Welcome to "Cops and Monsters", an on-going, award winning webseries from Scotland.
Described as "Buffy meets Taggart", Volume 1 follows Maya Hedges as she comes to grips with working for the Paranormal Investigation Team Scotland, with her now ex-boyfriend-cum-partner Martin Carmichael, working the case of the Crimson Murders. Vicious werewolf assassin Alexis, aka Lycan A202, has been working with the Cult of Many Faces, to kill selected targets and strike fear in both the supernatural and human communities. To top things off, Maya is secretly hoping to use the PITS resources to find the truth about her parents death at the hands of a pack of werewolves years previously.
In exchange for your support we're offering: set visits, walk on roles, signed scripts, DVDs, blu-rays, props, mug-shot perks (your picture will appear in the PITS office!), digital soundtracks, comic book art, posters, shout outs etc.
This episode will follow directly on from "Fight the Bite", which you can watch below:
Episode 7, "Trapped", is in post-production and you can watch a teaser below:
We're also offering the associate, executive and series producer perks which will give you the credit of producer on our episodes on the final episode and on IMDb.
We've shot 8 episodes so far and you can watch the completed episodes at www.copsandmonsters.co.uk.
The Cult of Many Faces and Alexis have been the antagonists throughout volume 1.
Meet the cast and crew of our most recently shot episode, "Trapped" -
We've still got until the 30th of April to raise funds so if we manage to raise £4100 in total we can commission a Cops and Monsters comic book and ALL backers will be sent a FREE digital copy with the option to buy a hard copy.
All of our main cast for Volume 1 (Ellen Patterson, Innes Anderson, Billy Kirkwood, Simon Weir, Kenny Boyle and Chris Bain) are set to return for the series finale.
Leona Vaughan (Wolfblood, Stella) will be returning as Alicia Hughes, a vampire PR specialist, and fiancé to Grace Mackenzie (Rachel Teate).
Rachel Teate is also returning to play by-the-books PITS agent Grace Mackenzie for the series finale.
We'll also be casting for the roles of Maya's parents, Neil and Lucy, who we will hope will be from the wonderful world of sci-fi TV and film. Once our script is locked down we can start to approach the agents of the actors on our wish list. Once we can confirm who will be playing these parts we'll announce them here.
We're making the show because there isn't a sci-fi/supernatural show from Scotland. Apart from BBC 3's "Class", we've only got Doctor Who. Meanwhile in America they've got so many great genre shows that are well loved around the world. We just want to contribute something to that.
We're also extremely passionate about working in the world of TV and film. We want to create dramatic, fun stories that will entertain those who watch it and characters that will be loved (and hated!) by everybody who discovers it.
Once episode 9 is finished we will be pushing for the series as a whole to be screened on TV or perhaps we will be able to make a new series and be supported by an established television production company.
Watch the video below to hear our cast discuss crowdfunding and what it means to them:
The show has already won "Best Web Series" at the LA Film Awards in 2016 and we will be screened at the Web Fest New York event in March/April time. We have also submitted to the show to more webseries festivals around the world in the hope that we can continue to grow the audience who watch the stories we are trying to tell.
We have tried to raise money through private sponsorship, and so far that hasn't been successful. We have also approached our private funding body, Creative Scotland, where we were told that they do not support funding for the web series format.
We have been extremely lucky and so far successfully crowdfunded our first 8 episodes, thanks to our fans, old and new! With this in mind, we are hoping that once again we will be able to fund our final episode of Volume 1 through Kickstarter with the love and support of our fans, while in the process picking up some new ones.
Crowdfunding works for us because in exchange for your support you get to be a part of the show. Your names are on the credits, you get our DVDs, signed scripts, photos, set visits, you get to BE IN THE SHOW, pop figures of our characters and more. Whatever happens to our show after this episode, you will be a part of it. It's a show for the fans and we love that.
We've got the usual perks including the shout out perk, the signed script/DVD combo, we're including the blu-ray perk which will include all 9 episodes and special features like outtakes, panels, music videos, slideshows and more, the PITS ID badge with your (or your loved ones) face and name on it, the walk on role perk where you can BE a monster in the final episode, the set visit perk for those who want to meet the cast and crew but would rather stay behind the camera, signed cast photos, the signed prop perk, you've got three A3 signed posters to choose from too, the digital soundtrack perk so you can listen to your favourite tracks on the go and whatever else we can think of to convince you to part with your cash to help us make this final episode a reality.
There's also combo variations of certain perks so you don't feel like you're missing out.
THE RED CARPET PERK
Assuming we hit our goal, we'll be holding a special screening of all 6 episodes (and perhaps the spin off minisodes too!) for all of our cast and crew in Scotland. We'll be inviting the press and members of the industry to join us for a Q and A about the show and you can be there too!
We do not have a definite date for this event yet but probably near the end of July in the evening in Glasgow. Travel and accommodation will not be available.
Are we missing a perk? Let us know and we'll see what we can do!
That's because our last episode was shot over 1 day, and with less actors (only 3 that time!) where this time we have ALL of our main cast back, plus special guests and we want to shoot over the course of 3 days so we can take our time over each scene, ensuring that it's as perfect as it can be before we take it to the edit.
Your money will help us pay our cast, pay our crew, cover travel and hotel expenses, it'll feed everybody, pay for the props, pay for the makeup, the costumes and any additional equipment we might need for the 3 day shoot.
You can share the link to our Kickstarter campaign on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Tumblr, or any other social media platform where your friends can see your posts. You can tell your family, your friends and co-workers/students about how they can get involved and be a part of it.
You can subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don't miss out on any new videos, you can LIKE us on Facebook and you can FOLLOW us on Twitter. Every share and RT helps us make this final episode possible!
Risks and challenges
Anything could happen prior to the shoot - a cast member could suddenly become unavailable (leading to a re-shoot or picking up their scenes another day), the weather could be too bad too film so we'd need to switch filming dates around to accommodate that), or our editor could become ill, meaning we'd need to get someone else in (probably our director) to finish the episode.
We've got a combined length of 10 years of experience in the TV and indie film scene meaning that hopefully we can anticipate any problems and deal with them quickly and efficiently.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
