Who we are
Every year, thousands of artists from around the globe flock to Los Angeles, a place where dreams can supposedly come true, only to discover that pursuing a job in “the industry” doesn’t guarantee you’ll ever work. As Three 6 Mafia says, “It’s hard out here for a pimp.” Enter Nightpantz.
Nightpantz is a digital sketch collaborative based in Los-Angeles that successfully strives to give artists opportunities to be seen and heard. We write scripts, turn them into videos, and release them into the world. The entire growing team of 200+ collaborators lends a hand at bringing the sketches to life. Our intent is simple: allow anyone with talent and drive to make fun, quality content that can be posted online without waiting for permission from the traditional Hollywood gatekeepers. We hope to serve aspiring actors, filmmakers, and writers around the country by providing them a creative home as soon as they arrive.
We want to harness the frustration felt by many independent filmmakers and actors, and give them a chance to flourish. Nightpantz provides a safe, inclusive space to brainstorm and collaborate, as well as access to the tools needed to create a finished product.
Each week, a rotating group along with some core members of Nightpantz, enter the UCB café on Sunset Blvd. If it’s a writers meeting, many scripts will be read out loud by talented actors. After each read through, a lively discussion ensues with the goal of shaping the script into something magical, and if it hits the team in that special spot, it gets the green light.
Anybody can bring material, or ideas to pitch, with the goal of getting green-lit. If it’s a production meeting, the green-lit sketches are assigned shoot dates and directors and producers are chosen. Since our inception in 2015, we have already completed more than 25 sketches and shorts, and in the process given hard-working artists a chance to learn and take chances. You can find all our sketches on Funny or Die and YouTube. Our popular ballet sketch has been featured on The Huffington Post, ABC7 News, LAist and the Los Angeles Times.
Help us make a second year of sketches!
We hope to grow our platform to engage even more artists in our second year. Our open source approach means anyone can take a shot at writing, acting, shooting, directing, producing, editing, or recording sound- our members are only limited by their imagination and know-how. Pooled resources have allowed us to do all of this work with a minimal budget.
But it still takes money to make the Nightpantz magic happen. And that is where you come in. Every dollar we raise will go entirely towards producing new sketches, including hiring more editors, sound mixers, and cinematographers, as well as covering our location and costume fees. By reaching our $10,000 goal, we'll be able to produce at least 25 new sketches. And we'll produce them all in a year or less! Anything we raise beyond our goal will go towards producing even more sketches and short films.
Your help means the world to us. Heck, maybe we'll see you in one of our sketches in the not-too-distant future. We believe in the power of collaboration. We believe that artists working in harmony with one another create magic. We believe in something bigger than ourselves: comedy is our higher power, Nightpantz our vehicle. Help us help more creative individuals make work they can be proud of.
To thank you for your support, we've compiled a selection of rewards that we hope you will enjoy, from limited edition tanks and tees just for our Kickstarter backers, to your very own faux-American Apparel ad, and many more. Hi. My name is Tim Lacatena. The single thought that birthed the 'Pantz was "How can I get all the frustrated, wildly talented people I know in LA to come together and create amazing work?" After thirteen years and over 1300 auditions as an actor, something was missing. I had no tangible creative outlet. I missed the feeling of artistic immersion that training in a ballet studio eight hours a day as a teenager had delivered. That yearning led to a Manifesto. A pair of regularly-worn sweatpants and a UCB improv night-class led to a name. In 2015, a shooting star passed over my Silverlake apartment and Nightpantz was born.
The past year has been the most creative of my life. I stopped auditioning and have focused on driving Nightpantz towards the goal of maximum creative alchemy. I’m surrounded by a growing community of creative, diverse and hard-working artists: writers, directors, producers, actors, cinematographers, sound mixers, editors and composers. I'm grateful to be collaborating consistently with this group of people. And we're having a blast doing it!
