Travel Banter is a deck of conversation starter cards, based on the popular #CultureTrav chat and blog.
Sometimes the people we see the most, we don't always know the best.
Their photos appear on social media but do we really know the details behind the exciting adventures they've had?
You want to get to know people. But, sometimes you don't know what questions to ask...
Great. That was useful...🤔
Wouldn't it be great to have more engaging questions to ask to create a better conversation?
We carry around flash cards when we study Spanish verbs, but for some reason, it's considered unusual to carry around a conversation starter card. Yet, you could say that carrying around a conversation tool could be one of the most important things to bring with you. 💡
Travel Banter wants to make engaging conversations happen. Travel Banter gives you a fun and easy way to bring you closer together, and share memorable moments.
A game to inspire fun and engaging conversations, Travel Banter is the in-person version of the successful (four-years running) CultureTrav Twitter chat and blog.
In each box, you'll find 49 conversation cards containing 2 conversation questions on one side and 1 community-featured picture on one side.
Each deck has nearly 100 questions divided into 5 categories: Arts & Culture, Food & Drink, Life & Lessons, Culture, and People.
In addition to the questions, there are suggested ways to play the game and 3 challenges for fresh ideas.
The cards are travel-themed, but even if you only travel here and there, you'll still find them fun and exciting. Some of the questions are light and fun, and some will make you think in a way that’s engaging and enjoyable.

Four years ago, I was browsing my Twitter feed. I noticed that travelers I was following were having conversations around specific hashtags. So, I started exploring the hashtags. As it turned out, they were sharing stories in Twitter chats– live Q&A sessions at a set time and date around a hashtag.
I started joining the chats, and became inspired by the travelers that I was virtually meeting.
And, that's where my own journey with launching a Twitter chat began. I wanted to create a community for travelers who love discovering local culture.
On November 13, 2014, I launched my very first #CultureTravChat, to start having conversations around culture and travel:
I've been hosting #CultureTrav ever since on Thursdays. Each question in Travel Banter was originally featured on the CultureTrav chat, and created by the traveler community, my co-hosts, and me.
Over the years, it's been incredible to watch travelers connect online, become friends, and meet offline. Now, I look forward to you sharing the same fun and easy conversations with your friends, family, coworkers, and strangers, while playing Travel Banter!
By backing this campaign, you are helping to spread the word about Travel Banter, joining the conversations, and being part of the further development of Travel Banter.
Funds raised on Kickstarter will go towards production, shipping, and startup costs. With your support, I'll be able to take Travel Banter global, partner up with other organizations, and help others have fun and engaging conversations.
Thanks for your support! I really appreciate it!
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges for this project are relatively low. Travel Banter has already gone through a prototype round for artwork, production, and printing. I have chosen a reputable self-publishing company, PrintNinja, that has printed millions of (comic) books, games, and more. All of the questions in the game have already been finalized. Outside of the special "Your Photo in Travel Banter" reward tier, which allows you to buy a photo to be included in the game, most of the artwork is ready.
Providing there are no issues with shipping delays, my goal is to have Travel Banter to backers by late December 2018. International shipping may take slightly longer due to customs and other potential delays. With sufficient funding, I can access expedited shipping, which gets Travel Banter to you faster!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
