look I drew you a whale calendar!
The intention of this Kickstarter is to fund the creation of the calendar through the collection of pre-orders. After last years Baseball Calendar, I wanted to create a similar project but with a very different subject matter also near and dear to me: whales.
The whale, the spirit of the deep: carriers of wisdom and history. Their vastness is not unlike that of the ocean itself. Forever detached from our ancient past, can the whale sense the human ego and its longing to reconnect? In an attempt to reflect this detachment, like a dream, the whale in all its forms has been a great source of inspiration in my practice.
I often dream of whales and yet, I have never seen one. I feel as though they inform my work more so than are the subject of my work - as they are instinctively incorporated into so much of what I create. I believe that if everyone considered the ocean in this way - as an informant to our lives and livelihoods, rather than the subject of our exploits - we would appreciate her, and ourselves, so much more.
Here are some details of what the calendar will look like (more details to come as the project moves forward):
- Printing will be done on quality linen textured card stock from an environmentally friendly printshop based in Montreal.
- Wire-O binding
- Each calendar will come with a signed limited edition 5x7 print. The image that will printed has not been chosen yet.
- Calendar is approximately 13in x 8.5in
If you do not see a reward tier that suits what you want (for example, if you want to order more than 3 calendars), please message me and I will add a custom reward for you!
Very special thanks to Ryan Carley for providing the music clip for my little video.
Here are some of the drawings that will appear in the Calendar if funding goes through. These are also some of the originals up for grabs in the rewards section:
Risks and challenges
My goal is that you receive your calendar and print orders in time for the holidays, except where indicated in the rewards menu. I will work my hardest to avoid any setbacks and find solutions to anything that may prevent me from hitting this deadline..
I am using a printshop that I have had a great working relationship with for the past 6 years on a number of different projects. However, as is the case when working with third parties, unforeseen challenges can arise. Rest assured that I will keep funders informed of any changes throughout the process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
