About this project
Will You Stand With or Shut Down Nouvella?
The Great American Novel Demands an Answer.
At Globo Books, we believe in the power of big books and the importance of the Great American Novel. Size matters, and the growing trend towards smaller and sleeker design are a blight on the publishing industry.
As publishers, we aspire to three essential principles:
- Size Matters: Long books are serious books.
- Tradition Prevails: A novel about a struggling writer who cheats on his wife in/around New York works every time.
- Risk is Risky: Don’t take chances on weird ideas or untested authors.
Nouvella Upholds None of Our Values
They are the worst offenders in the industry. They exclusively publish pocket-size works of fiction between 10k-40k words, with unpredictable stories from a diverse group of authors.
- Small Books: They fit in your back pocket, for pete's sake!
- Non-Traditional: The company appears to be run by women.
- Risk Embracers: They publish new authors, weirdos, and established authors whose agents gave up on these stunted manuscripts.
So which do you choose, dear reader? Will you side with the literary giants who toiled long hours to publish massive tomes? Or will you side with the kale-chewing indie?
Help us KickSTOP Nouvella
How? It’s easy!
- BUY as many of their books as we can (with your funds!)
- DESTROY them all on November 14 (with your help!)
This will prevent mass distribution of their titles, and publicly shame them into oblivion.
November 14: The Day of Reckoning
The funds raised will help us send you their novellas.
Then, it’s time to choose:
Will You DESTROY them? (#ShutDownNouvella)
On November 14, 2015 (the anniversary of the U.S. publication of Moby Dick!), you'll share photos and videos on social media of how you plan to destroy your novellas.
Or Will You ENJOY them? (#StandWithNouvella)
The Nouvella team has responded to our campaign by encouraging their supporters to fund this Kickstarter and participate in what they’re calling “Stand With Nouvella Day”—conveniently, also on November 14, 2015.
It’s up to you to choose your side. We count on your support.
In addition to copies of the two newest Nouvella titles, ripe for disposal, you may receive a number of other rewards:
- Mugs to impress
- Postcards to share
- More books to destroy
- Personal interactions with Nouvella authors/staff
These rewards will never be available anywhere else.

More About Nouvella
As if you needed any more reasons to destroy these misguided miscreants, just take a look at their pretentiously hipster About page:
Where Your Cash Is Headed
- Buy up the entire run of Ciao, Suerte by Annie McGreevy: $10,000
- Buy up the entire run of One Day Soon Time Will Have No Place Left to Hide by Christian Kiefer: $10,000
- Kickstarter + processing fees: $2,100
- Reward production + shipping: $3,000
The hope that Nouvella goes away forever: priceless.
But What Of The Criticism That The Publishing Industry Is Stagnating And Needs Indies Like Nouvella To Push The Boundaries Of What Is Possible For Contemporary Literature?
Yes, we’re aware of recent discussion about the publishing industry. Many claim that it is:
- Hobbled by sexism
- Held back by an unwillingness to adapt
- Hampered by a lack of cultural diversity
Many also declare that, in fact, there is no such thing as the “Great American Novel.”
To which our illustrious CEO, Robert Bosworth, says:
"Go Faulkner yourself"
Together, we can ShutDownNouvella.com on Shut Down Nouvella Day, November 14, 2015!
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this for real?
Is that a real question?
But if you buy all their books, won't they just make a bunch of money and make more books, even if you “destroy them”?
We believe in the incredible power of public shaming. Once the Nouvella team sees this wildly successful campaign, followed by a social-media destruction of their so-called "literature," they will likely quit and go work for a non-profit or something.
What is Shut Down Nouvella Day on November 14?
November 14, 2015 is the anniversary of the U.S. publication of Moby Dick.
On that day, you’ll submit photos and videos of creative ways to destroy these novellas (and any others). Submissions will be featured on ShutDownNouvella.com, and the best will even have opportunities to win additional rewards!
Risks and challenges
As a leading publisher of bonafide American literature, we are quite confident in our ability to print the necessary content and ship it in a timely fashion after the successful campaign. Unforeseen production issues with our suppliers of certain promotional items may cause delays.
Our main concern is the possibility that certain backers may actually READ the novellas upon arrival, instead of simply destroying them as requested. We acknowledge that it is quite possible this campaign will accidentally result in additional success for these renegade purveyors of these wimpy books.
