture cards. Meanwhile, we were working with piles. Discard piles, draw piles, piles in the centre, piles in front of us, trash piles, piles on the side and piles on our heads. So, we created a game that was quite cool but felt unsatisfactory as a whole. By this time, we stumbled upon two decks of blank cards and started drawing symbols and creating special cards. The game started to become better and better... until... we ran into a brick wall, also known as 'the card game creators block'.

Going slightly mad

Had we been working for so long on something that wasn’t actually fun to play? Was our game getting too complicated? No matter how hard we tried, nothing seemed to work, all the fun had disappeared and we were about to throw the cards out of the window... until Sebastian spoke the legendary words: Why don't we just turn the whole thing around?

Olav and Nils quickly responded in a jokingly way by turning the cards in their hands around. So instead of seeing their own cards, they could see each other’s cards... In the distance we could hear angels sing, a thundering storm and yes, a drum solo...

Could Sebastian be right? Might this actually work?

Born to be alive

From then on we worked tirelessly on the game. Rethinking the numbers, bringing the symbols down from eight to two, bringing down the special cards to only four (there used to be many more) and we spent hours and hours on the colours of the cards. Olav worked on the final design as Sebastian and Nils kept on tweaking every aspect of the gameplay. We literally turned the game around. We were back with full and endless inspiration and the game grew better with every game we played and every card we laid. Our card game was born and we named her: blindsight.

Hot for teacher

First and foremost blindsight is fun to play. However, after having played quite a few test games with children, we noticed an educational value to many parts of the game. It is a cooperative game, it improves logical thinking and laying out game play strategies. Players can - and should -  monitor each other, since all cards are visible all the time. Playing blindsight with kids is not just fun, it is most certainly educational as well.

Simply the best

We really want you to get the best possible card game. Not only in gameplay, but also in materials used. Cartamundi creates amazing tabletop games and we asked them to create blindsight in the highest possible quality. And they will. They are... simply the best.

We care a lot

...about a lot, but especially about the environment and quality of life. That's why we are thankful to have a renowned company like Cartamundi just around the corner. Producing close to home gives us the opportunity to visit the printing facility and witness the printing and handling of blindsight with our own eyes. We know Cartamundi takes really good care of their workforce and pays special attention to the environment. Feel free to read their Corporal Social Responsibility policy to fully understand why we chose them.

Only you

We are very proud to be where we are today and we cannot wait to send you this amazing card game. We are confident you will love it as much as we do, or even more so. Now it is up to you, and only you, to join in and help us raise the funds we need to bring blindsight to your table.

Risks and challenges

There are little to no risks involved.

Blindsight is already fully designed and has gone through an extensive testing stage. We tweaked the rules after playing over 200 test games with players both known and unknown to the extraordinary gameplay.

The only thing needed now, is the actual production of the 110 cards, a beautiful box and the rule book and then shipping it to your table. Cartamundi will be in charge of the production. A high-quality deck and box will be guaranteed. We are confident, when reaching our goal, that we will be sending you one of the most amazing yet simple card games ever seen.

The shipment has proven to be a daunting task for many a project. After checking with a lot of companies we decided to go with DHL Global Mail to send blindsight out into the world.
