Welcome to the Kickstarter campaign for "Revolution in a Teacup", our next episode of "Cops and Monsters"...
Cops and Monsters is an on-going indie Scottish supernatural web-series following the Paranormal Investigation Team Scotland (PITS) as they attempt to crack the case of Lycan A202, a powerful werewolf who can transform without a full moon, and the influence that the sinister Cult of Many Faces has over her.
"Revolution in a Teacup", written by James T Harding, picks up directly after "In Crimson" as PITS member Maya Hedges (Ellen Patterson) desperately searches for a fellow PITS member who has been kidnapped by the villainous Cult of Many Faces (Billy Kirkwood).
Meanwhile, recovering from her most recent kill, powerful werewolf Alexis (Innes Anderson) is struggling to discover if she is more wolf than woman, when her twin sister Zoe (Mhairi Calvey) reaches out to her, pleading for Alexis to run away with her to escape The Cult.
A messsage from our new cast member, Rachel Teate!
We are so close to hitting our target but if we don't raise at least £2000 by the 30th of June our show is over!
With your help we can fund the next episode our planned 8. So far we have ran several campaigns in order to produce our previous episodes, paying for actors, crew, equipment, props, special effects makeup, visual effects, sound effects, scoring, costumes and more.
If we hit our target of £2000 we can shoot, produce, edit and release episode 5. The following stretch goals will help us finish our series!
- STRETCH GOAL 1 - If we raise £4000 we can shoot and produce episodes 5 and 6.
- STRETCH GOAL 2 - If we raise £8000 we can shoot and produce episodes 5, 6 and 7 and complete volume 1.
- STRETCH GOAL 3 - If we raise £9000 we can shoot episodes 5, 6 and 7 as well as our bonus episode, "Astrid's Choice", by award winning writer Roland Moore.
- STRETCH GOAL 4 - If we are AMAZINGLY LUCKY and raise £10,000 we can shoot not only episodes 5-7 and Roland's episode but we'll also be able to shoot a SECOND BONUS EPISODE, written by Hannah George.
We have an extremely hard working crew made up from up-and-coming television and filmmakers and experienced professional crew who have credits in many BBC, ITV, STV and Channel 4 shows. Together we work hard to produce the best quality product we can while teaching each other the skills of the TV and Film industry.
Returning cast members include Ellen Patterson, Billy Kirkwood, Kenny Boyle, Simon Weir (Taggart, Acid House, Waterloo Road), and Innes Anderson are joined by Sophie Aldred (Doctor Who), Mhairi Calvey (Braveheart) and Rachel Teate (Wolfblood).
We've got another cameo role to cast in this episode so fingers crossed we can introduce another star from Sci-fi history to join us, maybe someone from Doctor Who or Torchwood...
"I'm delighted to be a part of Cops and Monsters having heard about it via Twitter and from pals on the convention circuit. I just think it's so brilliant that the democratic process of Kickstarter projects means that talented people can make the stuff they really want to do and the people who want to see/hear it can be involved too. It's worked well for the great audio projects I've done - Strangeness in Space, Minister of Chance - and I'm looking forward to joining the team and having some fun!" - Sophie Aldred.
Actor James Payton, best known for his roles in Harry Potter and Captain America: First Avenger, joins our cast as werewolf activist David Brannigan.
Most of the people who work on Cops and Monsters are total nerds. We grew up on Doctor Who, Buffy, Angel, Being Human, Supernatural, Roswell etc, and now we want to take that inspiration and put our creative juices into our own show. Something extra for the fans of these big, well loved show, something that they can take 15 minutes to watch online (or binge, who doesn't love a good binge?).
Right here! All of our episodes (4 of them so far) can be watched on our official site and we've got behind the scenes videos, a music video from Josephine Sillars, special one off episodes starring The Cult of Many Faces and more.
You can start with our pilot episode right here:
Over the course of the show we've had Kirsty Strain (River City, Burnistoun), Caitlin Blackwood (Little Amy Pond, Doctor Who), Sarah Louise Madison (The Weeping Angels, Doctor Who) and Colin McCredie (Taggart, River City) star in our episodes and we hope to continue bringing in well known faces to our show.
Because it works. We've contacted funding bodies, local businesses, spoke to them about the show, what we're trying to do and get support but it's not been forthcoming.
We have been very fortunate with crowdfunding campaigns so far, and our last two kickstarters (which helped us make episodes 2 and 3) were a success, even going a little over our target. So thank you if you were one of those fantastic people.
We want to make this show, we want to finish the story. We have spent a lot of time working on the characters, the A, B and C stories for each episode, the arc of it all, where it's all going, and we've even left some plot threads to be carried on for series 2 (if we're extremely lucky!) and it would be terrible if we had to stop at episode 4 - especially with that cliffhanger.
So we are asking you, good people, to part with your hard earned cash and support our indie project.
Obviously, the more costly the perk is to make, the less useful it is to our project. There's no point in raising money to make the episode if the money just goes on making and sending out the perk. So what we try and do is something a little bit different...
Yes, we'll offer signed scripts, signed props from the episode, official Cops and Monsters posters by Doctor Who artist Stuart Manning, signed DVDs of all of our episodes so far, and personalised PITS badges...
But we also like to offer perks such as the Monster Perk where you can come up to Glasgow and be in the episode as a werewolf, zombie or vampire. The character perk where we will name a character after you in an episode (we've already got quite a few of them in episode 5!), the credit perk will get your name on the end credits of our episode, the associate producer perk gets you an associate producer credit on IMDb, a copy of the episodes so far on DVD, a personal thank you from cast and crew, a Cops and Monsters poster and some other awesome goodies, we've also got the voice over perk where you can record a line of dialogue and we'll insert it straight into the episode (and then you can annoy friends and family when pointing out your dulcet tones over and over again!)
All backers who pledge £40 will receive a private link to episode 5 before it goes live to the public!
Here are some pictures of our perks:
Most importantly you'll get to be a part of the Cops and Monsters family. With your donation - whether is be a £1 or £1000 - you will have help made this episode happen and continue our story, and for that we cannot thank you enough.
Writers Roland Moore (Doctors, Land Girls) and Hannah George (Wolfblood, The Slammer) have put together scripts for two mini-sodes featuring some familiar characters and some brand new ones too. With your help we can get these shot and include them in a special DVD and a secret link for our backers!
We also want to hear your suggestions for perks and if it's something we can do, we'll make it happen. We've got a Twitter and a Facebook page for you to leave messages (but please, be nice, we don't like trolls - Alexis will come and bite their heads clean off!)
This is as much a show for the fans as it is for us, so we want you all to feel involved.
So far all of our episodes have been shot over 1 day and this is simply because we insist on paying all of our cast and crew and the money raised covers a 1 day shoot.
This time however we have opted for a full 2-day shoot so that we can take our time over each scene, allowing our crew to prep and shoot every shot properly and without rushing, and to allow our actors to get into the swing of it with a few rehearsals.
Our fight director, Carter Ferguson, gave us a great piece of advice on the set of episode 4, which was "You have to be careful not to shoot a film in the morning and a documentary in the afternoon!".
The £2000 we are asking for will pay for our 9 cast members, 10 crew members, props, costumes, special effects makeup, food to keep us all going throughout the long days, sound design, sound mixing, music composition, visual effects and editing. Without which, none of this would be at all possible.
SPREAD THE WORD! Get on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Snapchat and Bebo (that's still a thing, right?) and tell everybody. Share the link to our kickstarter campaign and get as many people as you can checking it out and hopefully donating it.
If we don't hit our target in 45 days we get NOTHING and we won't be able to make our show.
That's it, that's our pitch. We'll be updating as we go along, with videos, pictures and other cool things as we start pre-production on episode 5, and hopefully we will be shooting it in July and putting it out in August/September.
Thank you from all of us at Cops and Monsters.
Risks and challenges
If we are not fortunate enough to hit our funding for this episode then we simply can't make it happen.
It is vital to us that all of our cast and crew are paid for their time, energy and skills. We are all working professionals who are striving to make a name for ourselves in the industry, trying to be taken seriously.
We will work around the clock from now until the end of the campaign to raise our required target, contact the press, bloggers, scifi magazines, everybody we can think of to raise awareness of what we are trying to achieve. We'll also go back to local businesses, knock on doors and do what we can to make it happen.
If we do hit our target then we go onto shoot episode 5 in July and again start to promote it, make sure as many people watch it as possible, so when it comes to making episode 6, we are ready for the challenge of raising money to shoot the next episode.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
