Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of wildlife in their daily life, Plant Rabbit Hawk translates this experience into a simple card game. People of all ages and backgrounds will be able to learn about wildlife and the value these ecosystems have on the world.
Games are universal, they’re fun to play and can be a great tool to teach others about almost anything. Through Plant Rabbit Hawk I am able to ensure that a variety of people have the access and education into the natural world. By doing so, we will be able to spread awareness and understanding so that we may safeguard our natural world for future generations to come.
By giving people the chance to experience and enjoy wildlife, they are more likely to protect it. If we don’t spread the mindset of protecting our only world from one generation to the next, wildlife will continue on its path of disappearing from our lives forever.
WHY ROCK PAPER SCISSORS?
I chose to mimic the classic game "Rock Paper Scissors" and re-interpret into a card game because of its complexity. The game can be deceptively simple, a game of chance. This is a direct metaphor to how some people may view the ecosystem, let luck decide the fate of a species. However, when you introduce an outside factor, human involvement and a special blend of strategy, there can be patterns of success. By introducing the format of cards into "Rock Paper Scissors", luck of the draw and strategy become synonymous. You can give your hand an advantage or a disadvantage depending on how well you play. Carefully strategizing for the future to ensure your ecosystem could see success!
Like "Rock Paper Scissors", Plant Rabbit Hawk plays the same way, except with cards. In this 2 Player game for any age, one player shuffles the deck and deals out 3 cards to each player. Each player will then select a card, place it face down in front of them. The players then say, "Plant Rabbit Hawk!" and flip over their cards. The player who has the winning card, takes the played cards and sets them infront of themselves.
Once played the winner picks up a new card followed by the loser so that their total in hand is 3 cards. This continues until all cards are played. Whoever has the most cards after every card has been played, wins!
Wilderness cards are only available for the Hawk Support Bundle and can be played in game. After both players reveal their cards and a wilderness card is played, the player who revealed the wilderness card gets to look through the "wilderness" pile and select a card of their choosing. If there are no cards in the wilderness pile, it then becomes a draw and both cards will be placed into the wilderness.
THE PLANT RABBIT HAWK DECK
Each deck contains 30 cards: 10 Plant, 10 Rabbit and 10 Hawk cards. There will also be an instruction card to learn how to play, along with various ways to help our ecosystem! The illustration represented on these cards were made exclusively for this deck. I drew these to represent a "glass window" in order to represent the fragility of our ecosystem. The size of the cards will be 2 inches by 3.5 inches and are printed on 100% biodegradable and recyclable paper. They are also printed with soy base inks and carbon offsetting. This helps ensure our impact on the environment is minimal.
I hope that this game will bring a bit of the outdoor indoors and bring a new and fun perspective towards our environment. It is in our hands to protect the natural world for future generations to come.
Risks and challenges
This is my first "Quickstarter" project! Card games can be hard to explain, but I explained it through the re-envisioning of a classic game. I'm double checking to make sure that my numbers make sense and that I'll be able to reach my goal. I'm taking a risk with the amount of games I will be printing for this limited edition.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
