Holler Roast coffee has been a project long in coming. When we moved to our small Tennessee berg, there were no good sources of decent coffee. The local palette tended more toward Folgers than fresh, micro-roasted coffee. After months of seeking sources, we finally tried our first roast using a cast-iron skillet and a spatula. The result was a great coffee - and far too much smoke in the house.
Things have changed since that day. We are using a small roaster that delivers a consistent roast every time. Our beans are sourced from great farms awith few middle men. And the local preferences have grown: Many now prefer a freshly-roasted coffee to the Folgers option when their budget allows for a premium coffee purchase.
Our business has grown too. We are past the capacity of our current coffee roaster. However, the jump from a $600 machine to a $4,500 machine is a steep one. So we would like to pre-sell coffee at a discounted rate to help offset the expense of the new roaster, facility updates and large coffee bean purchase necessary to take things to the next level.
Total project cost is $5,000, but if we get $1,500 in hand, we can get rolling on the ceiling adjustments, order beans, and start rolling!
Please consider supporting our expansion project and know that you will get to enjoy some fantastic cups of coffee soon.
Risks and challenges
The short term risks are very low. If we are very popular and pre-sell a ton of coffee, it may take us a little extra time to fulfill orders after the roaster is installed.
Another challenge will be in getting the roaster set up quickly. We must install it and learn the best ways to get the same great flavor from our beans as our other roaster does, which will take a few batches. Or a bunch of batches. We are not really sure how many batches until the roaster arrives. However, in a pinch, we can run the other roaster many many hours and delay distribution.
Long term risks and challenges for the company include building our local market further so that we can continue to thrive, installing ourselves at a new, inspected location, and keeping the quality consistent as we grow. None of these would impact the delivery of the coffee from this project. We purposely are keeping things simple in order to de a great job for all our supporters.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
