Thanks for visiting! I'm Nicole Christman, a Vermont native and lifelong artist. In 2014, I submitted an entry for consideration in Magic Hat's "Labels for Libations" beer label design contest. It was selected by Magic Hat as a top-five finalist, then voted number one by the public at Burlington's annual Art Hop in September. Fast forward nine months, and my design "22-Ounce Beard" is gracing 22-ounce bombers (Vermont-exclusive), as well as 12-ounce bottles which are being sold nationwide as part of Magic Hat's Summer Scene variety pack! It's an exciting time in my art career, and I'm looking to expand my reach significantly.
A major part of the grand prize is a two-month exhibition at Magic Hat's Artifactory in South Burlington, Vermont, where I am displaying a handful of original paintings that comprise my newest (and best) work to date. The exhibition has provided amazing exposure, and in order to support that exposure, I am raising funds to produce a number of high quality digital prints and stickers that will make my creatures available to more people.
The works I create allow me to explore and develop the hybrid creatures whose lives in my mind have long existed. In recent years I have noticed my increasing attraction to surrealism and anthropomorphism, so much of my art portrays a physical connection between human and nonhuman life forms or objects, a scenario that is, for me, simultaneously pleasing and eerie. Inspired by dreams, I often manipulate the form of the human head and juxtapose it with the body of a nonhuman entity in order to evoke feelings of wonder and mystery. I also seek elegance through shape and line, a characteristic that sometimes contradicts the unnatural subject matter of the piece. I am most satisfied by the surreal and the abnormally sensuous.
I'll keep this short. In the years I've been making art, I've never had the opportunity (funds) to produce professional digital prints or art stickers to share with the awesome people who enjoy my work. (Note: Although they're not listed as Rewards, we're looking into producing "skins" for smartphone and laptops, so keep that in mind.) This project is attempting to make that happen. The rewards for pledging are seriously high value, so I hope you'll consider becoming a backer! Thanks!
Risks and challenges
We'll want to make sure that the prints and stickers we're awarding are of the highest quality possible, so we'll do our best to produce beautiful images to support that. There are inherent challenges in accomplishing that, but we're confident we can make it happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
